Chapter 339: Chapter 205: Four Happiness Glutinous Rice Balls_3
Qin Huai was seventy percent full from dinner, so he dared not eat the big glutinous rice balls too quickly now. He took small bites, savoring the taste of the dumplings while pondering in his mind whether the shepherd’s purse filling could be altered.
When he searched for recipes online, the fillings for the vegetable and meat dumplings varied. Some had shepherd’s purse filling, while others had shredded radish filling. These are both very common vegetable fillings. Qin Huai thought he might try making the shredded radish filling tomorrow.
After finishing the vegetable and meat-filled ones, Qin Huai started on the purely meat-filled ones.
Delicious!
The dumplings were stuffed full with meat filling, without any redundant ingredients, emphasizing a satisfying meatiness. Meat is the king.
This is the taste of the most ordinary yet delicious meat-filled snacks.
Qin Luo is sure to fall in love with this meat-filled dumpling, for no reason other than the fact that it’s loaded with meat.
By the time Qin Huai finished the fresh meat-filled dumplings, Ouyang had just managed to swallow the sesame-filled ones, taking a few sips of the dumpling soup before he could speak:
"Delicious."
"But it’s too hot, almost burnt my mouth."
"Who told you to eat so quickly? If you were eating the red bean filling, it’s even hotter. Haven’t you heard that famous joke? Eating a red bean paste bun burns all the way to the back of your head."
Having finished two savory-filled dumplings, Qin Huai knew what he was doing. Sweet fillings were his forte after all, and he had personally cooked the red bean paste and sesame fillings some time ago, so they were bound to be perfect.
"Finish the rest, I’m going to take some dumplings next door." Qin Huai stood up and went to the kitchen to get a bowl.
Ouyang continued munching on the red bean paste-filled ones.
Qin Huai carried two bowls of Four Happiness glutinous rice and rang the doorbell next door.
"Coming, who is it?"
The door was opened by Gong Baozhu. Inside the house was heated, so she was wearing a thin garment. Her clothes seemed slightly wrinkled, as if she had been working.
"Master Qin!" Gong Baozhu exclaimed in surprise, and upon seeing the bowls Qin Huai was holding, she cried out directly, "Four Happiness glutinous rice! It’s been ages since I had this!"
Gong Baozhu hurriedly fetched slippers for Qin Huai, welcoming him in.
"Master Qin is here, Old Gong, stop looking for that darn tea leaf in the room, Master Qin is here for a visit." Guo Mingzhu called from the kitchen doorway, "Master Qin, would you like some juice? I just happen to be making juice."
Gong Liang quickly exited the room, telling his daughter, "Baozhu, check that upper cupboard again. I distinctly remember having a can of mountain cloud mist tea."
Gong Baozhu was already fixated on the Four Happiness glutinous rice, "Dad, let’s not search for it today. Maybe you left it at some other place and forgot to take it. We’ll ask Brother to find it tomorrow."
"The dumplings will go cold if not eaten now."
Only then did Gong Liang notice the Four Happiness dumplings.
He was almost moved to tears.
He just mentioned to Qin Huai at noon how he wanted to eat Four Happiness glutinous rice balls, and Qin Huai made them that very evening!
Furthermore, he made them after working overtime!
So touched, he feels like he wants to buy something for the neighbors’ house immediately.
Zheng Da really doesn’t know how to get things done. Qin Huai lives alone but rents a two-bedroom apartment without thinking of renting a bigger place.
If he rented a detached villa, preferably with a garden, wouldn’t he have more things he could buy?
"Mr. Gong, I happened to have some free time today, so I made Four Happiness dumplings after coming back. Could you please try them and see if they’re authentic or if there are any problems? It’s my first time making them, and I don’t have much experience."
"No problem, no problem, such nice-looking dumplings can’t have any issues." Gong Baozhu couldn’t wait to grab a spoon from the kitchen and scooped up a shepherd’s purse dumpling, sending it into her mouth.
One bite.
Gong Baozhu wore a satisfied expression.
"Mm~ Having Uncle Huang’s meal at noon and Master Qin’s Four Happiness dumplings in the evening, if I could eat like this every day, that’d be wonderful."
Guo Mingzhu stood at the kitchen door, helplessly looking at her daughter with no ambition, shaking her head and smiling, "You have hardly any ambition at all, not as much as your father. Back in the day, your father’s ultimate dream was to eat crab dumplings for a month and then another month of double crab buns; you’re satisfied just over a Four Happiness dumpling."
"Mom, it’s different, it’s delicious!" Gong Baozhu said earnestly, "Master Qin’s Four Happiness dumplings are super delicious!"
With that, Gong Baozhu stuffed the remaining half of the Four Happiness dumpling into her mouth in one bite and then went to scoop a shepherd’s purse dumpling from the other bowl.
"Dad, anyway, you don’t like shepherd’s purse filling, and Mom doesn’t either. I’ll help you finish them!" Gong Baozhu said indistinctly.
Qin Huai instantly caught the main point, looking at Gong Liang, "Mr. Gong, you don’t eat shepherd’s purse?"
Gong Liang nodded, "Ate too much of it when I was young. Sometimes during New Year’s, our family would follow the Northern habit of eating dumplings, and seeing shepherd’s purse dumplings made me want to cry."
Qin Huai nodded, "Then that’s my oversight, forgot to ask if you had any dietary restrictions. There are also shredded radish fillings in the Four Happiness dumplings. I’ll make shredded radish fillings tomorrow."
"My dad doesn’t like shredded radish fillings either," Gong Baozhu quickly answered, "He just loves that mixed fruit filling, which no one makes nowadays."
"Mixed fruit filling?" Qin Huai thought for a moment, recalling related information, "A mixture of various nuts and dried fruits, with sweet fillings like coconut shreds and sesame, usually used for mooncake fillings?"
Gong Baozhu wasn’t very sure. She swallowed the dumplings in her mouth, "Maybe, I don’t know exactly how it’s made. Nowadays, you can’t even buy mixed fruit dumplings since people don’t like them."
"They just don’t know how to make it," Gong Liang said. "Back then, Master Jing’s mixed fruit-filled dumplings were the best!"
