Chapter 281: Chapter 185: The Birth of the Scroll King

"Do we still have any Three Meat Buns left?"

"Youyou, how much longer until the next batch of Three Meat Buns is ready?"

"Are all the steamers in use?"

"Xiao Huang, post another announcement in the group for merged orders that we haven’t accepted any merged orders since 45 minutes ago. Today’s orders for Three Meat Buns have exploded, and we don’t have the manpower for deliveries. Also, emphasize that Three Meat Buns are only sold until 1:30 PM, not a minute longer!"

"Hello, this is Huang Xi, the head of Yunzhong Restaurant. Oh, the ingredients have arrived? Great, your timing couldn’t be better. I’ll send someone out to collect them right away."

"Xiao Huang, Xiao Chu, find two more people who can’t make buns to go outside and receive the deliveries, then change clothes and help out in the kitchen with processing the ingredients. Has Xiao Liu returned? I remember she’s good at making buns."

"She said she’s just two subway stops away."

"Alright, everyone, you’ve all worked hard today. Let’s get to it and don’t falter in your part. Master Qin said everyone working their regular shifts gets double pay, and those coming back from break get triple pay. Once Master Qin returns to Gusu, we’ll take a day off to relax at a hot spring as a team building event."

"..."

Under Huang Xi’s arrangement, Yunzhong Restaurant, which could have otherwise been overwhelmed and chaotic, smoothly prepared and served meals. Inside and outside the restaurant, there were long lines, with people queuing for buns all the way from inside the restaurant to the roadside, stretching out of sight.

In the queue, there were old men and women with gray hair, seemingly healthy older folk, the boss of the convenience store across the street, office workers who took a half-hour leave to buy buns early, passersby who didn’t even know what everyone was queuing for but joined out of idleness, and delivery riders on important errands.

When the demand for Three Meat Buns first exploded, Qin Huai didn’t expect it, and Huang Xi, lacking experience, imposed purchase limits only on the first batch of buns, with no limits thereafter.

This unlimited purchase policy favored the orthopedic, neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics, cardiology, and emergency departments, the inpatient unit, the security guards at the hospital, and delivery riders who returned loaded, only to receive new orders before they could finish the current ones, prompting Yunzhong Restaurant to reinstate a limit of 5 buns per person.

The delivery riders accepted this well, notifying the orderers, who were used to this from previous limits on Dried Tangerine Peel Tea, to cancel and place new orders.

This led to a genuine explosion in delivery orders for Yunzhong Restaurant.

By 11:30, at least half of those in line were delivery riders in yellow and blue uniforms.

But this was just the beginning of the real surge in orders.

This is because office workers in the nearby office buildings typically finish work at 12 or even 12:30 PM, with lunch breaks determined by their companies’ benevolence. Some breaks are as short as an hour, others as long as an hour and a half, and some even as short as 40 minutes — those office workers are normally the main lunch and dinner patrons of Yunzhong Restaurant.

It can be said that, had it not been for Huang Xi’s excellent coordination, allocating all available kitchen helpers and waitstaff adept at making buns to assist Qin Huai in the kitchen, requesting double pay for the day from Qin Huai to bring back employees on their day off, and preemptively contacting suppliers for a rushed delivery of more Three Meat Bun ingredients, Yunzhong Restaurant would’ve been in utter chaos today.

These were only things that Qin Huai knew Huang Xi had done.

At the center of the storm, Qin Huai worked frantically yet without pressure: Hiring Huang Xi back then truly felt like striking gold!

From his long experience at Huang Ji, Qin Huai learned that the best management lesson is that professionals should handle professional tasks.

He is a chef and is only responsible for making snacks.

Huang Xi is the head of Yunzhong Restaurant, and all mundane, trivial matters should be entrusted to Huang Xi without worry.

It was the same at Huang Ji: chefs managed the kitchen, and the head managed the hall. The only one lacking in professional ability yet persistently overreaching was Huang An Yao. But it’s not entirely his fault; as the Young Master, without the ability to cook, he needed to involve himself in some management tasks to maintain his stature.

Forcing the Young Master to participate in management led to poorly crafted marketing strategies, failure to secure the best deals from suppliers, and even buying locust flower honey inferior to what Grandma Ding could procure.

Sometimes, Qin Huai deeply felt that Huang An Yao was not suited to be a Young Master; he was more suited to be Xu Cheng — enjoying wealth, indulging in food, and writing food critiques daily.

Although Huang An Yao couldn’t cook, he did have a knack for tasting, eloquently discussing cuisine with one set of expertise after another.

Huang Xi, being a competent head, ensured that Qin Huai was completely at ease leaving all matters aside from making snacks to her. Even though the restaurant and its surroundings were already crowded and bustling, Qin Huai remained composed, coordinating all helpers in the kitchen efficiently, and churning out meals in bulk.

Master Qin Huai worked calmly.

The helpers, however, were anything but calm.

Helper No.1, Qin Congwen, and Helper No.2, Zhao Rong, watching Qin Huai’s serene expression and skillful actions, felt pained to tears.

Qin Congwen, mixing the filling frantically with sweat beading on his forehead from his strenuous efforts, looked at Zhao Rong, who was wrapping buns so fast it seemed like a blur, and said with heartfelt pain: "Our Huaihui must have suffered so much in Gusu over this one month or more!"
