Chapter 69: Chapter 69 How did you start talking nonsense?
Outside the hospital room.
San Fang pushed Fu Yanhe to the door of the hospital room, which was slightly ajar, leaving only a narrow gap.
When Fu Yanhe arrived, he overheard Ji Qian’s voice from inside.
"I have something to tell you."
San Fang instinctively went to push the door open, but Fu Yanhe raised his hand to stop him.
Sitting in the wheelchair, he peered through the gap in the door, his eyes squinting expressionlessly, making it impossible to discern what he was thinking.
Inside the hospital room.
Unaware, Shen Yanhe put down her spoon and looked intently at Ji Qian, indicating that she was listening.
Under her gaze, Ji Qian’s heart pounded nervously. He clenched his fists and gazed earnestly at Shen Yanhe, beginning solemnly, "I..."
"I like you."
Shen Yanhe froze instantly, her spoon clattering back into the thermos, as if she had misheard.
She had never expected Ji Qian to suddenly confess his feelings for her.
In her heart, she had always seen Ji Qian as a friend.
Her expression complicated, her lips parted: "I..."
Ji Qian, fearing her rejection, quickly interrupted her, "Don’t speak yet. Please let me finish."
"Actually, I’ve liked you since high school, but you were always too busy to come to school, and I never found the opportunity to express my feelings."
"Originally, I wanted to wait until after the college entrance exams to ask you out and confess properly, but you didn’t show up for the exams. You didn’t respond to my messages either. I thought I might never see you again."
With a tender smile on his face, Ji Qian gazed affectionately at Shen Yanhe, "I didn’t expect that we would meet again, so this time, I don’t want to miss my chance with you again."
He had wanted to say these things to Shen Yanhe for a long time but had never found the right opportunity.
After their last visit to the bar, he hadn’t found another opportunity to see her.
Now, he could finally speak his heart.
Shen Yanhe had quietly listened to Ji Qian throughout, quietly and earnestly, before looking up at him and saying solemnly, "Ji Qian, thank you for liking me."
Her delicate and fair face showed a touch of apology: "But I’m sorry, I don’t feel the same. And as I told you before, I am married."
Shen Yanhe did not reciprocate Ji Qian’s feelings and could not respond to his affection; however, she did not lead him on but rejected him clearly.
If she had known Ji Qian liked her, adored her secretly, she wouldn’t have touched today’s porridge.
"Really, I am very sorry."
Even though Ji Qian had mentally prepared himself, hearing her acknowledge her marriage still made his heart tremble uncontrollably with sorrow.
He forced a quick smile: "There’s nothing to be sorry about."
It was just his timing that was off.
Shen Yanhe looked at him apologetically, not saying a word.
Ji Qian opened his mouth, then closed it. His rational mind told him he should politely let go and act as if nothing had happened, so he could remain friends with Shen Yanhe.
But his emotions told him he wasn’t ready to give up.
With a painful heart, Ji Qian clenched his fists, looking at Shen Yanhe, his face twisting into a smile more pained than crying, and finally asked her, "Your husband... is Fu Yanhe, right? Does he treat you well?"
"If he doesn’t treat you well... you and him... would you consider divorcing him?"
The impulsive words Ji Qian had not been able to utter were cut off when he heard Shen Yanhe say, "It’s him, my husband and I are very happy, and he treats me well."
Ji Qian felt bitterness enveloping his heart, yet he maintained an appropriate smile on his face, "That’s good, whether you like me or not, I still hope you can be happy."
"Yanhe, can we still be friends?"
Shen Yanhe smiled gracefully, "Of course, we’ve always been friends."
Just as she finished speaking, the hospital room door was pushed open from the outside; San Fang wheeled Fu Yanhe into the room, and the two inside looked up.
The man in the wheelchair was still dressed in a perfectly tailored, crisp suit, exuding a noble and elegant demeanor, his gaze at Ji Qian was light, carrying a hint of intimidation that was hard to face directly.
Ji Qian calmly looked at Fu Yanhe, nodding slightly and politely greeting him, "Young Master Fu."
Shen Yanhe awkwardly fiddled with the bedsheet on the bed, "Why did you come so early?"
It was unclear how long Fu Yanhe had been there, had he heard what Ji Qian just said?
"What?" Fu Yanhe said, raising an eyebrow at Shen Yanhe with a hint of sarcasm, "Was it an inopportune time for me to come, disturbing the lady and her ’friend’s’ private meeting?"
Shen Yanhe: "..."
This familiar sarcastic tone, he must have heard Ji Qian’s confession to her.
Ji Qian heard the tone of Fu Yanhe’s voice, frowned, and was about to speak when Fu Yanhe suddenly looked at him and said casually, "Years ago, when I visited the Ji Family and saw you, you were just a little boy. In the blink of an eye, you’ve grown up so much."
His tone was light, yet it involuntarily made Ji Qian tense up.
Fu Yanhe looked at him and smiled slightly, his words carrying a deep meaning, "Now you, you should know better, understanding what things you should touch and what you shouldn’t, right?"
Ji Qian’s pupils shrank slightly, his hand at his side clenched into a fist forcefully.
He realized that Fu Yanhe was warning him.
Warning him not to touch Shen Yanhe.
Otherwise, he would be responsible for the consequences.
"Alright, Yanhe and I have some things to discuss, San Fang, please escort him out." Fu Yanhe commanded casually.
San Fang opened the hospital room door and made a gesture of invitation, "Young Master Ji, please."
Ji Qian stiffly got up, silently packed up the thermos, and left the room reluctantly, glancing back every few steps.
After he left, Shen Yanhe, who had been silent, rubbed her temples with a helpless expression and said, "Why did you scare him? You already heard what I just said to him. There’s nothing between us, I only consider him a friend."
"Friend?" Fu Yanhe’s dark eyes fixed on Shen Yanhe, scoffing, "I doubt that."
Shen Yanhe was startled.
Fu Yanhe continued, "He’s more handsome than me, has a better figure than me, is able-bodied, and he’s exactly what girls these days love, a fresh young face. Facing such a handsome guy’s confession, how could you not be moved?"
The more Fu Yanhe spoke, the more upset he felt, becoming angry and anxious. He coldly gazed at her, "But, Shen Yanhe, don’t forget that you are my wife now."
"Although I don’t like you, you can’t cheat or betray me by making me wear a green hat, you understand?"
When Fu Yanhe had just heard Ji Qian expressing his feelings to Shen Yanhe from outside the door, he felt panicked, but more so a sense of betrayal.
That’s why he couldn’t help coming in to interrupt Shen Yanhe and Ji Qian’s interaction.
Shen Yanhe gave him an exasperated look, waved him over.
Fu Yanhe grimaced, seemingly reluctant, yet he maneuvered his wheelchair to the bedside.
Before he could even speak, Shen Yanhe raised her hand to his forehead, mumbling, "Strange, you’re not feverish. Could the poison be acting up again? Otherwise, why would you start talking nonsense?"
Fu Yanhe’s face showed visible annoyance as he couldn’t help but grab her wrist and lower his voice, "Shen Yanhe!"
