Chapter 141: Chapter 141: She’s Like Sunshine
The air gradually became damp.
A drop of rain fell on Fu Yanhe’s pale hand.
One drop followed by another, the rain began to intensify.
Fu Yanhe slowed down the speed of the wheelchair more and more until he finally came to a complete stop.
He blended in perfectly with the night.
The sudden flash of lightning in the sky illuminated Fu Yanhe’s current appearance.
In the pouring rain, he lowered his gaze, the extremely dark pupils filled with thick mist, his pale eyelids tinged with a trace of red, hostility surging between his brows and eyes.
Like a wolf wounded in the rainy night, silently licking its wounds.
"Fu Yanhe!"
The clear female voice pierced through the darkness and reached his ears.
Fu Yanhe’s cold white and strong fingers resting on the armrest of the wheelchair twitched slightly.
He slowly raised his head and saw a light coming on not far away.
The light grew closer and closer.
Shen Yanhe, holding a rainbow umbrella and running toward him from the darkness ahead, another hand holding a cellphone with the flashlight turned on.
Fu Yanhe quietly watched the girl getting closer and closer.
He saw her like a burst of light, a patch of cloud, breaking through the darkness and gently landing in front of him.
As Shen Yanhe drew near and saw Fu Yanhe’s current state, a hint of astonishment surfaced on her delicate and soft little face.
The man in front of her was soaked through by the rain, his body wet and clingy, his slightly long hair sticking to his sickly pale skin, his lips devoid of any color, his pair of cold black eyes staring straight at her.
In the depths of those eyes lurked a dangerous expression.
His wretched appearance, as seen by Shen Yanhe, caused a sudden pain in her chest.
She frowned and stepped forward, tilting most of the umbrella toward him, looked down, and met Fu Yanhe’s gaze, unable to help but ask softly, "Yanhe, what happened?"
She could feel that Fu Yanhe was somewhat downcast at the moment.
Had something happened in the estate while she was away?
Why was Fu Yanhe alone in the rain, and where was Jiang Yun who should have been with him?
Could it be... that he and Jiang Yun had a confrontation?
Fu Yanhe’s Adam’s apple moved slightly. He didn’t answer her question but asked in a calm and slightly hoarse voice, "Why did you come back?"
Shen Yanhe pursed her lips.
She had planned to stay with Shen Huai in the hospital that evening.
But today was the day she was supposed to administer injections to Fu Yanhe’s legs, and she was worried about him, so she took a taxi back.
When she came back, she did not see him in his room, nor did she find Wu Fang and the others. After asking the maid, the maid said she saw him and Jiang Yun heading this way.
Worried about him, she hurriedly grabbed an umbrella and searched all the way here.
"You needed an injection on your legs today, I was concerned about you, so I came back first," she explained.
Walking behind Fu Yanhe, she held the umbrella in one hand and pushed his wheelchair forward with the other, "The rain is getting heavier, let’s go back to the room and take a bath, otherwise, you’ll catch a cold tomorrow."
Fu Yanhe nodded silently.
-
Inside the room.
Shen Yanhe personally prepared a bath with the right temperature for Fu Yanhe.
Then she helped get his dry clothes ready before pushing him in, "The water is ready, you can take a bath once you’re undressed."
Shen Yanhe pushed him next to the bathtub, looked down at Fu Yanhe, whose expression was faint and unreadable, and couldn’t help but ask, "Do you need help?"
Fu Yanhe shook his head, his thin pale hands unbuttoning his shirt, "No need, I can manage on my own, you can go out first."
Shen Yanhe nodded, turned around, and walked out, "Alright, just call me if you need anything."
Fu Yanhe: "Mhm."
After leaving the bathroom door, Shen Yanhe didn’t go far. She stood leaning against the wall by the door, worried that if Fu Yanhe needed her, she wouldn’t be able to come in time if she was too far away.
After thinking for a bit, Shen Yanhe took out her cellphone and sent a message to Wu Fang.
[Zi Yue]: Did anything happen in the estate today? Did Yanhe have a fight with Jiang Yun?
She had changed the name on her secondary WeChat account the last time.
She feared that Fu Yanhe was still concerned about learning of her revenge plan from her.
[Wu Fang (Note)]: Replying to the young madam, nothing happened in the estate today, and the young master didn’t have a fight with the madam. They just went out alone for a while and asked us not to follow.
Shen Yanhe’s hand clutching the phone tightened, her knuckles turning somewhat white, her gaze fixating on the word "alone."
Her intuition told her.
Fu Yanhe was in a bad mood today, and it had something to do with Jiang Yun.
It probably had to do with the last time she had told him there was poison in the egg custard Jiang Yun had made for him.
If it was related to that incident, not to mention Fu Yanhe, she herself couldn’t make sense of it.
How could Jiang Yun lay a poisonous hand on her own son?
Shen Yanhe felt a slight constriction in her chest, her expression somewhat cold.
The bathroom door next to her clicked open from the inside.
Shen Yanhe subconsciously glanced over.
The man who wheeled himself out had changed into dry clothes, and his washed hair had not been completely dried yet. Droplets of water fell from the tips of his hair, following the lines of his jaw to disappear at his collarbone.
When he saw Shen Yanhe leaning against the wall, a ripple spread across his calm eyes.
Shen Yanhe moved.
She stuffed her phone back into her pocket and walked towards him, "Come here, I’ll help you dry it, or you’ll get a headache tomorrow."
Fu Yanhe, "Hmm."
Shen Yanhe pushed Fu Yanhe to the edge of the bed, took out a hairdryer, plugged it in, switched it on, tested the temperature with her palm, and then started to blow-dry his hair.
Fu Yanhe’s eyes narrowed slightly, feeling the delicate and tender fingers gently weaving through his hair.
The cold darkness that enveloped him was gradually being swept away by these warm hands.
"Done."
Shen Yanhe turned off the hairdryer, reaching out to tousle his now-dry and soft hair.
Just as she put down the hairdryer, Fu Yanhe’s hand reached out.
The dry hand grasped her wrist, pulled her forward, and embraced her, burying his head in her soft abdomen and slightly tightening the hand around her slender waist.
As if he wanted to crush her into his embrace.
Shen Yanhe was somewhat short of breath, but she didn’t speak or struggle, just lowered her gaze to look at him, lifting her hand intermittently to caress his hair.
Quietly accompanying him.
After a long while.
Shen Yanhe felt the arm around her waist relax a bit; then she softly asked, "Are you okay?"
Fu Yanhe’s muffled voice came through, "Yeah."
He hadn’t told Shen Yanhe about the incident with Jiang Yun.
It would only add to her worries.
He would handle the Fu family’s affairs himself.
With Shen Yanhe there, Fu Yanhe’s sullen mood eased a lot.
He let go of her, took her hand that was caressing his hair, intertwined his fingers with hers, and brought them to his lips for a gentle kiss.
"Stay with me tonight."
His voice was light, with a hint of uncertainty.
Seeing Fu Yanhe reveal his vulnerability in front of her, so rarely seen, Shen Yanhe’s heart softened.
"Okay."
She thought of it as comforting a wounded big dog.
Shen Yanhe massaged Fu Yanhe’s legs as usual, gave him an acupuncture treatment, and then climbed into bed to lie down with him.
No sooner had she touched the bed than Fu Yanhe pulled her over and held her tight.
He clung to her like someone with a hunger for touch, kissing her restrainedly.
Only when Shen Yanhe drifted off to sleep did he start to calm down slightly.
In the quiet night, Fu Yanhe watched the girl in his arms, holding her even tighter.
She was his.
He thought.
No one could take her away from him.
-
The two slept side by side, dreamless through the night.
A night had passed, and Fu Yanhe had reverted to his usual unpredictable cool demeanor, as if the person who had held her tightly all of last night wasn’t him.
At breakfast, Shen Yanhe ran into Jiang Yun.
But as soon as Jiang Yun saw Fu Yanhe by her side, her expression changed slightly, and after greeting Shen Yanhe, she quickly left.
Who knew what had happened between her and Fu Yanhe last night.
"Are you going to see Shen Huai today?" Fu Yanhe poured her a glass of soy milk and asked.
