Chapter 101: Unforgettable Pain

Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Unforgettable Pain

Song Shiwei felt a pang of vulnerability when asked, and subconsciously concealed the truth, "No, I’m not sick, I just haven’t been sleeping well and came to the hospital to get some medicine."

Having said that, afraid that Shen Yanhe would ask more questions, she hurriedly said a few words and hung up the phone, holding it as she took a deep sigh of relief, her eyes reflecting a touch of complexity.

Actually, the reason she came to the hospital today was because her period was already a week late.

Previously, after Qi Yunqian got drunk, she inexplicably ended up in bed with him without taking precautions, and afterward, she was entangled by him and didn’t have the chance to buy any medication.

Fearing she might be pregnant, she secretly came for a check-up.

Now that all the tests had been done, she was just waiting for the results.

Song Shiwei sighed.

She hoped she wasn’t pregnant, for if she was... she wouldn’t keep the child.

She put away her phone, about to leave to retrieve her test results, when she heard heavy and rapid footsteps from behind.

Suddenly, she was forcefully embraced from behind by the newcomer, their rough breathing chaotically brushing her ear.

Song Shiwei was startled and was about to struggle when Qi Yunqian’s deep and low voice reached her, trembling slightly, "Shiwei, are you... pregnant?"

Song Shiwei’s heart skipped a beat.

Her expression changed dramatically as she forcefully broke free from Qi Yunqian’s embrace, turning to face him with a guarded look, "How did you know I was at the hospital?"

Her expression shifted, filled with aggression and questioning, "Did you have someone follow me?"

Qi Yunqian probably ran over, which caused wrinkles in his usually neat suit and his well-combed hair was somewhat disheveled.

At her accusation, he felt a sudden pain in his chest, his eyes red as he looked at her, his handsome face somewhat distorted, "You’ve misunderstood me, I didn’t have anyone follow you."

He explained, "This hospital is owned by a friend of mine. He saw you go into the gynecology department alone and take some tests, and then he told me, that’s how I found out."

The guarded look in her eyes scorched Qi Yunqian for a moment, causing a pang in his heart and bringing his regret to a peak.

He gazed deeply at Song Shiwei, his expression somber and slightly helpless, "Shiwei, you... you can’t think so badly of me."

"I won’t hurt you anymore."

He cherished and adored her too much to even keep up, so how could he possibly do something so disrespectful as to have someone follow her?

Song Shiwei knew she had misunderstood him, but what of it?

Wasn’t it often that he had misunderstood her in the past?

Qi Yunqian closely observed her expression, noting the wary look fading from her eyes, he knew her emotions weren’t as intense anymore.

His heart filled with bitterness, he tentatively took a step forward, carefully, with restrained anticipation, he asked her, "So, Shiwei, are you pregnant?"

Qi Yunqian admitted that he felt incredibly happy when Ji Haosheng told him the news.

Simultaneously, he also felt despicable.

Because as long as there was a child, Shiwei wouldn’t think about escaping from his side all the time.

Song Shiwei, seeing the look of anticipation on his face, felt both amused and saddened, with resentment and sorrow for him in her heart.

How could the person who couldn’t wait to get away from her, never wanting to see her again, now look forward to having a child with her?

It was just too laughable.

"I’m sorry to tell you," Song Shiwei took a deep breath, suppressing the surge of emotions within her, and looked down at him with a slightly raised chin, her brows and eyes showing a malicious glint, "I’m not pregnant."

"Even if I were, I wouldn’t keep the child."

Qi Yunqian couldn’t bear her words, closing his eyes involuntarily, his mood darkening and his pain deepening.

He finally understood the meaning of the phrase, "You reap what you sow."

After a long pause, he opened his eyes, his gaze sorrowful and grim as he looked at her, his voice somewhat hoarse, "Do you... hate me that much?"

"Yes," Song Shiwei didn’t hesitate for a second, nodding firmly. "I hate you."

She seemed puzzled that Qi Yunqian would ask such a question, tilting her head slightly as she looked at him, "Would you actually like someone who personally sent you to prison and destroyed your life?"

A pain as if pierced by an arrow exploded in Qi Yunqian’s heart, a gaping hole opening within, engulfing him in anguish so deep he could hardly breathe.

It was his fault.

All of it was his fault.

He had personally extinguished her love for him.

Now he truly had no right to expect her love.

The two looked at each other without a word, as Song Shiwei glanced down at the time on her phone.

It was time to get the report.

Without speaking to Qi Yunqian, she turned and walked away.

Qi Yunqian, unable to help himself, stepped forward and grabbed her wrist, his eyes red and stubborn as he watched her, "Shiwei, if..."

"If that incident hadn’t occurred, if I hadn’t made a mistake, if I had accepted your pursuit, would we be happy now?"

Song Shiwei paused in her steps, turning her head to look at him mercilessly as she slowly pried his fingers off her wrist, "There are no ifs."

Some things, once done, leave no opportunity for regret or holding on.

Let alone, the pain he caused her couldn’t simply be erased by a light and breezy apology, not even the strength of time could wipe it away.

It still lay there, at the core of your heart, causing occasional, faint throbs as the days go by, reminding you of the depth of injury you once felt.

Qi Yunqian’s fingers were slowly pulled apart by her, and as he opened his hand to try and catch her again, he grasped only an invisible wisp of air.

Song Shiwei continued to walk forward, never looking back.

Qi Yunqian stood there watching her slender figure recede, the regret in his heart peaking at that moment.

He gave a bitter smile.

He knew the harm he had caused Song Shiwei was great, but he also found himself unable to let go of her.

The only thing he could do was stay by her side in the days to come, making amends.

-

Shen Yanhe, having hung up the phone, was unaware of the entanglement between Song Shiwei and Qi Yunqian.

She had just finished drying her damp hair when a respectful knock sounded at the door, Wu Fang’s voice carrying through from the outside.

"Madam, the lady has returned. She says she’ll cook dinner herself tonight and wants to share a meal with you and the young master."

Shen Yanhe paused in running her fingers through her hair, replying, "I know."

After seven o’clock.

Shen Yanhe left her room and joined Fu Yanhe in heading to the dining room.

The table was already set with some dishes, with Fu Yu seated there early. Seeing her and Fu Yanhe arriving, she didn’t dare look at Fu Yanhe but rolled her eyes at Shen Yanhe.

She spoke in a mocking tone, "Some people are just naturally cold-hearted."

"Xia Ran is found and has been taken to the hospital, yet you don’t go see her. You can actually sit here so peacefully and eat."

Shen Yanhe blinked.

Was she talking about her?

Fu Yanhe looked at her with cold eyes, "If you like Xia Ran so much, why don’t I send you to the Xia Family, so you can be Xia Ran’s sister?"
