Chapter 306: Defrosting

I was a little worried when I didn’t hear a response and turned my head and saw that she was covered in a layer of ice. And I don’t think anything was going to break that.

She just so happened to be facing away from me, and I doubt that she could hear me. Not under all that Ice.

*Sigh*

In a somewhat defeated tone, I slumped my shoulders down and places my hands on the edge of the bed.

Which was a bad idea.

They were now frozen stuck to it. And in a panic, I ripped them off of the surface of this icy coffin, accidentally doing the same to both my ass and my hair.

My scalp was now bleeding profusely along with my hands and my ass.

I then watched hunched over as the torn strands of my hair froze in mid fall, which would have made a pretty piece of art if not for the fact that both Asty’s and my own life was on the line at this moment.

’How did it end up like this?’ I thought in distress as I let my [Hyper Regeneration] do its magic.

’Why is this happening? Did she awaken some sort of secret hidden power or something?’ My mind tried to think of a reason as to why this was happening in the first place, why Asty had such power.

Sure she had an affinity for it, but it’s not like it was powerful enough to even combat literal [Hell Fire].

Yet here she was. Sealed inside of a tomb of her own design with a power that likely isn’t hers.

For about a minute, I didn’t move a muscle as I just let my flesh regenerate. My blood didn’t drip onto the floor as the moment it started to drip off of me, it burned because of the fire still covering my body.

’FUCK! When was the last time I felt such pain? I feel like it should be much worse than it looks, yet I feel fine apart from some mild twangs of pain here and there.’

Once my flesh had at least recovered to the point where I wasn’t bleeding, I got up straight and moved round to the other side of the bed, so that I would be in Asty’s vision.

Whether or not she would actually be able to see me, let alone hear me was another matter entirely.

’I hope I don’t have to force her to stop this somehow through Bloodline mandates or something.’ I really did not want to have to do that, as I imagine that in this state, it would cause extreme amounts of pain for all parties involved. Be it physical, mental or emotional.

I didn’t know what to do when I got to the other side though. I wasn’t able to break the ice. That much was clear when my body which was covered in hellish astral flames seemed ineffective and even failed to stop the ice from freezing me.

And I couldn’t think of anything else other than using my Bloodline to supress her power or something.

But I didn’t want to subject her to such pressure. She clearly wouldn’t be able to handle it and it may even kill her, which I want to avoid if at all possible.

However with nothing else coming to mind, I may have to do it.

Still, I wanted to try reaching out to her with words first. I was the only one who could do so. Nobody else could even touch the ice else they risk losing parts of their body.

I was barely even able to remain even slightly warm with all the fire that covered my body.

That was when I remembered that I had many talismans and arrays at my disposal...

’No, that wouldn’t work either, there’s too many for me to sort through and by the time I do find even one that might help, it’ll likely be too late.’

’DAMN IT!’

*BANG*

I slammed my fists on the side of the bed, which did cause some damage to the icy coffin, but my hands were already freezing over, so I had to once again rip them off, leaving more bloodied flesh on ice which instantly froze over.

And in pure frustration, I began to shout at her frozen form.

"What exactly is wrong with you!? I told you that I would come back with her, didn’t I?! Why the hell did you have to go and fucking do this to yourself!?" I threw my arms around as I hissed at her with my brows furrowed and my clenched my jaw.

"You gain nothing from doing this except the suffering of those you love! Ashtraz is out there, right now! And here you are wallowing in your pointless, bullshit despair!"

"You have no reason to be doing this! I said I would go out and get her! And I did! I was the only one who would and could do that! You think David would do such a thing? You think the city guard would listen? You think The Duchess would care?"

"Well they will now! You’re threatening the livelihood of the entire city with this stunt! You’re threatening to destroy what you love so dearly!"

"Do you think you will get away with it by killing yourself like this!? NO! You won’t! You have to get out of this now! Please! I don’t want to lose more people I care about..."

Despite being angry and shouting, my heart slowly became filled with despair at the thought of the lives of my friends being ended.

The mere thought filled me with dread on a level I never knew I could feel. And upon realising that I wasn’t angry and was just desperate to maintain what I have, I collapsed.

My fore arms fell upon the bed, as did some of my remaining hair. They both immediately began freezing over.

I lifted my sunken head up, which causing said hair to be torn from my head also, causing more bleeding on my scalp.

If not for the fire encompassing the entirety of my body, you would be able to see my bloodied face.

When I looked back at the frosty encasing that covered Asty’s body, I was sniffling and even crying a little.

Though you wouldn’t be able to tell that if not from the noises I was making.

When I looked up at her, I spoke once more.

"Please... Asty, snap out of this stupid farce... Please, just come back to us..." *Sniff* "We may not be from the same parents, but I still look to you as my little sister, so please, come back to me."

*Sob*

"And if not back to me, then please, let Ashtraz come and apologise at the very least. I don’t think she would be able to live if you die here now."

"I don’t want to lose my new family... Please... Come back to us Astryza..."

With each word, my head started to fall lower and lower, scraping against the icy spikes that were once my hair, feeling them scrape against the sides of my head and cutting my flesh even more.

And by the time I finished my plea, my forehead had fallen unto the icy bedding and began to freeze my face.

Despite the fact that my entire body was on fire, it seemed that the closer I was to Asty herself, the more powerful the freezing coldness of the ice itself.

But... That doesn’t make sense... My affinity for [Fire] is supposed to be [Supreme] right? Why is mere ice overpowering that?

This ice shouldn’t be that potent. Have I not been using the full extent of my power?

’No... I haven’t...’

Upon that realisation, I felt something within myself change. I could feel a power different to what I knew before within.

And I realised, that just like my Stats, with the sudden increase in my affinities, I could use a higher level of power than before.

When it came to giving myself more Stats, it’s not an exponential increase in power, it’s an additive increase. A strength of [1] will always be [1], and I would always be able to use that.

But if I were to increase it to say [10], then I could still use the strength of [1], it’s just that the limits of my strength had increased.

The same kind of logic applied to my affinities also, when it increased suddenly like it did, I could still use the same level of power as before with ease, but I could also use more on top of that.

And that’s why my training with Eric was going so smoothly, I wasn’t using my new full power.

But that was an issue for later. Now that I realised I had this power, my eyes flashed with an intense light that burned through the ice I was staring at.

And the fire covering my body started to melt the ice that was freezing over me.
