Chapter 295: Coiled Moon festival. Night 3. Festivals End

As for why I decided to sneak up onto the roof? Well, for starters, no one is allowed up here because it’s dangerous, which is why there’s nowhere for anyone to get up here.

But since nobody was around to watch us, I used [Spatial Shift] to teleport myself up there. I of course made sure to check my surroundings first just in case. Then I decided to just go to my room and teleport myself above.

I did that and now I was on top of the roof, where nobody could see me, and where I could be left alone to do as I pleased.

And what I wanted to do was just lie here and think.

’So much has happened over just the past couple of months alone.’

’I’ve gone through essentially two entire evolution processes practically. The first when I awakened my bloodline, and the second when I received that gods blessing.’

’That alone would be enough for anyone in one lifetime, but I’ve received so much more than just that.’

’I now have friends who will support me emotionally, teachers who look out from me, even the Guild to some extent.’

’All these people who wish to support me in any way they can.’

’I’m lucky to have such people surrounding me.’ I thought with a warm smile.

I may be strong physically and even magically, but my mind has always felt broken, ever since I was young.

Ever since my mother’s death, I’ve felt broken. My father leaving didn’t exactly help either, but I knew he would always be watching over me, which did make me feel better to some degree.

But it never felt like enough. Nothing ever really has. My strength means nothing to me if it’s not used for something personal and intimate. Something like protecting what I care about.

’Something like my friends... No, my family.’

’Yes, they’re my family now.’ My smile grew wider as I finally thought about my situation properly.

I truly had a place I could call home. It had all I could ever ask for.

After decades of loneliness, I finally have some place to call home, with friends and family alike. And their opinions are the only thing that I care about. The only thing I should care about.

’I guess... I don’t have a real reason to hide my strength if I want to do that... I still have my secrets that I want to keep hidden though, like my twin Bloodlines and my [Space] affinity.’

I didn’t realise it, but in all that time that I had to let my mind run amok, it had already become evening.

’Wow... Time sure passed quickly. I guess it’s nearly time for the last part of the festival to happen then I guess.’

From what I had heard, the second part of this festival included receiving personal blessings from the Gods and Goddesses.

Where they would give us mortals a fraction of their power of whatever domain it is that they control. Which can be anything form physical strength, to magic, to beauty to even their skills.

I don’t expect to get one though. I’ve already technically received one anyways, so it’s not like I need another or anything.

But I was curious to see if anyone else from the city would get one, so I kept my gaze on the stars that started to form in the sky.

And these weren’t the regular constellations that you would see in the night sky.

No, these were the stars that represented the Gods themselves. They were making their personal appearance to bless someone.

The brighter the star shone, the more powerful the God.

There were a fair few dim stars, a few decently bright ones and not many that stood out amongst the crowd from what I could see.

And this scene could be seen anywhere throughout the Serpentine Empire, as it was a national event.

I wasn’t too sure how this worked from the Gods perspective, but I was curious to see the results nonetheless.

’Wonder if any of my friends will get one?’ I idly mused as I waited for it to get darker so that they could bestow their blessings upon us.

And soon enough, the sun had set completely, giving way to the moon, and so far, no blessings had come.

There were more stars though, as more and more gods gathered in the heavens above to decide if they would bless any of us or not.

And as I waited, my mind went back to wandering around and thinking back on what I was musing over earlier.

’Should I just stop caring about whether or not people know about my secrets? I mean, it probably... No, it WILL cause a humongous commotion, but should I care? I have the strength to deal with most things.’

’The only one’s who should be a threat to me are people like top ranking adventurers. I recon I could hold a candle to even Adamantium class adventurers. Sure, there are others but they like keeping to themselves. Kind of like the Illuminati...’

’I wonder if that has any correlation or not?’ I wondered as I connected some dots that might not even be related.

’Either way, I only have to care about those I care about. Why give a shit about what others feel towards me? If they can’t accept me for who I am, then why should I bother associating with them?’

’Damn. I think that play from yesterday really hit me hard.’ I didn’t realise it, but I felt more of a connection to that play than I had initially thought.

’Crazy... How such a simple tale can affect someone so deeply... There’s so much more to that tale than just simply the surface level story.’

’There’s a deep and emotional message that pierces the heart of anyone who can understand the plight of not being able to be accepted...’

’...’

I fear people finding out what and who I am because for one, it’s a huge fucking deal on both sides. And two, I don’t want my life as is to be ruined by how people treat me.

I’m not afraid of being found out, I’m afraid of being ostracised and put on a podium, being unable to just be a normal person. To be myself...

’I can’t be myself if everyone fears me, worships me, looks up to me like I’m the herald of the Gods or something. I don’t want to be an outcast again...’

’I don’t want to be alone again...’

*Sniff* *Sniff*

I started to cry as I finally realised the truth about my desires. I didn’t want to be some high and mighty individual. I didn’t want to be put on some grand throne or a become some kind of deity.

I just wanted to live a normal life, like everyone else.

’But... If anyone finds out the truth, and it spreads... Then my chances of that are gone...’

’I guess... At least I’ll have my friends...’ Despite the fact that they already know about one half of my Bloodline, I’d rather wait until Asty has grown up some more before telling her about the other.

I don’t think David will care, since he’s from another line of Serpentine entirely. And as for Ash... I just don’t think she gives a shit about much in general to be honest.

"Hehe..." I chuckled slightly at Ash’s carefree nature. ’Wish I could be as carefree as her.’

As my thoughts kept on wandering, it soon neared midnight, and around four beams of light had fallen in the city.

Such a low number isn’t unusual, since Gods don’t often choose to bless someone.

Two beams fell down upon the mixed races area, where all of the non-Serpentine were gathered. As for the other two, one fell in the Serpentar area and the other in the Lamia one.

And just as I thought that nothing else would happen in the last couple of minutes as the moon slowly ascended to its peak, another light appeared.

This light was obviously a star, but it was unlike any other. As it was actually twelve stars rotating in unison.

And then, out of nowhere, an aurora appeared.

Seven flickering, coloured lights waved and swirled around the twelve stars, maintaining a respectful distance between themselves and the stars.

Said stars then started to flicker, glowing brighter for just a moment before dimming down back to what they were before.

Then, they all began spinning in a circle, quickly becoming too fast to recognise as it started to look like a ring of light.

When it looked like it had reached its peak speeds, the seven coloured lights began to cover them up, taking on the form of a finger that felt like it was pointing at... Me?

And before I could think any further, the light from the stars gathered inside this aurora finger, and then fired down towards the city.

It seemed that it was specifically firing towards me.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!"
