A Serpent's Tale
Chapter 284: Returning to My Inheritance

Chapter 284: Returning to My Inheritance

Since I now had practically all the time in the world, I decided that I would now go round and explore the entirety of my Inheritance’s treasury.

I had the luxury to do so now after all.

The first thing I did was top up on Gold, taking just a couple of handfuls and being careful to not make it spill over again. Which it thankfully didn’t.

Once I’d done that, I was now left to explore the treasury freely, and without worry or restrictions.

I had no worries last time, but I was on a bit of a time frame since I had to cut it short. But now, I had nothing to worry about. I could spend the rest of week in here if I really wanted, but I wasn’t going to do that since that would be dumb.

What I was going to do is spend the rest of the first day in the treasury here, then, on the second day, go into the left set of rooms where I can learn all sorts of things for my Subclasses, or as it’s labelled here, ’Professions’.

But that was for tomorrow onwards, right now, I was looking through the treasury once more.

There were a lot of vases here. And I mean A LOT of vases. Almost all of the decorative artefacts seemed to be vases.

The only notable works of art that weren’t vases were some non-descript statues of Naga’s, of which there were several tens or even hundreds of in one section. Why? No idea.

Amongst these statues, there was a set of two pairs of identical statues that depicted the Goddess and my ancestor, Astraa. She must either have an immense ego, or want her appearance to be remembered.

Either way I left those statutes alone even if I could likely take them with me. I had no use for them.

The only other notable furnishings I could find were some paintings of Astraa, which just further cemented my idea of her having a big ego. There were also several empty frames off to the side as well.

Each frame was lined with what looked to be golden scales. Not scales that were designed to look like gold, but real, actual golden scales.

And the last thing was some furniture.

Said furniture had a grand design to it, being laden with golden and silver inlets and patterns depicting ancient serpentine.

There were in total, three beds, twelve drawers, five wardrobes, two large dining tables as well as several sets of fancy seating like chaises and sofa’s.

Even then, all this other furniture and decorations only made up at most fifteen percent of the decor. The remaining lot was just vases.

Seriously, there were so many vases of all shapes and sizes that there were literal stacks of them in pyramids that you would always be able to see one no matter where in the treasury you were. That was how many there were.

Eventually though, I found myself in an area which seemed useful for what I’d be doing next.

A bunch of randomly assorted bits of equipment, all of which could be used in many different professions.

From cauldrons in alchemy, to hammers and tongs for forging, and even quills for enchanting, I think? Maybe other things, maybe not. I also saw paintbrushes and paint, chisels and hammers, and many more various tools.

I obviously took all of the smithing tools and put them in the same layer as my weapons since that seemed fitting.

But as for everything else, I wasn’t sure what to do with them. Like, was I ever going to end up doing anything with them?

I guess I’ll just leave it all here and come back in case I ever need them and change my profession. Nothing’s stopping me from doing so after all.

Moving past this area, I found myself in front of a grand set of doors.

On the doors was a depiction of the ancient form of a serpent hissing up at some billowing and thundering clouds.

The art on this door alone was probably the most impressive piece of art within this inheritance that I’ve ever seen.

It was so lifelike, so realistic that I almost thought it was real, but it turned out to just be my eyes playing tricks on me.

still, it was a marvellous piece of work, with a stunning backdrop that depicted the heavens and the world, conveying the image of a little serpent rising up from the smallest of positions, and ascending to the heavens into godhood.

This mural told a story. A story that I knew nothing of, yet could somehow instinctually understand deep within my roots, resonating with my very being.

Obviously this door led to the heart of the treasury, the heart of this inheritance, but I wasn’t quite ready for it.

Just like with my main Class, I felt something gnawing away at the back of my mind in regards to this, in the same manner as well. So, I ignored it, understanding that I wasn’t ready.

That, and I also tried and failed to enter. It seems like there are some prerequisites to entering despite this entire inheritance belonging to me.

And I was okay with that. I have more than enough out here already that I could probably go for forever without ever going in there.

Moving away from there, I found myself in another area filled with resources of all kinds. All of which were going to stay here in case I ever needed them, or in the case I have children and want to give it to them.

The latter statement is just an excuse so that I can justify keeping half of this crap, seeing as I’m likely to never use any of it.

Still, I pilfered through it for anything that I might find useful and found a cold, snowy flower.

Literally, it was so cold that it was making snow out of thin air. I wasn’t even that close yet I could feel it from like five metres away.

There were several other cold attributed behind it, including an [Ice] attributed Mana Core.

All of these items made me think about Ashtraz, and her affinity for [Ice].

’Should I bring one of these back for her? No, if I do, people will start asking questions I don’t want to answer.’

I really wanted to get her something from this selection of items, but I also didn’t want people to question where I got them, since there was no way an item like this would be sold anywhere but an auction. Not in the desert that is.

So, despite my desire not to do so, I left these items alone and continued wandering.

In the end, there were only a few other things that I found and actually took. One of them being this item which I think was called a ’Sarcophagus’ which was weird.

Because it not only was in the shape of a vase, but the image of a sarcophagus, but it was barely bigger than my hand.

I had no idea what it was, what it did or why it was even in here, but it was something that called out to me, so I took it.

The only other thing that interested me, which I wasn’t expecting to find, were artefacts of both holy and unholy origins. Both Angelic and Demonic items were on display.

And right next to one another at that.

Why? I have no idea. How? Also no idea. I would’ve thought that by now, one of them would’ve overtaken the other or something but no, they were sitting there in perfect harmony.

Then I realised, both the areas of not only these items covered, but also all of the other items and the pedestals they sat upon were enchanted to contain their power.

That made me super interested in this kind of thing, and even made me want to do enchanting as my profession instead of smithing.

Still no idea why I chose that.

I went back to the area with all of the tools and such and took everything I thought I might need for enchanting before heading back to the holy and unholy items.

Why I didn’t take the unholy items first? I don’t know, not that it matters anyways.

Of the items in front of me, I was of course only going to take from the Unholy one’s, since the Holy one’s would clash with my Demonic Bloodline.

In the end, after some deliberation, I decided to take what was essentially just a Mana Core filled with pure demonic power, not tied to any sub-element.

I put that into my storage space along with the other two orbs, keeping everything as organised as possible.

Once that was done, I spent the rest of the day filtering through the rest of the stuff but found nothing of interest.

When I finished, I left the treasury and camped in the middle room because I was tired, but not before eating some food that I had stored because I knew that I would be staying here for a few days.
