Chapter 247: My New Teacher

"We can start with what skills you have. Don’t be alarmed, I know a lot about you, or more rather, more about your future self, which is more than likely to be different now."

"O-Okay... You seem to know a lot. Is there a specific set of skills that you want to know about?"

Everything was moving so quickly that I had no idea how to process all of this. So, I’m just going to go with the flow and accept what’s happening without questioning.

"Mainly your [Space] attributed skills, and anything else you think might help you with your training or just general usage of this magic."

"Uh, lemme check real quick. I have [Astral Flames], [Mana Vision], [Minor Spatial Manipulation], [Spatial Barrier], [Spatial Shift] and [Spatial Storage]." I gave him the list of my current skills that I thought would be useful.

He took a deep breath before exhaling. "That’s a lot more skills than I thought you’d have. Though, I suppose it isn’t all THAT surprising. Anyways, onto your training. First thing is do you know how to use magic without activating them through your Soul Scroll?"

Not surprised he knows I have that. It’s not nearly as rare, plus he probably figured that my father gave it to me or something.

Regardless of how he knew, I answered his question, "Yes, my father taught me about that when I was little. In fact, he taught me how to use magic before granting me access to my Soul Scroll. He made sure to make sure that I always knew how to use all these powers without it."

"Good. You have a good father kid. Remember that. For now though, tell me, out of those skills, that you have, besides [Spatial Storage] because I KNOW that you use that, besides that one, how well experienced are you with the other skills?"

"Well, I’d say that the only other [Space] skill that I can use expertly is [Astral Flames]. But that’s only because I have such a high affinity for [Fire]." I answered a tad bashfully.

"And how high exactly IS your [Fire] affinity? If you don’t mind me asking." He asked inquisitively.

"It’s at [Apex] level." I answered honestly, trying to sound as humble as possible. Mainly because I never earned that high of an affinity. It was just given to me since birth I believe.

He just seemed to laugh at the fact, not in a mocking way, but in more of a ’whatever’ way, as if he didn’t care all that much about it.

"HAHA! As expected of someone like you! I’m not the least bit surprised at that! That makes sense though. Your mastery over all things [Fire] is extraordinary, instinctual even because of it."

Then he returned to tutoring me by asking, "Now, I take it that you haven’t used the other skills all that much if at all before today?"

"No, I haven’t. To be honest, I can’t even remember getting most of those skills." I responded rather meekly, since I don’t seem to remember much of anything regarding them.

"Well... You don’t need to worry about that right now. So, which skill would you like to learn about first?"

"Let’s see..." I looked over my skills once more and thought about which one I wanted to learn about first. "I think I’d like to learn more about [Minor Spatial Manipulation] since I don’t quite understand what it does or is supposed to do."

"It’s quite simple really. It allows you to manipulate the space around you. For example, you could move objects and those that are unable to peer deeper into it would think you’re using telepathy." He explained slowly and carefully, making sure that I understood before he continued his tutoring.

"On the other hand, it could even allow you to manipulate the skills of other people’s [Astromancy] spells." He mentioned.

"[Astromancy]?"

"Ah right. It’s the unified skill of all [Space] magic. Kind of like [Pyromancy], which I’m assuming you have, but with [Space] magic."

"Oh, I get it now. How exactly does one obtain these kinds of skills anyways? I can’t even remember how or when exactly I got [Pyromancy]."

"There are a few ways, and for some, it can take a long time, or a really short amount of time. The first being to simply learn the spells and keep improving, but that takes way too long, depending on the element and your natural affinity for it beforehand."

"The second, is to increase your affinity for the element itself, which typically comes in the aid of outside resources. You can increase it naturally through practicing, but doing that’s just retarded because it takes centuries for an improvement like that to happen, so most just resort to using resources with the affinity they’re looking for."

"Wait. You mean like the scale and the rock-like egg from the auction?"

"Yes like the- Wait what scale?"

"Umm... Were you not paying attention? It was sold off early on in the auction. They say it fell from the sky like a meteor or something."

"Huh..." The man looked at me with a questionable gaze, as if assessing if what I said was true or not. Then he shrugged it off, "Well, I wasn’t in a state to focus on anything else besides the rock at the time so it’s whatever."

"Back to your training. [Minor Spatial Manipulation] can be used to interrupt or alter another mages [Space] spells. For example, in that fight we just had, you could’ve used it to shift my teleportation, or move object like I explained earlier."

"Oh, right! I see, so that’s what it does."

"Wait, shouldn’t your Soul Scroll be able to explain all this to you anyways?" He suddenly questioned.

"Not in this case no. It just says that I can manipulate space to a small degree with a limit of about ten metres or so. And the rest of my skills are also rather vague as well."

"I see... Well, nothing wrong like learning the old-fashioned way. So, what spell would you like to learn next?"

And for the next couple of hours, he taught me the basics of the spells I had and how to best utilise them. I had asked if there were any other spells that I could maybe learn, but he said that what I had was already more than what a beginner could use.

Hell, he even said that my handling when he saw me use said spells was way beyond beginner level and reaching the peak of intermediate already.

By the end of my first day of training, I was rather tired because of the constant use of these spells was rather draining. They may not have taken much mana over those few hours, but I used them a lot, and ended up using over twenty percent of my mana.

"You did good kid. Keep this up and you’ll become stronger than even myself one day." He praised me with a thumbs up and a smile.

"Thank you teacher. Wait... What’s your name anyways?"

"Oh! Shit! Fuck! I forgot to introduce myself, how rude of me. My name is Eric Vondale, pleased to meet you your majesty." He panicked before regaining composure and introduced himself as he bowed to me.

"Please stop bowing, I’m not royalty." Quite frankly, I found it rather uncomfortable the way he was suddenly treating me.

"Haha! Forgive me, I know you don’t like being treated that way, but it was more of a show for your father. He’s always watching you, you know?"

"Yeah, I know. And, thank YOU teacher Eric, for tutoring me in the ways of [Space] magic." I returned with a bow myself with gratitude for the guidance that he was and will give me in the future.

"Ah, stop, you’re making me blush." He joked playfully to lighten the mood. "Right, we should probably establish a schedule for the next year or for when and where we should meet up to have your lessons."

"Right. Well, I’m likely to be enrolling into school next month so not any day between Terravyn and Mystara. So, on Florilith and Stellithar. Does that work for you?"

"Yes that’s fine, I understand that I can’t teach you every day, and you have your own life to live so you may live that. Shall we meet in the slums around noon each day?"

"Yes, that would be preferable. And, I assume that we’ll be taking lessons out here in the desert, yes?"

"Correct, teaching you in the city would be a hassle to keep it hidden. Anyways I should probably take you back to the city now so you can go back home. Also, last question before we go, when would you like to put this training routine into action?"

"I would say after next week, as that’s when I take my exam to enrol into the Institute. But, if it’s not asking too much, could I ask that we start next month?"

"Sure, that’s fine by me. Now, come her, I need to take you back."

I did as he asked and he placed his hands on my shoulder and teleported us back to the slums. Not in the same place where we met, just some random part of it where nobody was watching us.

After that I thanked him for the opportunity to be taught and said my goodbyes, heading off to leave the slums and go back home since it was getting a bit late.
