Chapter 238: The Others (1/2)

I spent the rest of the afternoon relearning a bunch of information, as well as some other general facts about things like how the workdays and weekend works to things like social standings and statuses name a few things.

But at some point, I heard laughter coming from down the hall. I closed the book I was reading and looked at the table before me and realised that it was stacked with a bunch of small books which were all about general world knowledge.

I then started to scramble around, trying to put as many of the books back into their original shelves. But, try as I might, I was never going to be able to put them all back in time before they came past. And my frantic actions only made them curious and get here faster.

And when they did come by and saw me frantically rushing about, back and forth between the table and the shelves.

I stopped moving as soon as they came by and saw what I was doing.

"Uhh... I’m guessing you’re new here?" One of them asked.

I was currently stood still with a bundle of books in my arms, nestled beneath my bare breasts.

"Yeah... I wanted to jog my memory since I’d forgotten a bunch of stuff and got lost in the books these past few hours..."

"Anddd... Why where you making such a ruckus just now?"

I opened my mouth to answer her but realised that I didn’t have a good answer to her question so I just went back to clearing up after myself as I tried to shrink into myself as best I could out of embarrassment.

I don’t even know why I acted so nervous and frantic. Why did I? It’s not like I have a reason to behave like that. Do I? I’m pretty sure I don’t.

’Oh god, they’re still staring at me. Please stop staring at me weirdly, it only makes this more awkward.’

I continued to put books back on their shelves as the girls at the entrance of the library continued to watch me for a few minutes. And thankfully they left shortly after and returned to whatever conversation they were having before.

I gave a sigh of relief once that happened and was just finishing up after myself when someone else came into the library.

This person was a Lamia, an actual one. And she was hugging a set of books tight to her chest and was wearing a pair of glasses as well, which was weird.

The moment she saw me, she immediately stiffened up, just like I did just now.

"Uh... Hi?" I decided to start of the conversation.

"H-H-Hi..." She replied.

"..."

There was an awkward silence between us, so I just went back to putting the last of the books that I read back onto their shelves.

This prompted the other girl to go to the other side of the library and read the books that she held. Once I was done, I left silently because I had no reason to engage with that girl.

When I left, I went to the dining hall since it was getting late and I was rather hungry.

And I was glad to see that it was indeed open, with several serpentine already eating away and chatting with their friends.

I went over to the buffet and grabbed a large plate. There were also a small and medium sized plate, but there weren’t many of those compared to the larger one’s which had three times as many compared to the two smaller options combined.

Anyways, I grabbed my large plate and began stuffing it with food. There were several forms meats ranging from, duck to beef, pork and chicken. I took several portions of them and barely scratched the surface of how much there was.

Then there was a small section for eggs in different varieties, ranging from raw to scrambled and even fried. Next to them there was several vegetables so I took a small pile of most of them.

At this point I had a decent portion of food on my plate, but I could still stack more onto it in a pyramid like fashion, so I moved onto the next sections and took even more types of foods, from pastas to pastries, I just took whatever I fancied.

And thankfully for me, everything was labelled so I didn’t have to worry about choosing something I didn’t want.

When I was done, I turned around and found that everyone was now looking at me in shock or surprise. I wasn’t quite sure which one everyone was looking at me with so I’m just going to assume it’s both.

I went and found a seat off in the back of the dining hall so that I could eat in peace, but the silence that pervaded the room was unsettling.

Everyone was just sitting there, not eating, not talking, only staring at me with the same expressions on their faces.

I just shrunk into my shoulders and continued eating in awkward silence.

I had just finished the extra layer when I noticed that the amount of people in the room had almost doubled and I now had a crowd not quite surrounding me, but still encircling me and just watching me eat.

It got to the point where I suddenly burst and shouted, "WHAT?! What do you all want from me?!"

They seemed to ignore my outburst and just continued staring at me. They seemed entranced by something for some reason.

It can’t be me, right? Why would they be entranced by me? What about me is that enticing?

At this point I was too creeped out and had lost my appetite so I got up and started to leave the dining hall as this was making me uncomfortable.

I was about to dump what was left on my plate, which was still all the initial food that I got such as the meats and veg, but before I could even get close to the bin, I heard a sudden shriek of everyone that was watching me shout.

"NOOOO!!!"

It scared me so much that I almost dropped my plate from the shock.

I turned around and stared at everyone who was reaching out to me in fear. I blinked in confusion. Just what did they want from me?

"What do you all want from me?" I screamed with confusion, gripping my plate tightly. And this time, they finally listened to what I had to say.

One of the girls then spoke up and explained their collectively weird actions.

"We-We’ve never seen someone take so much before, a-and you’re actually eating it. W-We were just so enamoured by the sight that we were entranced by it."

I then told them how their actions made me feel. "Well it’s creepy and weird, never do it again. I still feel uncomfortable with all of you looking at me. And I’ve lost my appetite too, so I’m not eating anymore."

"W-Wait! Can you not toss all that away?" Another girl asked frantically.

I turned to look at her and retorted in a somewhat sarcastic fashion, "Are you gonna eat all this then?"

She shrunk back upon hearing my response, becoming timid in the face of my retort. But then someone else stepped up to the challenge.

"I’ll do it." She exclaimed bravely.

"Ok." I then proceeded to hand her my plate and then went to leave. But I was stopped by more girls who got in my way, preventing me from leaving.

"What now?" I asked in an annoyed tone.

"You can’t leave now, we’ve got business with you." On of them commanded in a haughty tone.

’Oh gods, its one of these bitches. I remember my father teaching me about tropes and I’ve finally encountered one. How am I meant to deal with it again?’

"Hey! Listen when the missus is talking!" One of the cronies yelled, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Oh sorry, am I supposed to care about some attention seeking whore?"

*GASP!!!*

Everyone within earshot heard me say that and audibly gasped in shock. Guess this bitch is the "queen" of the orphans I guess.

"HOW DARE YOU-" One of her cronies came up to me and attempted to slap me as she yelled, but before she could achieve anything, I calmly grabbed her wrist before it could reach my face.

"You’re starting to piss me off." I squinted my eyes menacingly, addressing not only the girl who attempted to slap me, but also her boss and her other cronies. I even tightened my grip on the girl’s wrist, to the point that you could even hear her flesh contorting slightly.

The leader seemed to falter in her confidence upon seeing how easily I took down her goon and am making her suffer. Everyone else was shocked as well at the sheer amount of calmness and ease with which I dealt with this situation.

"Now, are you going to apologise and leave me alone, or am I going to have to MAKE you leave me alone?" I threatened their leader and released my [Elemental Aura] a bit to intimidate her.

Everyone else was certainly scared, but she should be down right terrified right now since the focus is all on her and her alone.

I could see her tremble under my power and unable to respond because of that, so I lessened the potency of my Aura by half to allow her to respond.

"Well? What’s your answer going to be?" I pressed on.

"I-I-I-" She stuttered quietly.
