Chapter 226: Krara City

After several minutes setting things up, the group of what I found out to be trainee guards, had managed to create a makeshift sled which would help with dragging this thing across the many dunes that we still had to cross.

This sled was meant to help by preventing the worm from getting buried in the pile of sand that would inevitably build up in front of it after a while.

How effective this sled would actually be remains to be seen.

While the trainees put all of that together, I talked with their captain, who was named Alera, and asked if we could just stay here for the rest of the day as I was tired after dragging this thing all the way here.

Unfortunately, she said that we had to make progress as her squad had to get back soon as this was just a training exercise for them.

So, despite my reluctance to continue due to my tiredness and boredom with doing this, I still went ahead and kept going anyways until the sun began setting.

And during that time, we had made a lot of headway, managing to do together what would’ve taken me like another two days to do alone.

I also made sure to keep injecting my paralysis venom and encouraged the other Naga’s to do the same, which they thankfully complied with as they understood the reasons as to why it had to be done.

After that, we set up camp for the night and I got to sleep in an actual bed instead of the floor.

I wouldn’t’ve minded sleeping on the floor but obviously they had to bring sleeping accommodations as required by law when someone gives out the signal for assistance. Or something like that.

Anyways, they set up camp in the evening and cooked some meat for dinner. It wasn’t great, but I’ve had worse before so I wasn’t going to complain.

After we ate, Alera instructed us all to sleep and that she would take watch for tonight.

But before I got into my sleeping bag, I suggested that we all injected some more venom into the worm. The Lamia’s just went to sleep and Alera said that she wouldn’t do that as she needed the energy to keep watch for tonight. Which is understandable as poisoning someone or something can get very tiring if you do it constantly over a short period of time.

So, me and Vyrdan’s harem, yes harem, spent a little bit of time injecting our paralysis venom into the worm’s tongue before going to bed.

I got into the sleeping sack, which was more like a blanket roll with the way it functioned.

It was rather light and mainly just shielded us from the wind and only covered our upper bodies as our tails only really felt things when excessive force was applied to them.

I quickly fell asleep, but not before hearing Vyrdan fucking his harem in his own private tent. Thankfully, I was able to ignore it and fall asleep in time.

The next morning came and I awakened, getting out of my sleeping blanket to find that Vyrdan was awake. Apparently Alera had woken him up halfway through the night and made him take her place as night watch as punishment for, as she put it, ’reckless behaviour’.

I didn’t believe that per se, but it wasn’t my place to say, so I said nothing about it and we all had breakfast before preparing to make the last leg of our journey towards the city.

And hopefully, when we reach the flatlands, they will send some more help upon seeing us. But that hope was shot down instantly by Alera who said otherwise, meaning that we would have to just trudge through this until we reached the city.

I sighed and resigned myself to stay awake for the next day or so, doing nothing but dragging this living corpse essentially all the way to the city gates.

Thankfully, with the help of Alera and her squad, we were able to make good progress.

The sled the hoisted the front of the worm worked perfectly to prevent it from getting lodged in the sand, and with everyone else helping out with either pushing or pulling this thing along, it was actually really easy to make progress, especially after a decent rest and some food.

And we even managed to make it to the flatlands shortly after midday, which meant that we didn’t have to worry about sand anymore, so the two Lamia’s and one of Vyrdan’s women took it apart and packed up the resources used to make it.

Then, without needing to make sure that the worm remained on the sled, everyone was now able to help with moving this thing.

Which because of, late into the night, we were able to reach an area close enough to the city and stopped.

The guards came over and inquired about everything but Alera took care of all of that while the rest of us made doubly sure to keep the worm paralysed with our venom, which we had been doing a little more sparsely over the course of the day to not tire ourselves.

When the conversation was done, I was asked to go with Alera for the time being, at least until I had sold this worm to someone at a later date in an auction that would be prepared within a week.

Alera then led me to a private guest villa near the guard house which was used for situations like this until I could find my own accommodations.

I was given a key to my temporary room for the time being and decided to go out and explore the city for the orphanage that was created by the Duchess.

And as I wandered throughout the streets. Seeing several different types od folk wandering up and down them, most of them being of serpentine descent.

You had Lamia’s, Naga’s, I think I even saw a Gorgon. Not sure about that last one as they had their hair covered up but that’s usually a telltale sign of a gorgon. That and their somewhat sickly green skin and darker coloured scales.

Then there are the Serpentar, they are also of serpentine descent as the name suggests, except their whole bodies are covered in scales and they have a slightly dysmorphic shaped heads, which now that I look at it, somewhat resemble those on my ancestral ring as well as the two will of those forgotten souls residing within me.

They also walk on two legs, are generally taller than most other serpentine when standing casually or even slouched, and have a tail that comes off of them from just above their asses, which are similar to the rest of the serpentine populace, just a bit shorter and thinner.

There was also the occasional human or dwarf and some centaurs here and there, but mostly, the city was populated by serpentine as the city was part of the Naga kingdom, which was under the banner of the Serpentine Empire.

I won’t get into the details of politics as it can get quite complicated but know that there is discrimination in some places. Not here though, as it seems that the populace is quite open to other species.

All that aside, I eventually managed to find the orphanage and entered to apply. Whether or not I actually could remains to be seen, but at least I’ll have an answer soon.

When I entered, I was greeted with a female Lamia with tits bigger than mine. She was wearing a transparent skirt and a lot of jewellery on her upper body.

"Welcome the Krara City Orphanage. Are you here to adopt someone or become adopted?" She greeted with a warm and inviting smile, her voice laced with sweet honey.

I reached up to the desk she was sat at and answered, "Hi, I’m here to become adopted."

She nodded and filtered through the drawers under her desk and handed me some paperwork to fill out. She also handed me a pencil to fill it out with as well.

"Please fill out the form to the best of your abilities, and if you need some help or there’s something you don’t understand, then don’t be afraid to ask me for help, okay?"

I nodded and moved over to one of the seats by the wall and began filling the form out.

"Name: Traytora Arizaraa" I debated putting my full name in there but decided against it as I didn’t want to be ostracised for it.

Eventually I filled out the form and went back over to hand it to the receptionist.

She looked over it with the same smile that she greeted me with, occasionally nodding as she read it before stamping it with a green stamp.

"Your form will be sent in for approval by the end of the day, in the meantime, please enjoy your stay in Krara city."
