A Serpent's Tale -
Chapter 222: Returning to My Motherland
Chapter 222: Returning to My Motherland
I pressed the ring onto the base of the paintings frame and just like when I entered earlier, the snake awoke and bit into me and drew a small bit of blood, and then inserted its teeth into a specific nook in the frame which acted as security to prevent anyone else from trying to get in.
The wall then slid open, revealing the cavity behind it that led into the entrance hall of the inheritance after a small hallway of pitch black darkness.
I entered the entrance hallway once more and took one last look around.
Although I had barely spent any time in here compared to how long I had lived, this place has made a special place in my heart for itself. It was a place that I knew would be a safe haven for me at all times.
It would also serve as a place of solitude and solace. A place where I can be alone and just think when I want to.
But that was for the future, for now, I should get going, or else I’ll be here forever thinking about the future or looking around in the treasury or something.
I slithered over to the right where the portal room was and held my ring up to it. The wall trembled before sliding backwards and parting, granting me access to the room behind.
I went in and reached the tablet that would supposedly explain how this room worked. Arriving at the tablet, the words on it read; "Welcome to the Gateways."
It was as simple as that. Nothing more, nothing less. But I knew that that wasn’t everything, so I swiped my hand from right to left and the words on the tablet changed just as I expected.
"To use this room, you will need to ask for an orb that will be able to teleport you back to the Illuminati. You can just go ask someone to take this to the higher ups and I’m sure they’ll get it done since I’m the one who decreed it."
I swiped to the next page.
"Once you have done that, you can place it upon the imprint beneath this tablet. Just simply turn it to the right, then the left, back into this position and lift it off. Once you’ve done that, just place the orb given to you in the slot and wait until there’s a bright red glow coming from inside the orb. To put this tablet back on, just reverse the process used to take it off."
’That seems rather simple’ I did as the tablet instructed and took the tablet off and sure enough there was a slot for it to go.
So, I placed it in and waited patiently for it to glow red. But as soon as it entered, I felt the room, no, the entire structure tremble as dust fell from the ceiling.
But that was all. A small tremble and a light dust fall. It was likely that because it had been so long since this mechanism had been activated, if it had ever been activated at all, that the sudden activation of it caused the mechanisms to shake as they finally started up again.
Thankfully nothing else happened and all I had to do now was wait. So I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Eventually I got bored and headed back into the treasury to explore some more, and after finding a pretty red hat that had some roses and a few feathers on it, I put it on and headed back to the gateway room to see if whatever process was going on had finished.
It hadn’t. It was still going but I could tell that it was nearly done so I stayed and waited a bit longer for it to finish doing whatever it needed to do.
And not long after, I heard some sort of ’shing’ like noise which should mean that it’s done.
I took the orb out of the socket and placed the tablet back onto the stand that it was on and reconnected it, then swiped to the next page.
"Now that you’ve connected the teleportation core to this room, hopefully, you can now use it to return here at any time with any of the Illuminati’s waypoints throughout the world, new or old. Don’t worry, you can just use the orb to detect if you are nearby with your will at any time."
"Now! To actually use this to get out of here, you’ll need to know a few things first. First of which is that when using this thing for the first time, you must have a general idea of where you want to go and you’ll be dropped somewhere nearby."
"Once out in the world, you can set up to a hundred location in the world that can lead back here, and they can be deleted anytime you wish, you just have to think about it. Don’t worry, only you will be able to go through them so don’t worry about someone following you through or something. Also, you won’t ever lose them because you can detect them as well."
That was a rather long page.
"To set up a usable waypoint, you should first make sure that it is hidden as these waypoints aren’t infallible. Once you find a location, you just need will into the teleportation core that you want this spot is one you want to use as a waypoint."
"And that’s it really. Nothing too complicated frankly. Just make sure that no one sees you. I know I said that they can’t follow you through, but that doesn’t mean they cannot trace the spatial node back. That is unless you have astromancy and can remove said traces."
"But I find it highly unlikely that you have that affinity. However, on the off chance that you do, there is a technique for it in the treasury all the way to the right corner from the entrance."
"Now, when you look up, you will see three archways, which are actually the portals. The left one is the one connected to the Illuminati’s gateways. The middle one will be the one for the waypoints you have personally created. And the last one is the one that will teleport you to a location nearby to the location you want, and if you’re lucky enough, might just drop you where you want."
"And that’s everything. You are now free to use these portals as and when you wish."
Another lengthy explanation which, to be honest, didn’t really go into as much detail as I would’ve liked but, it did get the job done.
Still, I would’ve liked a more organised explanation but I’m sure that the Goddess had a good reason for this half-baked explanation right? Right?
Anyways, now that I have everything, I put the teleportation core into my storage and went over to the third gateway and realised, I have now idea how the fuck I’m supposed to use these things.
I went up to them and tried to pass through the thing and felt some sort of barrier blocking me. I pressed my hands up against it, which created a ripple, and used my new [Mana Vision] to see if I could garner something from it as this barrier felt somewhat flimsy yet it was surprisingly strong.
And what I saw was an extremely complex series of spatial inscriptions and formations upon the rippling barrier which made my head hurt just by looking at it. So I stopped using [Mana Vision] and clasped my head which was throbbing in pain from the amount of information that it just took in.
There were several different layers of several thousands of runes so intricately connected that I could barely understand what I was looking at.
But the only thing I did understand as my headache subsided, was how to use it, and that was to press my hand against the ’barrier’ and input the general location of where I want to go and it’ll create a link to that place.
Which is what I did. I placed my hand upon the barrier and thought about the place that I wanted to go to.
Krara city.
It was the place I wanted to go to since before I even ended up here in the human territories. I was finally going to get there and get into the orphanage by the duchess.
Once the location had been confirmed, I could feel the barrier changing, so I took my hand off of it and moved back a little and watched as the barrier changed into a spatial gateway.
It started to turn into a deep blue, taking on the colour of the clouds in sky at night that exist far beyond our world, with a hint of indigo. These colours, which took on the patterns of the deep night sky, then started to swirl into a vortex, indicating that it was ready.
I took a deep breath and entered the portal, ready for this next Chapter of my life.
