Chapter 209: Mana Heart (1/2)

*Pant* *Pant* *Pant*

I sat in a small pit that must have been made by my mana going berserk and bursting out of my body like what Ouroboros said it did.

I took a moment to breathe and calm down my body that felt like it was on fire. Then I realised that it actually was on fire.

Out of pure instinct and panic, I patted myself down to put the fire out before I remembered that it doesn’t do anything to me. So, I stopped and calmed down, which was a lot harder than before due to the fact that I could feel my heard beating much faster than normal.

Eventually though, I managed to calm it down enough to get a proper hold on my surroundings, and noticed that Kronia was staring at me in horror and incredulity, like she couldn’t believe what she was looking at.

I double checked myself and aside from my new heart, nothing seemed off. And that’s when I got the notification.

[Ding!]

[You have created a [Mana Heart: LvL. 1]. One of only three that currently exist.]

Huh?

[You have levelled up the following skills; [Death Resistance; LvL. 1] by One.]

’Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait... What does it mean by "One of only three that currently exist?" Why has my soul scroll shown me that? It doesn’t say things like that normally.’

As I tried to wrap my brain over why my soul scroll added that extra statement, I heard the sound of someone, likely Kronia, take a step. When I looked up, I was right in that it was Kronia, but she moved backwards for some reason.

And before I could ask, a bunch of robed figures in black robes that had a dark red trim appeared all around us, and all of them had a triangle with an eye inscribed on it. The one leading them had some sort of golden threads lining his red trims.

The mysterious figure walked towards me and I flinched backwards, which made the robed person stop and look around before stopping their gaze onto Kronia.

"Kronia?" A male voice that had an air of elegance yet a hint of antiquity to it called out.

Kronia, who seemed frightened by the presence of the robed figures just as much as me, if not more so, became less afraid upon hearing that voice.

"TH-Thalor? Is that you?" She stammered, still unsure if that was the voice of this Thalor person that she seemed to know.

"Kronia what are you doing here?" The guy apparently named Thalor asked vehemently.

"What are YOU doing here?" Kronia shouted back.

"You know about the Mana Heart I told you about ages ago, right?"

"What about it?"

"This one here has just made one in themselves. Speaking of, why exactly is she able to move in stopped time?" Thalor questioned back in an annoyed tone.

Kronia sputtered over her words for a minute before she could even form a coherent sentence.

"I-I was just escorting her out of my farm because that brat Robert wanted to kidnap her and that’s bad." Was the best that she could come up with.

"Ugh... Haven’t I told you to punish for his insolence? Like several times already?" Thalor berated.

Kronia just winced and looked away in shame.

That’s when I decided to speak up. "Um, excuse me but, what’s going on?"

All of the robed figures then looked towards me in synchrony and began to circle in on me.

In a panic, I tensed up and my body burst into flames reflexively. The robed people then stopped and the one called Thalor took a few steps forward.

"Calm down... Uh, what’s your name?" He started to comfort me until he went to say my name, so he asked for it.

I didn’t respond as I was too afraid to do so. These people were clearly more powerful than me based on their aura’s, and Thalor’s was greater than anyone else currently here, greater than even Kronia’s.

There was no point in trying to fight. They clearly had a Chronomancer or two among their ranks and could easily overpower both me and Kronia with their own prowess.

Thalor could clearly see my apprehensiveness so he spoke once more, "Listen, we’re not here to take you away or anything, unless you want us to but we’ll get to that later. As one of the only other people with a Mana Heart, I want to know how you did it."

"Y-You have a Mana Heart?" I asked in shock.

"Yes, I do." He said as he placed his hand on his chest where his heart would be, and then I could feel a resonance between my own heart and his, as if my heart was acknowledging his own due to their uniqueness in being so rare that there are only three in existence.

"Why do you want to know this then?" I inquired, not nearly as afraid, because I somehow could feel that he didn’t want to do anything unruly towards me thanks to the connection between out hearts. It was weird, but that didn’t mean that I trusted him just yet.

Thalor then explained in a calm and sophisticated manner, "I want to know everything that happened to you in the creation of your mana heart, so that we can use this information to possible recreate it with the knowledge that we already have on this process. This way, we can hopefully give others a better chance at surviving the process of creating such a thing within them, as every time it’s been a failure." He finished off with a hint of regret and sadness.

I squinted my eyes and queried, "Why do you want to create more Mana Hearts? I’ve heard how dangerous it is and the impact it’s caused when it appears in the past."

Thalor was taken aback by my inquiry, as shown by the way he flinched. "How do you know about this knowledge?" He demanded in a darker tone.

"Why should I tell you?" I retorted defiantly, crossing my arms and looking away from him.

Thalor sighed with a hint of tiredness. "You’re a Demon spawn, aren’t you? More specifically one of the demon lords of the many hells."

I tensed up and looked back at him. "How can you tell?"

"Because the last person that I encountered with a Mana Heart was also such a being. His name was Diavlo."

"Diavlo?" Why do I feel like I’ve heard that name before? And why does hearing it make me sad?
