A Serpent's Tale
Chapter 184: Godspawn

Chapter 184: Godspawn

Hayly glared at me with hatred burning in her eyes as she fumed under my grasp, literally.

"Stop! What are you doing!?" Lia shouted in worry as she got up and ran over to me.

"This woman doesn’t care for you. She only cares about pleasing her goddess, and that means that she has to make you into the hero that her mistress wants. I’ve heard that they’re called Malafantic’s. I know because my father explained to me that a Malafantic blindly obey the divine decrees of their holy masters." I explained what I knew to Lia, which shocked her to her core.

"Ke... Keke... Eke..."

I turned back to look at Hayly struggling to laugh as I discovered the truth about her.

"N-No. No no no no... Th-This c-can’t be real right? Hayly, p-please t-tell me it’s n-not t-true, right?" I turned back to see Lia’s legs collapse as she sat on the floor looking up at Hayly who was in my grasp in disbelief and denial.

"I think you know it to be true. You’ve just grown attached to the woman you knew as Hayly, but she doesn’t exist." I stated bluntly, turning my gaze back to Hayly. "I bet that’s not even your real name, is it?"

I then threw Hayly against the wall again and she peeled off of it once more, but before she could fall face flat against the floor, she stopped, and her body began to float into the air, glowing slightly with a golden glow.

Her body pulsed with the golden light as it encapsulated her as she began floating upright in a t shape.

The lights coalesced around her hands, forearms, legs, crotch, chest and head, It also coalesced in her hands into a thin, long, pointy shape, probably a spear. On her other hand it amalgamated into what I can only assume is a shield, with the shape of a rectangle with a rounded, circular top.

The light then dispersed and ’Hayly’ emerged out of it with golden armour adorning the places the light enveloped. And I was right about the spear and the shield. The spear was rather simple, with a golden polearm with a shiny and pointy tip. But on the shield was a symbol of some chimeric monstrosity, resembling some sort of... Lion horse with wings pulling a chariot?

"Kekekakakaka! So, you found out? What gave it away?" ’Hayly’ remarked in a snarky and arrogant tone.

"Honestly? Just a guess based on what I knew and saw. I wasn’t even sure if it was true, but thanks for revealing it bitch." I retorted.

"Tch. Whatever, after I kill you, I’ll bring Lia out of here and back to the sacred altar, I’ll erase her memories of this place! And then I can start again!" She screeched as she lunged at me with a faster speed than before.

I was ready for it and hence was able to react. But I decided to play around with the Malafantic for a bit.

I also wanted to play around with my powers as the new Dungeon Master. So, I created a wall that separated her from the rest of the room.

The wall quickly slammed shut, coming from both the top and the bottom and snapping shut on her spear. I could hear her screams coming from behind the wall, and also her struggles to get her spear out of the wall, though only faintly.

"S-So, she was just using me?"

I snapped my head back and saw Lia trembling on the floor in despair as her world was torn apart. I couldn’t help but feel a twang of sympathy that grew by the second as I saw myself in her. A broken soul, metaphorically, and with no light to guide her away.

I at least had the power inherited by my father, the power of Lust, which seems to settle my mind whenever I do lewd things. But her? I don’t know if she has such things. So, I slithered over to her and sat back onto my tail.

She was sniffling into her hands with her head down when I sat down next to her and placed a hand onto shoulder.

"It’ll be okay, maybe not now, but it will get better." I said trying to comfort her.

"N-No... My life has been ruined... All I’ve ever known was this... And it was all a lie..."

*Crack*

The wall in front of us cracked slightly, but I just repaired it. I wanted to try and help this girl who was so much like me, broken and shattered. I wanted to make sure that she doesn’t experience this again, and becoming more like me in the process...

"You’re not the only one who’s life has been destroyed by others like this..." I said as my shoulders slumped and my hand slipped off of her shoulder.

My head fell down just like hers had and my eyes were hollow and dead, despite their vibrant colours.

I could vaguely see her looking to me out of the corner of my eyes as I raised my hands shakily.

"At least you haven’t let everyone down every... single... time..." I said with a blank stare and a crazed and deranged smile.

*Crack*

The wall cracked again but this time I didn’t repair it, too far in a spiral of depression of my own creation as flickers of memories flash in my mind of everything I don’t want to remember.

"Sometimes... Sometimes I wonder if I should just kill myself..." My hands fell limp, hanging from my sides as I spoke.

*Crack* *Crack*

The wall cracked a lot more this time, yet I still did nothing, too depressed to bother.

That’s when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked over to see Lia looking at me with a somewhat horrified and also worried expression.

*Gulp* She gulped down some of her fears and spoke up, "A-Are you... Okay?"

I look back down and responded despondently, "No... No, I’m not... And I don’t think I ever will be..."

*Crack* *Crack* *Crack*

The wall cracked a lot more audibly and even a few webs began to form on its surface.

This made Lia jump as she shook my body and frantically said, "We need to find a way out of here now!" But I didn’t respond even as she stood up and shook me more. "C’mon, what’re you waiting for? You need to get up! Or else you’re going to die!"

"Maybe... This is for the best... I leave this world... And I get to meet father again..."

"What?"

*CRACK* *BOOM*

The wall crumbled and the Malafantic woman came through, charging straight at me with a maniacal laugh.

"KAKAKAKAKAA!!!!! YOU’RE DEAD!!" She shouted as she dove towards me.

And then, Lia stood in front of me. I looked up to her back, standing there like a wall meant to protect the weak, like a true hero.

The malafantic woman stopped just before she pierced Lia.

"What are you doing Lia?" She asked in a deadly tone.

"I can’t let you kill her! She’s suffered enough! And she shouldn’t suffer more than she already has!"

I could see that Lia was trembling even now, despite the fact that she was putting up a brave front.

"Stand aside." The malafantic woman ordered coldly.

"No! I won’t take orders from you anymore! I don’t want to be your bitch’s hero!"

"I don’t care what you think. You’ll become the heroic vessel of my master whether you like it or not. Besides, it’s not like the treacherous serpentine behind you is any better, haven’t you noticed the slight bulge in her tail?" She smiled cruelly.

"I’m not falling for your tricks anymore." Lia said with a brave front, still trembling as she stood before me and protecting me, when I should be the one protecting her.

"You think you can stop me?" The malafantic woman asked coldly once again. Then her cruel smile came back as she slammed her polearm into Lia’s side and sending her crashing into the wall violently.

She coughed up blood, just like ’Hayly’ did earlier, and then the woman’s focus was back onto me. She stared down at me with a sharp and nasty grin on her face as she raised her spear to strike me down.

And in that moment, my anger towards this bitch was reignited, and so too, was my desire to protect Lia and make sure that she doesn’t become like me.
