A Serpent's Tale
Chapter 143: Devastation

Chapter 143: Devastation

(No POV)

The patriarchs were fighting the giant Wrath demon that suddenly emerged from within their city and grew to gargantuan proportions before wrecking the city and killing everyone in it.

They had their subordinates rush to escort everyone to the nearest gate out of the city whilst they, along with their strongest members proceeded to distract the demon from causing more damage and trying to keep it in one place.

Ultimately, they failed to keep it in place as it slowly grew stronger and stronger, slowly overpowering them and causing carnage and despair throughout the city, they were barely even able to hold it in one place for even a few seconds.

"GRAHAHAHAHA!!!! YOU FOOLS WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO STOP ME!!!! I WILL DESTROY THIS CITY AND RIP OUT ITS SOUL TO PRESENT IT TO MY MASTER!!!! GRAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" The demon roared triumphantly in his boisterous gravelly voice as he fended off the patriarch’s attacks.

"It’s no use! He just keeps getting stronger!" Tobreos yelled to his companions.

"We can see that old man!" The Saki patriarch yelled as she threw another batch of flames at the demon.

"GRAHAHAHA!!! YOU’RE PITIFUL MORTAL FLAMES ARE NO MATCH FOR THE FLAMES HELL LET ALONE MY FLAMES OF WRATH!!!" The demon mocked as he hurled a ball of Wrathful flames toward the Saki patriarch.

"Shit!" She was barely able to dodge the flames, but only at the cost of the flames destroying the building behind her, the flames burning people alive as pieces of said building fell down and crushed people to death.

"We can’t keep this up!" The Honeydale patriarch complained, being the weakest of the bunch, her kind wasn’t made to fight.

"Well you don’t have a choice! Just do whatever you can to help us!" The Saki patriarch yelled back at her.

"GRAHAHAHA!!!! LOOK AT ALL OF YOU!!! SQAUBLING AMONGST YOURSELVES WHILST TRYING TO FIGHT ME!!!! PATHETIC!!!!" The demon roared mockingly as he continued attacking with reckless abandon intentionally to destroy more of the city.

The patriarchs kept on attacking though, their spirits never wavering despite the odds being stacked against them.

Tobreos used the city itself to aid him in his attacks by creating poisonous, thorny spears and trying his best to pierce the demons skin, but they always burned before they could even reach.

The Fyyas patriarch did the same, and even helped by working in tandem with Tobreos, empowering each other’s attacks, in hopes that they might be able to harm the damn thing.

The Cain patriarch used his wind magic to try and mitigate or deflect the flames made by the demon, but it was having little effect, barely managing to shift its direction.

The Auris patriarch conjured weapons made of an enchanting light that threatened to break through the seemingly impenetrable defences of the demon, causing it to defend from his attacks.

The Qilin patriarch, along with his wife and the Saki patriarch, threw their own flames at the ones produced by the demon in an attempt to fight fire with fire.

Most of the Myryn and Grimwills were out in the forest, including their patriarchs. As for the Qeith family, half of them were helping with the evacuation while the other half was out in the forest killing goblins.

"GRAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" The demon continued to laugh as he rained literal hell fire down upon the city, burning it to cinders and killing everyone it touched in mere seconds.

Tens of thousands of lives were lost every minute, the demon growing larger over time as more and more souls from the forest were absorbed by the ritual circle and giving the demon greater strength.

Something all of them failed to notice however, was the storm clouds gathering above. Dorrak had finished his fight against his opponent in the demon’s camp.

Midway through that fight, he felt this nagging feeling eating away at him, he had felt it before but it wasn’t until it was too late that he realised something bad would happen soon. More specifically, something bad would happen to Traytora.

As soon as he realised that, he was empowered by his Minotaur’s nature, giving him twice the strength and speed at the cost of using more stamina than normal.

With this boost in strength, he quickly and brutally turned his opponent into lumps of lifeless flesh and bones.

He then quickly zapped away into some thunder clouds that had started gathering above him and shot over to the city as fast as he could. And when he arrived, his eyes went wide upon seeing the horror and carnage below.

It took him a few seconds to take it all in, to register what had happened here. And when he laid eyes upon the culprit, his anger flared.

Like a bolt of lightning striking down with the heaven’s fury, Dorrak dove down and crashed into demon, sending him flying backwards.

"AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!" The demon screamed out in pain from the sheer force of the lightning that struck him in the chest and sending him skidding across the city.

When the demon was about to get back up, Dorrak launched himself at him again and landed on his face, smashing the demons head into the ground and cracking its skull slightly.

The rest of the patriarchs quickly caught up and sent their own attacks at the giant monstrosity, some of their attacks finally landing.

"AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!" The demons screamed once again, the pain enraging him as his wrath empowered him.

"YOU PUNY ANTS!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!!" With his anger flared, he unleashed his true power, the power of Wrath literally exploding out of him as he got back up and went on the offensive against his foes, Wrathful flames emerging out of every pore in his body, making it harder to hit him physically.

They were forced to use ranged attacks, but that only made things worse as more and more of the city was destroyed or burned. Thankfully, most if not all of the citizens had managed to escape by now.

Blast of fire, nature and lightning were thrown around like snowballs, blowing apart the remaining building in the city.

This continued on for a minute, the demon getting angrier and more powerful at twice the speed, and the patriarchs becoming more frustrated at their own incompetence and inability to do anything.

And then a sensation, a feeling of dread, different to the one emitted from the Wrath demon. It was not filled with hatred or a need for vengeance, nor was it filled with any aggression.

No, it was a dread filled with pain, suffering, loss, and more. It was a dread coming from someone who had lost everything, lost the last crutch they had to their life, forever broken, forever in agony, for they had lost it all, and broke.

Everyone in the city, from the demon, to the patriarch’s, to Dorrak, and even those that were still alive and hiding, felt the sorrow of Traytora, and her fracturing soul.

Everything, all of the negative emotions that had built up for a century, were let out as Traytora’s soul fractured and fragmented from the pressure imposed by her agony.

And not only did her emotions leak, so did her power. With her soul fractured, nothing was stopping all of it from spilling out and causing chaos unto anyone unfortunate enough to be in its path.

Flames of Lust, Poison, Space and Hell burst outwards in an explosion, disintegrating the surrounding, but the space that Traytora was in was perfectly fine, because subconsciously she just didn’t want anyone or anything right now.

Her demonic and serpentine bloodline was unleashed along with her soul, all of her prowess manifested into long, slithering serpents, like those of the world before it reformed. They thrashed around with no regards to what or who they hit, turning whatever was hit into nothing as the chaos of her elements became the element of chaos, crumbling down as they writhed in agony.

"W-WHAT IS THIS?!?!" The Wrath demon shouted in anger and fear. "I-I WILL NOT TOLERATE BEING M-MOCKED LIKE THIS BY SOME PUNY BITCH OF A PRINCESS FROM THAT WHORE OF AN ARCHDEMON!!!!!! GGGRRRRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"

He charged at the girl in fury, covering his body in Wrathful flames as he raised his fist down upon her. But just as he got close, the flailing snakes all converged upon him like a swarm of locusts, biting into him despite their constant decaying because of their own power and now the flames of Wrath.

"GRAHAHAHA!!!! YOUR PUNY TRICKS CAN’T DO ANYTHING AGAINST ME!!!! THEY CAN ONLY SLOW DOWN THE INEVITABLE!!!!"

Unfortunately for the demon, at that moment, Asmodeus tore the Sin of Wrath out of him, snuffing out his power tremendously, as without a prime source to, in this case Satan, the Sin cannot spread its power to those that wield it.

And to add insult to injury, because Asmodeus was unleashing his full power without holding back, some of it flowed into his daughter through the ring, empowering her abilities even further, even if only for this small amount of time.

And with the loss of his main power, he was just a big snack.

"W-W-Wait! WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!!!! NO! STOP! PLEASE STOP!!!! AAAAARRRRRGGHHHHH!!!!!" He screamed in pain as the serpents tore him apart and devoured him alive, piece by piece, bit by bit, until there was nothing left.

"What just happened?"
