Chapter 135: Turmoil in Hell
(Asmodeus POV)
(Past)
After I finished releasing my wrath upon those pitiful mortals that dared to harm my daughter, I called my forces back before the gateway to the mortal realm closed. And after it closed, I was called to meet by Lucifer.
I groaned, knowing that he would certainly give me a stern talking to for this. Still, he was the king and I couldn’t disobey him otherwise I would be punished. He had not only the power of the Sin of Pride, the power of being the King of Hell, and his Angelic Bloodline, all that combined with his ruthless attitude made him the most powerful being in Hell.
I had my dukes deal with the aftermath of the imps and whatever else travelled to earth while I prepared to meet Lucifer, and more than likely Satan as well, bastards probably pissed that overpowered his domain.
I got dressed in my best suit and told my subordinates that I was leaving.
I evaporated into a pink smoke inside of my castle and appeared outside Lucifers throne room. The door depicted his fall on the left and then his rise as king on the right.
Ignoring the intricately detail doors that I’ve seen tens of thousands of times, I push them open and entered the grandiose hall filled with several marble statues, pillars of pure gold, tapestries of just Lucifer and several other ornaments designed in his likeness to boost his prideful ego.
Sitting at the other end of the room, Lucifer sat upon his grandiose throne that showed his power like a saint, with Satan standing on the side with a smug grin.
I soon stood before the two with a blank face, knowing what was coming.
"You called." I said in a monotone manner.
"Come now Asmodeus, we’ve been friends for millennia, why so cold?" Lucifer asked his voice filled with sweetness.
"Tch." I sneered at this man’s attempts to act like friends, "Drop the saintly act Lucifer, we all know what’s behind that facade of yours, just tell me why you called for me."
The man’s smile faded and was replaced with a frown as he dropped his head into his hands.
"Do you realise what you have done? Do you realise the consequences of your actions?" He asked in a serious tone.
"What of it? They had it coming, and besides, why do you care? Why should you care? It’s not like it matters what they think now." I remarked.
"Because this goes beyond just Heaven, that child of yours has disrupted fate and-"
I interrupted him once I heard that the fates were involved, "Oh big whoop, fate was interrupted, who cares? Ever since the reformation of Earth the fates have lost their hold on the mortal world, plus, half of them are locked up in the forbidden zone anyways and even if they weren’t sealed away, what difference would it make? There are far too many individuals unbound by fate that they wouldn’t be able control everything like they used to. Also, the new gods absolutely despise the fates so they’re-"
"SHUT UP!" Satan cried in a loud rage. "You have no Idea what’s going with the mortal world, do you?"
"Please, I haven’t cared for anything but my realm and my daughter for the past two centuries and you know that." I retorted. "Also, by the sounds of things, you seem to be working with them, are you perhaps siding with Diab-"
"SILENCE!" Lucifer yelled as he heard that name. "Do not speak that name in my presence."
"I apologise, your majesty." Satan apologised while trembling in fear at the pressure that Lucifer was releasing.
I however, was not as affected, and remained standing. Still, he was the king and despite becoming the second most powerful Sin, he was still stronger than me, so I apologised anyways, "Sorry." But not as respectfully since I could still hold my own against this man.
Lucifer sighed, "You know, Asmodeus, I really do appreciate both, your boldness and your strength as it makes the power dynamic slightly more interesting for me, but sometimes you need to know your limits."
"I do know my limits, it’s just that I forget them in certain situations." I said glaring at Satan.
"Hmph!"
"Still, this is a massive problem as not only will Heaven demand retribution, so will several other gods from minor pantheons and the fates." Lucifer brought us back on track.
"I still don’t see how this is an issue. For one, Heaven can’t do shit against us unless they go for a full-scale war, which they can’t win. Second, nobody gives a shit about the fates these days except those idiotic mortals who cling to their so called ’visions’ for false glory. And lastly, what are these gods going to do? We are literally the biggest afterlife on the negative side of the scale! If they dare threaten us, we threaten them back with extermination! We’ve done that before, what’s stopping us from doing it again?"
Lucifer then proceeded to explain, "Because the powers mentioned are moving against us. Sure, we can deal with them individually, but not if they put all of their forces together. We might come out on top even in that scenario, but we would become very susceptible to others trying to capitalize on our situation."
"Hmm..." I thought about what he said and it is true, but why would he say this... Unless, "Are they-"
"Yes."
There was a silence when he answered my question before I could even ask it.
"Then what’s the plan? Surely we aren’t going to take this lying down, are we?" I asked.
"That’s the thing, due to our standing among both the pantheons, the divine realms and afterlives, we don’t have anyone to back us up, so we have to tread lightly if we don’t want to fall into ruin." Lucifer further explained.
"Does that mean that everyone, and I mean everyone, in Hell must come together to resist, including Lilith and... Him?" I asked slightly nervous at the mention of Diablo.
"Lilith yes, him on the other hand..." Lucifer took a moment to think, and in that moment, Satan took this opportunity to speak up.
"Why are you thinking about this? He’s the most despised being in all of creation! No one in Hell besides his own followers like him and every pantheon hates him because of his campaigns against literally everyone! Just throw him under the bus or something and blame him for all of this."
Lucifer perked his head up when he heard that. "That’s... Actually not a bad idea... Hmm..."
Satan was shocked that he actually liked the idea, so surprised that he had to do a double take, "Wait, really?"
"We might not be able put all the blame on him, but we can blame him as the root cause of all of this, that will allow us to at least lessen the burden on us and put more pressure on him." Lucifer affirmed.
"Hmm. I have to agree, mostly because it shifts pressure off of me, but also those other things as well." I concurred.
