Chapter 1227: Disturbance

Before long, Han Li's group had arrived in front of a giant palace halfway up the mountain, and the words "Nine Origins Pavilion" were inscribed onto a plaque above the palace's entrance.

"Please come with me, fellow daoists," the guide said as he led the Prominent Mountain Sect cultivators into the palace.

The Nine Origins Pavilion didn't appear very large from the outside, but its interior was surprisingly spacious, spanning over ten thousand feet in size, so it was clear that some type of spatial restrictions had been incorporated into the building during its construction.

At this point, cultivators from several other sects had already arrived, and some of Zhou Xianyang's acquaintances immediately approached him to exchange some greetings.

Due to the stunning display that he had put on during the selection event, some people also approached Han Li to try and befriend him. Thankfully, Han Li had already been made aware of who these people were and their relationships to Chang Qi, so he was able to hold conversations with them just fine.

Close to an hour later, the cultivators from all twelve victorious sects had arrived, but none of people from the other sects were present.

A short while later, the sound of a gong being struck rang out, and everyone in the palace immediately rose to their feet as Immortal Envoy Feng Tian, Daoist Master Chun Jun, Lu Chuanfeng, Huo Yuan, and Immortal Lord Heavenly Star made their way into the room.

Trailing along behind Daoist Master Chun Jun were several Nine Origins Temple elders, but to Han Li's relief, Chi Meng wasn't in accompaniment.

Everyone in the palace extended a collective salute.

"We pay our respects to Immortal Envoy Feng Tian and Abbot Chun Jun!"

"No need for formalities. All of you have been invited here to receive your Bodhi Tokens, so without further ado, I ask that the twelve victorious cultivators please step forward," Daoist Master Chun Jun declared with a warm smile.

Han Li and the others emerged from their respective sects, arranging themselves into a row in front of Daoist Master Chun Jun and Immortal Envoy Feng Tian.

Daoist Master Chun Jun took a step back, while Immortal Envoy Feng Tian stepped forward and declared, "Present the Bodhi Tokens!"

As soon as his voice trailed off, an ornate, rectangular, golden box appeared out of thin amid a flash of radiant, golden light.

Immortal Envoy Feng Tian extended a bow toward the ornate box, then opened it to reveal twelve antiquated, golden tablets that gave off a peculiar aura, as if they contained some type of special energy.

Excited looks appeared on everyone's faces at the sight of the twelve tablets, and Han Li also feigned an excited expression to fit in with everyone else, but in reality, he wasn't all that excited by the sight of the Bodhi Tokens.

After all, securing a Bodhi Token was only a means to an end for him, and his ultimate objective had always been to rescue Jin Tong.

Once the Bodhi Token was secured, he would receive the information on Jin Tong promised to him by the Reincarnation Palace, and it would be time for him to plan a rescue.

Given his current cultivation base, there was no way that he could hope to oppose the entire Nine Origins Temple on his own, so the ideal situation for him would be for the Reincarnation Palace to muddy the waters.

However, even to this day, the objective for this mission still hadn't been revealed to him, and he didn't know if a good opportunity would arise, so he could only take things one step at a time.

Right at this moment, Immortal Envoy Feng Tian made a hand seal, and the twelve tablets flew out of the ornate box before landing in the hands of Han Li and the others.

Upon catching his Bodhi Token, Han Li was surprised to discover that it was extremely heavy for its size, and it was cold to the touch.

Furthermore, he could sense a burst of peculiar energy within it, and he couldn't help but wonder what type of material it had been forged from.

"These Bodhi Tokens were personally refined by the Time Dao Ancestor himself, and they're your tickets to the upcoming Bodhi Banquet, so make sure to keep them safe," Immortal Envoy Feng Tian said.

Han Li was just about to examine the contents of the tablet, and he immediately stopped what he was doing upon learning that the tokens had been refined by the Time Dao Ancestor.

"As usual, the Bodhi Banquet will be held in the Jade Pond Paradise. Each token will grant entry to three people. As for what you get out of the Bodhi Banquet, that will be up to you," Immortal Envoy Feng Tian continued.

Right at this moment, a beastly roar suddenly rang out from somewhere far away in the distance.

The expressions of all of the elders in the Nine Origins Pavilion instantly changed slightly upon hearing this, while Daoist Master Chun Jun turned to a short and stocky elder with his brows furrowed in an inquisitive manner.

The latter instantly closed his eyes and pressed the tips of his index and middle fingers against his own glabella, following which rings of golden light began to proliferate outward from his glabella.

The rings of golden light were giving off formidable soul power fluctuations, and it seemed as if he were using some type of special method of communication.

Moments later, he removed his fingers from his own glabella as he reported, "For some reason, the Green-Eyed Qilin over on the spirit beast mountain has gone on a rampage, and it's burst through its stable and currently wreaking havoc all over the mountain."

"The Green-Eyed Qilin is a Great Encompassment Stage spirit beast that's always possessed a high level of intelligence and a mellow nature, why has it suddenly gone on a rampage? Where's Elder Shan Yang? Isn't he the one who's always been responsible for looking after the Green-Eyed Qilin?" Daoist Master Chun Jun asked, and his placid reaction made it seem as if this were only a minor incident.

"Elder Shan Yang traveled to a lower realm to tame an early-High Zenith Stage demon beast that's been causing a great deal of destruction, and he's still yet to return," the short and stocky elder replied.

As soon as his voice trailed off, the commotion outside became even more chaotic, and it sounded as if even more spirit beasts had broken free.

After some further communication with the people on the spirit beast mountain, an anxious look appeared on the elder's face as he reported, "Many of the stables on the mountain had been broken by the Green-Eyed Qilin, and over seventy spirit beasts have broken free. Many of them have already stormed off the mountain, and two of them have made it to the spirit medicine fields, but thankfully, Elder Murong was able to intercept them."

"I have to attend to our guests here, so get Senior Martial Brother Lei Jun to take care of this matter," Daoist Master Chun Jun instructed.

The short and stocky elder gave an affirmative response before closing his eyes to initiate another bout of communication.

"My apologies, fellow daoists. Let's get back to the matter at hand," Daoist Master Chun Jun said with a composed smile.

"No matter. Let's continue," Immortal Envoy Feng Tian replied, yet right as the proceedings were about to continue, a resounding boom suddenly rang out from outside the Nine Origins Pavilion, causing the entire palace to shudder violently.

This was immediately followed by a string of thunderous explosions that came from a different direction as the spirit beast mountain.

"What's going on?" Daoist Master Chun Jun asked as he turned to the short and stocky elder once again.

After some further correspondence, the elder delivered Daoist Master Chun Jun another report, but this time, it was through voice transmission.

After hearing what the elder had to say, a hint of fury finally appeared on Daoist Master Chun Jun's face.

"My sincerest apologies, fellow daoists, but some urgent matters have arisen that I must attend to in person, so please wait here for me in the meantime," Daoist Master Chun Jun said as he rose to his feet before cupping his fist in an apologetic salute.

"Go ahead, Fellow Daoist Chun Jun, we'll have some tea here and await your return," Huo Yuan said.

With a flick of his wrist, Daoist Master Chun Jun summoned a silver horsetail whisk, which he casually swept through the air to conjure up a spatial door that collapsed inward.

Han Li was rather intrigued to see this. Daoist Master Chun Jun wasn't a cultivator of spatial laws, yet he was able to conjure up this spatial door, so the horsetail whisk in his hand had to have been a powerful spatial immortal treasure.

"Please attend to our guests in my stead, Elder Yu, I'll be right back," Daoist Master Chun Jun instructed, then stepped into the spatial door and vanished from the spot.

Immortal Envoy Feng Tian and the others sat back down to chat over some tea, while the people from the twelve sects were looking a little uneasy.

"Rest assured, fellow daoists, Abbot Chun Jun won't be gone for too long," the short and stocky elder with the Yu surname reassured, and the people from the twelve sects could only continue to sit in silence.

Roughly fifteen minutes passed by, and Daoist Master Chun Jun still hadn't returned.

"Is the Reincarnation Palace making a move?" Han Li asked through voice transmission.

"Our mission is only to secure a Bodhi Token. I don't know anything else," Zhou Xianyang replied.

Han Li knew that he wouldn't be able to get any answers from Zhou Xianyang, so he didn't ask any further questions.

Right at this moment, another thunderous explosion rang out, and this one was far closer to the Nine Origins Pavilion, causing the entire palace to tremble violently.

Much of the furniture in the palace was knocked over by the violent tremors, and everyone hurriedly stood up to steady themselves.

"What's going on?" Celestial Maiden Ziluo asked.

Everyone had felt just how violent that explosion had been, and what was even more alarming was that it had taken place very close to the Nine Origins Pavilion.

Han Li swept his gaze around the palace to discover that a layer of golden light had surfaced over the ground, the ceiling, and the surrounding walls, and the complex patterns within the golden light formed an extremely advanced protective array.

"Rest assured, everyone, the Nine Origins Pavilion is an extremely important location in our sect, so it's protected by its own array. Even a mid-Great Encompassment cultivator would struggle to force their way into the palace through the array, so you'll be safe in here," Elder Yu hurriedly reassured.

As soon as his voice trailed off, an even more violent explosion rang out, rocking the entire palace once again.

The golden array around the palace also trembled violently, saving the palace from the verge of collapse.

This time, it had become abundantly clear to everyone that something was very wrong, and a sense of panic was beginning to spread.

Only Immortal Envoy Feng Tian and the others remained calm and composed, continuing to chat casually among themselves as if whatever was happening outside had nothing to do with them.
