A Professor of Magic at Hogwarts -
Chapter 609: Welcome Changes - (2)
"Muggles," he sighed, "many things are not recorded in their knowledge, passed down through word of mouth, you know? Haven't you been told that prophecies are not just spoken, but—"
"Shut up, you fool." Someone in the portrait pretending to sleep couldn't take it any longer and shouted loudly.
"Not just spoken..." Felix muttered expressionlessly, pondering the meaning of these words, "What could that be? Perhaps something that needs interpretation, like tea leaves, crystal balls, star charts." The corner of his eye glanced at Headmistress Blake, who had interrupted earlier, waving a thick wand threateningly, causing him to protest.
"Or maybe brief visions? Scenes of the future?"
Felix thought of a false prophecy he had once received, a short vision, a brief memory... even though he used a time turner, who's to say that wasn't a form of prophecy? And Felix believed that this method was more reliable than formal prophecies.
He left the Headmaster's office and, as expected, saw Dumbledore return with Grindelwald.
"I've met many people during this time... do you plan to go to each one, correcting their thoughts?"
"If necessary," Dumbledore said calmly.
Grindelwald closed his mouth, watching Felix descend the stairs, stopping in his tracks.
"Reporting to the teachers? Child's play," he said, tilting his head."Simple and effective, isn't it?" Felix replied with a smile, "Sorry, but I have to go to a performance... Unfortunately, Mr. Bagshot, you can't come. I'll share my experience with you sometime, just like before."
Grindelwald glared at him fiercely.
"Felix!" Dumbledore said in a deep voice, interrupting their unfriendly exchange. He was now very worried, "Felix, for the remaining time in the summer, Mr. Bagshot will stay at the school. Please fetch his luggage."
He emphasized the surname 'Bagshot.'
"Happy to help, sir." Felix grinned, "If I run into Harry, I'll let him know that his newly-made friend won't be back for a while due to certain reasons."
Dumbledore left with Grindelwald.
He was already regretting his hasty decision; it showed obstacles from the beginning, and moreover, after the school year started, he had to ensure that Grindelwald wouldn't use the opportunity to spread dangerous ideas. He would surely have to eavesdrop on a few classes. It was a troublesome autumn, and he didn't have so much time to follow all seven grades. Grindelwald didn't have that much energy either. Perhaps hiring another Dark Arts Defense professor was a good idea...
On the other hand, Felix, of course, did not go to the performance, because today was not the day.
He rang the doorbell at Number Four, Privet Drive.
Considering the unpleasantness of his last visit, where he didn't even finish introducing himself, he put some thought into it. He changed his hairstyle, clothes, and, most importantly, wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, making him look like a professional in the business world.
The one who opened the door was the tall and portly Vernon Dursley, almost without a neck. His eyes were bloodshot, and his mental state seemed poor, as if he hadn't slept well these past few days. "What— " he shouted in a coarse voice but lowered it when he saw Felix in his expensive attire. "Hello? Are you—"
"Felix Harp, calling on you." He lifted the gift box in his hand. When Vernon saw the price tag on the gift box, his eyes slightly widened. "I have something important— um, can I come in?"
"Of course, of course," Vernon Dursley said in a friendly tone, opening the door. He greedily stared at Felix's expensive attire, "I guess— at least twenty thousand pounds, right?"
"Maybe. I didn't pay attention." Felix said casually as he walked into the house.
"Wait!" Vernon suddenly shouted behind him. His eyes with bloodshot veins seemed to be about to burst, but Felix had already entered the living room. He turned back; was he discovered?
"What's wrong?"
A thin, long-necked woman walked out of the kitchen, holding a spoon, looking puzzled. Their son Dudley Dursley was lying on the sofa, reading a comic book. The family seemed perfectly happy, except—
Comic books!
Petunia widened her eyes, appearing both scared and annoyed, facing the strange and quirky, damn comic book that moved! She stood frozen, unsure what to do. In the cramped hallway, her husband made exaggerated gestures silently, definitely not letting the guest find out! She walked quickly, trying to block Dudley behind her—although it was useless; her son was at least twice her size, probably three times her weight.
Felix handed over the gift box.
"Is that your son? What's his name?"
"Yes, yes, Dudley— Dud Dud!" Petunia's voice trembled. She found herself more desperate than when she discovered her son's little secret a few days ago.
Dudley was deeply engrossed in his book.
The comic seemed to have a magical power. Every time he flipped it open, he couldn't help but read along with the lively characters in the story. At this moment, he was enjoying it thoroughly—since he was already discovered, there was no need to hide. Little wizard Mick accidentally blew up the birthday cake prepared by his friend, and he made various efforts to find excuses.
"What's wrong?" he lazily asked, "Is it dinner time?"
There was no timely and enthusiastic response; this was abnormal.
He raised his head and saw a young man looking at him with interest. This person seemed somewhat familiar... for some reason, he thought of the Ice Mice in the magical world; the book said this snack came from the Honeydukes.
Mom had closed her eyes in pain and refused to look, and Dad—his face had turned the color of pig liver.
What's going on... Dudley suddenly widened his eyes. His book! Like a whale coming ashore, he leaped from the sofa with all his might. However, it was in vain; his body had incredible shock absorption, like a fish out of water. After floundering in place for a while, he remained on the groaning sofa.
It was his book that flew up.
Four pairs of eyes stared at the comic book as it traced a curve in mid-air, precisely hitting the elegant shoes of the guest, bouncing off. The pages on top seemed like several screens, each character happily moving with smiling faces.
After what seemed like a long time, Vernon finally came back to life. He stuttered forward to explain.
"Mr. Hap, Hap, Hap, Mr. Harp, listen to me, this book, this book—it—"
"No need to explain, I understand completely," Felix said easily, but the three people in the room looked even more terrified. "No, no, you must explain! It must be explained!" Vernon shouted loudly, arms outstretched, as if single-handedly blocking the door to prevent Felix from leaving.
"I think it's unnecessary," Felix shook his head, "Readers like my books; I'm happy about it. I didn't expect such a joyful
change after just one year of not seeing you all..."
"Readers?" Petunia asked in a low voice.
"Your book?" Vernon's small eyes widened.
"One year without seeing?" Dudley swallowed saliva.
"Yes, I thought you knew," Felix pointed with his chin at the comic book on the floor, "My name is written on it."
