A Professor of Magic at Hogwarts -
Chapter 600: Arm Support - (2)
Felix specifically concealed his identity to visit several renowned witch doctors in Africa. They possessed a magical skill of making imprecise prophecies through self-mutilation. After paying a hefty sum of Galleons, an ailing old wizard finally agreed to perform divination for him.
However, they disagreed on the subject of the divination.
The old wizard insisted on not directly using Voldemort, a powerful wizard, as the subject, stating that the "cost is too great, and the results are unreliable."
So, the divination focused on Felix—examining his luck for the day. The final conclusion was quite vague, with the old wizard cryptically stating that Felix would "receive considerable help" that day.
Felix wasn't entirely satisfied with the result, but the old wizard had started coughing up blood. Helpless, he bid farewell, considering it as getting a good omen from an authoritative figure. If Felix were to ask Trelawney, who knows what she would say in her sober state.
He didn't want to hear anything "ominous" before the decisive battle.
Felix's biggest reliance was on the various preparations he had made in advance—extracting Voldemort's magic from Death Eaters, collecting Bellatrix's hair at Malfoy Manor, and the incredibly lifelike entity serving as his surrogate invigilator.
He even held onto one last trump card.
Inspired by a house-elf, Amelia Bones had to work undercover for two weeks to piece together the ancient information from the pile of old documents, all to keep the secret as much as possible.
Felix picked up a communication mirror with a photo of Sirius on the surface—a picture taken by Harry, so most of the time, Sirius looked quite impatient, fiddling with the tassel hanging from his hat that dangled to his nose to pass the time."Sirius."
The person in the photo immediately jumped up, and after a few seconds, Sirius said with a serious expression, "Everything is ready, Kreacher is by my side." His voice sounded deep, calm, and ominous.
"I'm coming right away."
Felix said, taking a step out and appearing on the steps in front of Grimmauld Place 12.
Sirius was holding Kreacher's hand, waiting there. Sirius said in a low voice, "I've talked to Kreacher, and he knows the significance of doing this." At this moment, two crisp "crack" sounds came from the entrance, and Remus Lupin and Tonks appeared, holding hands.
"Felix?" Lupin said, "We thoroughly checked the twelve locations on the map with the detector you provided, but found nothing."
Felix nodded slightly, indicating that he understood.
A few more minutes passed, and with not much time left until the scheduled time, several groups of members from the Order of the Phoenix returned from their missions. They also found no trace of Bellatrix, and the best-case scenario was discovering evil artifacts like Felix did, containing fragments of Bellatrix's soul and Voldemort's magic.
"Is that thing really mixed with Bellatrix's soul?" Frank Longbottom asked in surprise. Upon receiving confirmation, he showed a complex and regretful expression on his face. "I know Voldemort is cruel and ruthless, but I didn't expect him to spare even his last loyal follower..."
"Alastor's group hasn't returned yet. Nothing unexpected, right?" Bill Weasley frowned.
Felix lowered his head to examine the complete map in his hands. "His status is normal; maybe he got stuck—"
At this moment, Kreacher approached Felix quietly, pulling on his sleeve. "Respected Master—C-Can Kreacher truly bear such a responsibility? Can Kreacher—Kreacher really contribute to the downfall of the Dark Lord?"
"Your role is much more significant than you imagine, and I can assure your safety," Felix said.
Kreacher looked relieved.
Sirius, with a dark face, said on the side, "I've told you so much, and you don't believe me. But with just a few words from an outsider, you trust them. Who is your true master!"
"Of course, it's you!" Kreacher replied loudly. Then, he turned around, shrugged his shoulders, and muttered in a voice audible to everyone present, "But the master did unreliable things when he was young, and was wrongly accused and thrown into prison. It's embarrassing. Who knows what mistakes he'll make this time..."
"Kreacher!" Sirius gritted his teeth. "I told you that you're just afraid of danger. Your courage is only as big as a peanut!"
"It's not! Kreacher is not afraid of danger. Kreacher is worried that he cannot avenge Master Regulus!" The house-elf shouted back with a toad-like voice to his owner.
Meanwhile, a group of people descended from the sky.
It was Moody, Mundungus, and Dedalus Diggle. Their clothes were dusty, but no one was injured. Moody, leaning on a cane, came forward and said in a rough voice, "Our group encountered a magical trap and took some time to break through... but it was empty inside." His magical eye scanned the surroundings before settling on Kreacher.
"So, we're placing our hopes on this little guy? I can't wait to see."
Lupin, Tonks, Moody, Mundungus, Dedalus Diggle, Hestia Jones, Bill Weasley, and other members of the Order of the Phoenix scattered and formed a circle, acting as guards, staring solemnly at the two figures and the house-elf standing on the steps.
Kreacher solemnly puffed up his thin chest, looking at Sirius.
Sirius took a deep breath, opened his mouth, and said:
"I, Sirius Black, the last legitimate heir of the Black family, voluntarily renounce all rights to the house-elf Kreacher. According to the ancient contract, Kreacher automatically belongs to a collateral member of the Black family—under the name of Bellatrix Black!"
"Y-Yes, Master," Kreacher trembled, bowing deeply to him.
His waist bent so low that his plump nose was tightly pressed against the ground, and a green pendant box slipped out of his loose and white pillowcase. The pendant box sparkled in the sunlight.
"Leave the rest to me." Felix's hand rested gently on Kreacher's shoulder, speaking softly.
...
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
"What are you up to, Potter?" Snape looked coldly at Harry blocking his way, his thin lips twisted into a smile. "I heard you gave up your last exam? What a crazy decision, but it's typical of you." His gaze shifted from Harry and lingered slightly on Ron and Hermione.
"The Golden Trio reunited again... Are you once again preparing to save the world? Tell me—what is it this time, Saint Potter?"
Harry was furious inside; Snape had this ability to provoke his anger with just a couple of sentences. Moreover, he seemed to bear a grudge against Draco Malfoy, and Harry hadn't forgotten who came up with the nicknames 'Saint Potter' and 'Scarhead.'
"I want your help," Harry tried to keep his tone less confrontational. "I mean 'please,' sir. I know Headmaster Dumbledore is currently dueling Voldemort—"
"These things have nothing to do with you, Potter," Snape interrupted.
Harry rushed on. "I
know you're skilled in Occlumency and Legilimency. Yes, I know, Professor Snape, Professor Snape unintentionally mentioned it. I hope—"
"You hope—" Snape crossed his arms, staring into Harry's eyes. "—what?"
"If those emotions are genuine," Harry held his breath, meeting Snape's gaze with his eyes identical to Lily's, "if you've been desiring Voldemort's downfall as well—"
Snape interrupted again, his hands hugging his shoulders, eyes fixed on Harry's. "You hope—"
"—that you'll use Legilimency on me! Break through my Occlumency shields!"
