Chapter 29: The Previous Soldier

ASHERBLACKWOOD

The giant humanoid flames stood in front of me. I thought I had destroyed it previously but here it was standing in front of me unscathed.

It through a heavy punch at me which I chose to block but the heat and the flames, burned up my clothes leaving me naked.

Here I was, standing naked against a beast made of eternal flames.

I protected my body with Essence and attacked the beast. It weaved and dodged much to my disadvantage and then hit me with a punch of it’s own sending me into the sea.

I sank to the bottom of the sea but with the essence protecting me I could still breathe.

I punched through the water so hard that it separated in two, leaving me standing on dry land.

I moved out of the water like a flash of lightning and hit the beast with immense power and precision that it went flying backwards.

It fell into the forest setting it on fire.

I stood with my chest heaving. It came at me and hit me before I could even perceive it’s presence.

This wasn’t what Radkiel told me. He said they were weaker than me and only their leader was stronger than I was.

"Godspeed."

I increased my speed to the brim with Essence and continually attacked the flaming beast but I was not able to damage it considerably in any way.

Any damage I dealt was immediately healed up by the flames.

But I didn’t give up, I kept on attacking and attacking.

Then the beast spoke. "Your efforts are futile." And then it hit me right on the face with a huge right hook which sent me flying.

I was sent flying at speeds twenty times faster than the speed of sound and hit a giant mountain which caused it to crack and crumble to the ground like a melting iceberg.

I felt the flames from a mile away as the beast walked nonchalantly towards me.

I stood up from the rubble and looked at it straight where the eyes are supposed to be.

"Why do you attack me? I’m just a traveller." I said to it, my naked body still in sight.

"You humans have been known to commit the most treacherous acts and get away with it." It replied with anger in it’s voice.

"But I-" I couldn’t finish my statement as it slapped me back to the shore in an instant.

The giant mass of flame was immediately above me and I rolled out of the way just in time. It’s flames erupted like a giant volcano, drying up the entire sea behind me.

I attacked at blinding speed but the fact that this behemoth despite it’s size was able to keep up with Godspeed was alarming.

I had to end the fight as quickly as possible.

"Oblivion."

Dark energy enveloped the flaming beast, causing it to scream and cry out in pain and anguish.

I stood there emotionless, watching it being erased.

The concept of it’s immortality had been separated from it and now it would truly die.

"Y- you won’t survive this place." The beast said and finally died.

It’s ashes erased alongside it. And then I felt Radkiel in my mind once again.

"You didn’t tell me these things were this strong." I complained without even giving him the chance to have the first word.

"I did not. But then, you were still able to grind out a favorable result so it doesn’t matter." He replied to me and I could hear the childlike happiness in his voice as he said it.

"Well there has to be a reason you’re contacting me right now so what it it?" I asked, not hiding my anger.

"I forgot to tell you that we had previously sent someone here before you but she was not able to carry out the mission." Radkiel stated.

"So you sent someone here before me? Where are they now? Are they dead?"

"No, I can still feel her presence and she is still on that planet." Radkiel explained.

"You said ’she’ so it’s a girl?" I asked him with me eyes wide with surprise.

"Yes. The moment you hear the ’she’ you should automatically know that it is a girl." Radkiel snapped at me.

"So what does she look like?" I asked. Immensely curious about the person who had been able to survive here with all the hostility towards humans.

"She’s humanoid, very beautiful, has long pointy ears and white hair with blue eyes." Radkiel said, describing her to the best of his ability.

"So let me get this straight. She’s an elf?" I asked with one of my eyebrows raised.

"Yes, she is an elf. An elf that currently needs you to save her."

I sighed. "Fine. How do I find her?" I asked.

"I don’t know. That’s your job." Radkiel said and disconnected.

"That bastard." I said to myself and kept walking towards what seemed like a City.

I stopped hid behind a huge tree near the gate and condensed my energy so that the guards at the gate wouldn’t sense me.

I covered myself with Essence to make myself invinsible to the naked eye and to other heightened senses.

I walked through the gate and into the city. It was bustling all over and the people there were all in human form.

But I already knew that they weren’t human but of the Phoenix race.

I kept on walking through the city and then my stomach grumbled. I was hungry and needed to find something to eat fast.

I stopped in front of a stall and saw some bread. I swiped one and ate it in one go so the seller wouldn’t think that something was wrong.

I walked forward but none of them could actually see me.

I kept on walking until I reached a talk building that stood at the center of the city.

"This has to be a palace of some kind." I mumbled to myself and scaled up the fence and went in.

I tried contacting Radkiel but feared it would blow my cover. I kept on walking and finally got in through the doors of the palace.

"The Lord said you should give this to the prisoner." A lady dressed up as a maid said to a guard.

He took the plate and walked off. I followed closely behind him, he opened the doors and I darted in immediately.

He looked around after feeling the breeze around him but saw nothing and then locked the door and put the key in his pockets.

"This has to be the worst day ever. I’ve been here twice today and somehow it smells worse in here than before it was washed." The guard mumbled to himself as I still walked closely behind him.

He walked up to a door and opened it with the keys and I followed him inside. Within the room, someone was seated there with her eyes looking lifeless.

She was just as Radkiel had described and here she was being fed slob.

I looked at the guard with hatred in my eyes and then smiled.

I walked up to him and snapped his neck. I knew he was a Phoenix and then condensed the energy for oblivion into my palm and used it to touch his body.

I walked up to the girl seated on the floor. I raised her up by her hand.

Then she spoke. "Wh-what do you want from me? I haven’t done anything wrong this time. Please leave me alone I didn’t do anything."

Tears streamed down her eyes. Her body shaking like someone with fever.

It angered me. I would eliminate Solaris and his entire race even if it was the last thing I did.

I took her up into my arms but she kept on shaking and kicking. "Please. I haven’t done anything wrong." She cried and her cries touched my heart.

"Don’t worry. I’m not here to hurt you. I’m here to get you out of here." I said to her thinking it would calm her down.

But it didn’t, she kept on resisting and then I thought of a name she would remember.

"Radkiel sent me to get you." I said to her and then she suddenly stopped shaking.

"He, he did?" She asked, her eyes turned to me and she looked at me not with fear but with hope.

"Yes he did. So please stop squirming around too much and let me help you." I said to her and she nodded.

The guard had left the keys on the door after he went in. I took them from the door and locked it.

I quickly ran towards the main prison door and put the key in it and openithe door.

Standing in front of me were two guards. I turned around and ran the other way and they chased me around blindly.

"Hold on." I said to her. "Godspeed."

I immediately turned around and ran towards the door at blinding speed. As soon as I was out I locked the door and then the two of us made it out of the palace as the alarm started ringing.
