A Mate For The Last Lycan -
Chapter 171: IN AND OUT OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Chapter 171: IN AND OUT OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Rose was the epitome of a pretentious person. She spent the rest of her time, with the people, talked to them and gave them small gifts. Whether it was from her jewelry collection or simply a flower that she picked.
She would stay with children to tell them exciting story, where the children’s parents would come and sit around only to listen to her story.
What she did was good to distract them from the hunger, since the food supplies were running out so quickly and people from the other city still came to ask for their share.
However, story and kindness couldn’t be eaten and they needed something real to eat. Something that could stop the growling in their stomach.
The winter had come to end and at the very least, they needed to wait until a month, before ships from the other continent could dock in their port and their money could be useful to buy food.
Yet, today, they received a bitter news that the supplies from Khaos’s ship would only last for three days. After that, there was nothing else they could eat. They couldn’t hunt, since animal couldn’t live in this continent.
And as a shifter, they needed meat more than anything else.
People became restless. Rose’s story was no longer helpful. They wanted to be fed with food, not only story that couldn’t distract their aching stomach.
"Your majesty, have you found out where alpha Khaos and alpha Rhett are?" Rose asked Dacre. He had his back against her and his broad shoulders looked tensed. Rose had this urge to massage his shoulders, but she was afraid that he would reject her again.
The last rejection was a humiliation for her.
"No." The answer was curt. He crumpled the parchment in his hand. There was must be a bad news from the report he received, but Rose didn’t have any idea what was that about, which caused the king was very riled up like this.
"About the food supplies..." Rose started and Dacre turned around to face her.
"Have you found a way to solve the problem with the food?" Dacre asked through his gritted teeth. He seemed very angry, but trying to suppress it.
"Yes. I have written to my father and he is willing to help, a few carts of food are on the way here." Rose was curious about why Dacre looked very angry, but she didn’t dare to question him. "It’s not a lot, but it will be enough for a week. If we only feed the people in this pack." She then suggested hesitantly. "I think Your Majesty needs to do the same thing, it will give you another week and quench people’s anxiety, with this, you will win the people’s heart. They will appreciate it even more. This is a momentum."
The royal family had more than enough food supplies, sharing them wouldn’t be a big problem.
"You can write to royal beta Leonard and arrange the delivery with him." Dacre waved his hand, he dismissed Rose. He threw the crumpled parchment in his hand to the fire and glared at it.
"King Dacre, is something wrong?" Her curiosity finally won, but Dacre lifted his head and looked at her sharply. The fire that reflected in his eyes looked very scary, as if it resembled the fire within him.
"Leave."
Dacre just received a report from Leonard, explaining about what had transpired between Nycta and Killian.

Zuri was in and out of consciousness. Sometime, when she woke up, she felt the pain, but some time later, she felt the cold, hot and then numbness, the cycle continued. She couldn’t keep her consciousness long enough to examine her surroundings.
At this point, she didn’t even care where she was or what they were doing to her. They had used her, harmed her, tortured her and there was nothing she could do. Even her anger and vengeance were not enough.
However, when she drifted in and out of her consciousness. She heard Khaos’s voice in her mind. Great. Now she could hear him.
Zuri was not surprised, since she used to see ’Khaos’ during her confinement. He was there, thankfully, and not her parents or Xaden. He was there to accompany her...
[Zuri...]
Again, she heard him.
[Wake up...]
[No... I am tired.]
She heard him chuckled. She could imagine he was smiling right now.
[You have slept long enough.]
[No. I want to sleep forever.]
Zuri might be dreaming, but she felt Khaos kissed her forehead. She could sense his scent with him being this close to her. He was real, because his hallucination was scentless.
After that, Zuri fell into the darkness again.
She slept for a week, before she opened her eyes and could hold onto her consciousness long enough to scan her surroundings.
She was inside a carriage, they didn’t move, but she was alone. People were talking out there, yet Zuri couldn’t hear what they were talking about. It was dark. The only light came from the fireplace, the fire danced in the darkness.
Pain pierced through her foggy mind and it concentrated on her neck. She felt like someone just slit her neck. She groaned to her pillow, trying to ease the pain. She raised her hand to touch it and felt the rough edge of it.
Probably, she groaned too loud and someone heard her because a moment later the door to the carriage opened and Khaos stepped in.
Zuri startled to see him here, she immediately scrambled away from him and this brought pain in Khaos’s eyes.
"I will not hurt you."
"You... did." Her voice was hoarse and her throat was very dry.
Khaos poured a glass of water for her. "Come here, I will ease the pain." He handed her the glass of water, in which she drank it greedily, but she still looked at him warily.
"Stay away from me."
"No. I will not. Do you remember what happened?"
Zuri touched her neck. "You marked me."
