A Mate For The Last Lycan
Chapter 146: THE RITUAL

Chapter 146: THE RITUAL

"Did Khaos give you an order?" Ezra pestered Caiden when he heard his son was not going back to the pack house with him. He was excited to know and was eager to hear that the alpha had taken back his punishment and Caiden was still his gamma, instead of Gayle.

The title was too much for a mere warrior like Gayle.

"No. I have an assignment. I have to leave." Caiden tried his hard to avoid his father, but it was not easy.

Old habit died hard.

Caiden still had this urge to get his father’s acknowledgement. It was messed up, but ever since he was little, he was doctrine to be perfect and listen to his alpha, but at the same time, he longed for his father’s approval.

Ezra would always so proud of Khaos. Ever since they were little, he would always praise Khaos for whatever he was doing and the lycan always did something amazing.

It almost felt like Khaos was his firstborn, while Caiden was his second child. Nothing he had done was enough and a little amount of attention that Caiden got from his father only made him wanted more.

"Good. Good." Ezra nodded. He patted his son’s back. "You need to finish this assignment wonderfully, so Khaos will consider to take you back to be his gamma."

What he said rubbed Caiden in the wrong way. "The assignment not from the alpha, but from Zuri." Caiden finished packing and he turned around in time to catch his father’s expression changed. "Father, stay away from her and not cause trouble with her. You don’t need to threaten her, it’s not necessary. If I knew that you would threaten her, I wouldn’t have taken her to meet you."

And after that Caiden carried his bag and then left the room. He felt so bad to talk harshly to his father, but he kept walking away.

Ezra left that afternoon to Greywolf pack and later that night, the ritual finally happened.

Elijah gathered with his fifteen magic users and Rhett stood not too far from there, while Zuri was laying down on the bed. She stared at the ceiling blankly, until Khaos entered the room and she shifted her attention toward him.

They did it in Zuri’s bedroom this time. She wanted to do it here. There was nothing much to be prepared. She only asked not to erase his memories about the ritual, though Rhett suggested for her to do it, because it could traumatize her and she might not want to do it again.

Zuri simply glared at him to shut up. He had no say on how she wanted it to be done. She was still furious at her brother.

"Khaos..." Zuri lifted her hand and Khaos walked over to hold it.

They gave the two of them a moment before Elijah reminded Khaos to step back. He could be inflicted by the curse too.

"You can start now," Khaos said calmly.

"Khaos, you will hurt yourself." This time, Bryden stepped forward to persuade him, but a single glare was enough to make them shut their mouth.

Khaos was standing too close to Zuri and he was even holding her hand. Elijah and the other magic users needed to be really careful with what they were going to do because the alpha could be affected by it if they made a small mistake.

"Do it."

And Elijah started.

Zuri was screaming when the first curse entered her body. She was restrained again, but this time it was not silver. Her body was chained to the bed and the sight of her made Khaos felt sick, though he didn’t show anything on his face.

His expression remained impassive.

Zuri thrashed her body when the second curse was inflicted. It almost felt like she was being burned. The pain from the silver chain was nothing.

And when it came for the third curse, she the burning pain disappeared, it replaced with coldness. So much cold to the point, she thought she was being drowned to the frozen lake. The pain from the cold was akin to a thousand needles that was stabbed to her skin.

It reminded her of her father.

And there he was...

Her father, standing next to Rhett. His lips quirked up. He taunted her and the voices in her head was going crazy. There were so many people talking in her head. So many voices. They were talking at the same time and Zuri felt her head was going to explode and her ears were bleeding.

She screamed and screamed and screamed even more.

Zuri lost count on how many curses she was in right now, all she could feel was the alternate between extremely hot and cold and pain, more pain... more voices.

Her father, her mother and then Xaden.

The three of them watched her suffering with glee in their eyes. They mocked her for choosing these people.

’You chose him? That lycan over me? See what he is doing to you. Are you happy being strapped to the bed for a ritual? You are being a sacrifice and you are happy?’

Xaden taunted her. Weirdly enough, Zuri could hear his voice loud and clear, despite so many voices in her head.

’You will not suffer like this if you didn’t betray us. Now, it’s a karma for you. You chose people, who treat you worse than I did. At the very least, I did not actively try to kill you. I have never put curse on you.’

Alpha Roland’s voice spoke with patient to shame her.

’I taught you better than this, Zuri. How could you be so stupid? What are you looking for from him? Love? Don’t make a fool of yourself, I raised you better than to expect love from man. What I always said, Zuri? You have to be the one, who used man for your advantage.’

Her mother looked at her with disappointment.

"Stop! Don’t talk to me! DON’T TALK TO ME!"
