Chapter 142: More Than Words ( 142 )
"A...Ah!! Father!! Mother!!"
Kyouko’s voice cracked slightly, her heart skipping a beat. Her whole body tensed.
Across the room stood Kitayama and Hanako, smiling gently as they approached the table.
"Ah, Haruki-kun. You’re dining here too?" Kitayama asked with mild curiosity.
Haruki quickly stood and bowed politely. His voice was steady, warm, and completely unshaken.
"Yes. Kyouko-san said she wanted to treat me to dinner tonight."
He turned to Kyouko with a relaxed smile, playing his role perfectly—the respectful son-in-law enjoying a rare outing with his wife’s mother.
Kyouko exhaled quietly, catching his calm and following suit.
She smiled calmly and gently, as if nothing had ever shaken her. "I’ve been feeling a bit tired lately... so I thought it’d be nice to eat out and treat Haruki-kun for once. Just some fresh air and good food."
"Oh my, how thoughtful," Hanako replied kindly, her smile soft. Then she looked at her husband. "Shall we join them?"
"Of course," Kitayama nodded.
Haruki gave a polite, friendly bow. "Please do, Mr. Kitayama, Mrs. Hanako."
But Hanako chuckled softly. "Don’t be so formal, Haruki-kun. We’ve already shared drinks with you at home, haven’t we?"
Kyouko smiled quietly at her words, her heart finally starting to settle.
Then Hanako turned to her daughter.
"Kyouko-chan?"
"Yes, Mother?" she answered softly.
"Why don’t we let your father treat all of us tonight? A proper family dinner."
Kyouko blinked once—then nodded gracefully. "That sounds wonderful."
"So, Haruki-kun," Kitayama’s voice was steady and deep. His eyes briefly flicked to Kyouko before returning to Haruki. "Your mother-in-law here... treats you well?"
Haruki smiled politely and gave a small nod. "Yes, Kitayama-san. Very well."
Kitayama simply said, "Hmm. Good." Then he turned to his daughter.
"And you, Kyouko?"
"Yes, Father?"
"You should do this more often with him. You still look a bit awkward around each other."
Kyouko lowered her eyes modestly, replying with a faint, practiced smile. "Yes, Father... I’ll try."
Haruki said nothing, playing his part perfectly.
"So... how’s work, Haruki-kun?" Kitayama continued, his tone neutral.
"Everything’s good, Kitayama-san," Haruki replied with respectful politeness. "My boss just assigned me to a new project. My schedule’s more flexible now."
"Good," Kitayama nodded once. "Don’t overwork yourself."
Hanako turned toward her daughter. "Kyouko?"
"Yes, Mother?"
"Did Satoshi or Satomi call you yet?"
Kyouko hesitated . "Ah... no. I think they’re busy. As usual."
Kitayama gave a small scoff. His voice was colder this time—displeased. "Hmph. That ungrateful son-in-law and my granddaughter... leaving the care of her own husband to her mother." His jaw tightened. "They only care about money. And work."
Hanako let out a gentle sigh and shook her head with a helpless smile. "Dear..."
"What?" Kitayama grumbled, glancing toward her. "I’m just telling the truth."
Then, turning back to Haruki: "And Haruki-kun?"
"Yes, Kitayama-san?"
"Come visit again when you have a day off." His tone was plain but final. "We’ll drink, like before."
Haruki nodded, offering a respectful smile. "Of course, Kitayama-san. I’d be honored."
Their meals arrived, steam gently rising from the plates.
The soft clinking of utensils and murmurs of other patrons faded into the background as the four of them started to eat.
Hanako leaned in slightly and used her chopsticks to gently offer a bite of her fish to Kitayama.
"Here, dear," she said softly.
Kitayama leaned forward and took the bite without hesitation, chewing slowly and nodding in approval.
Across the table, Kyouko watched the moment and smiled gently, her heart warmed. She couldn’t resist teasing just a little.
"Mother, Father... You’re still so romantic with each other~"
Hanako chuckled softly, touching her lips with a napkin.
Kitayama nodded firmly, answering without shame. "Of course." His tone was proud. He lightly gestured toward his wife. "Just look at your mother. Still beautiful."
Then, with a rare lightness in his voice, he turned his gaze to Kyouko.
"You and Keiko are lucky—you both inherited her genes. Just look at yourself." He narrowed his eyes slightly. "Forty-four years old, and you still look twenty."
Kyouko blushed, bowing her head with a graceful, modest smile.
Kitayama wasn’t finished. He gestured toward Hanako again, his voice growing a little louder, daring anyone nearby to contradict him. "And her—sixty-two. Still looks what? Forty. Smooth skin. Sharp eyes. Still has her curves."
Hanako let out a shy laugh, waving her hand. "Stop that, dear. You’re going to make the children blush."
Haruki smiled faintly, glancing at Kyouko, who was now trying to hide her embarrassment behind her teacup.
"Father..." Kyouko said softly, with affection and a quiet protest. "You’re exaggerating."
But Kitayama just shrugged, reaching for his cup of tea. "I only speak what I see."
The atmosphere was light. Haruki and Kyouko kept their roles careful and distant—for a moment, it felt like a true family dinner.
As conversations continued around the table, Haruki kept stealing glances at Kyouko.
She was beautiful.
Haruki had seen everything. Touched every inch of her skin. Felt her tremble under him. Watched her arch, heard her gasps, seen her naked—body and soul.
She was flawless. Not just sexually, but as a woman.
She took care of herself—daily skincare, stretching, quiet discipline. Not for show, but because she was proud. She exercised. She stayed soft and smooth.
And, of course, the genes helped—Kitayama wasn’t wrong.
Forty-four? She could pass for twenty-five.
And not just "young"—but dreamlike. The kind of woman a man hopes to marry... but never really expects to find.
Kyouko wasn’t just his lover. She was wife material in the purest sense.
His eyes lingered again.
Just as he was about to look away—
"Don’t fall for your mother-in-law, Haruki-kun~"
Hanako teased with a playful tone, her eyes sparkling, a small, knowing smile on her lips.
Haruki’s entire body tensed.
"A-Ah... umm... err... no... I-I wasn’t—"
He stammered, voice cracking slightly.
Kyouko lifted her gaze from her plate, her smile graceful, masking the flash of panic in her eyes.
Hanako chuckled softly, waving a hand dismissively. "I’m just teasing. But really, the way you look at her—anyone would be flattered."
Kitayama simply sipped his tea, unmoved.
Haruki swallowed hard, trying to compose himself, and managed a stiff smile. "She’s... she’s very graceful. That’s all."
Kyouko tilted her head, her eyes gentle.
Kitayama set down his chopsticks with a sharp click.
