Chapter 137: Eyes that Hide the Truth ( 137 )

In Tokyo – Harusawa Corporation Headquarters

Riiinnggg...!

Satomi glanced down at her phone, slightly annoyed at the interruption. But when she saw the name flashing across the screen, her lips curled into a soft smile.

She tapped to answer.

"Hello, Nakagawa Satomi speaking... Who is this?"

A pause—then her eyes lit up.

"Ah! Sayako!!! It’s been so long!"

Her voice changed instantly—sweet, bright, excited.

"Hmm? This afternoon?" She tapped on her calendar with perfectly manicured nails. "Let me check. Wait, ya?"

She turned toward her father, seated across the executive lounge.

"Papa?"

Satoshi looked up from his tablet. "Hmm?"

"My friend from high school wants to have lunch with me. Can I?"

He lowered his glasses slightly, eyeing her with suspicion. "Is it a man?"

Satomi giggled and leaned in, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "No~ Papa~ It’s Sayako. You remember her?"

"Oh," Satoshi’s expression relaxed. "Sayako... Mr. Harugawa’s daughter, right?"

"Yes~ You and her father were close, right?" She gave a smile full of innocence, but behind her eyes, calculation flickered.

Two major company names. One friendship that still carried weight. Satomi didn’t just meet old friends for fun.

Everything she did had value.

"So, Papa~ can I?" Satomi tilted her head playfully, her voice honey-sweet.

Satoshi gave a half-smirk and sighed."Hmm... go ahead. But don’t be too long. We have meetings this evening, remember?"

"Papa~" Satomi leaned closer and planted a quick kiss on his lips, casual and unashamed. "Don’t worry. We have the house to ourselves for two whole months, right? Since Mother will be busy in Okinawa."

Satoshi’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Yes... Just don’t be late."

He sipped his coffee, then added in a low voice, "Today I want to eat."

Satomi purred, one brow raised in a teasing grin. "Naughty Papa~ I’m going."

She turned, hips swaying slightly in her office dress as she exited the executive lounge. Her heels echoed softly across the marble floor.

Neither of them thought anything of Kyouko’s extended stay with Haruki.

To them, she was just a housekeeper now.

An obedient wife. A quiet mother.Certainly not someone Haruki would touch.

Inside Satomi’s mind:

I hope Mother will look after him properly...

After all, I don’t want him going out and finding another woman. Not while I still need him.

He’s got a good position now—and that will help me and Papa rise even further in the business world. That contract with Yamashita Corporation?

We got it because I’m Haruki’s wife. Because I carry the Nakagawa name.

She smirked, glossing her lips with a fingertip.

At least with Mother there, he won’t be able to find some random girl. He’ll feel awkward with her in the house—won’t dare make a move outside or come home late. Not with her watching.

He’ll behave.

Good thing I managed to persuade him to move into Papa and Mother’s house.

Now he can’t do anything stupid... can’t even think of divorcing me.

Not when he’s surrounded by my family. Not when it’d look bad on him.

She adjusted her designer bag on her shoulder and stepped into the elevator.

Let him work. Let him earn.

And I’ll enjoy the name.

Once Satomi arrived at the stylish café, she stepped inside with practiced grace, spotting Sayako waving excitedly from a table by the window.

"Wow!! Sayako!!"

"Kyaaa!! Satomi!! It’s been so long!" Sayako jumped up and hugged her with a bright smile.

"Yes, it really has," Satomi smiled, fixing her hair as they both sat down.

Sayako glanced past her, looking toward the café’s entrance.

"Huh? You didn’t bring the handsome guy?"

Satomi blinked. "Who?"

"Haruki-senpai!! Where is he!?" Sayako grinned, eyes wide with excitement as she looked around.

Satomi hesitated.

"...Sayako..."

"Hmm?"

"He’s my husband."

"Of course I know!!" Sayako laughed, lightly slapping the table. "Damn, you’re so lucky to have him! Back in school, he had tons of fans! Me, Sakura, even that shy junior Tomoki—everyone wanted him!"

She leaned in, eyes gleaming. "You really hit the jackpot. Handsome, tall, polite, smart. Ugh. Tell me he’s a terrible kisser at least, so I don’t die from envy!"

Satomi let out a small, polite laugh. "Well... we’re both busy, so..."

Sayako blinked. "Eh? Busy?"

Satomi shrugged casually. "You know. Work. His out-of-town project. I’m with Papa at the company. So we don’t see each other much."

Sayako tilted her head. "But you’re married."

Satomi’s smile didn’t change. "Yes. That’s just how married life is sometimes, right?"

"...Right," Sayako said slowly, then chuckled softly and took a sip of her iced coffee. "Still... I’d keep him close if I were you. Guys like that? Too rare to leave untended."

They kept chatting, the cozy hum of the café and the gentle clink of glasses creating a nostalgic atmosphere.

"So, do you remember Miss Aoyama?" Sayako laughed. "She always caught us sneaking yakisoba bread from the teachers’ fridge!"

Satomi giggled. "Oh, yes. She was scary when she caught us, but then she cried at graduation..."

Sayako grinned. "And you! You were so good at acting sweet and innocent, while dragging us into trouble!"

"Was I?"

"Totally! You even convinced Haruki-senpai to get involved in one of our schemes once, remember?" Sayako nudged her.

Satomi took a sip of her drink, her smile flickering for just a moment. "Hmm... I don’t really remember."

Sayako raised an eyebrow, but didn’t push. "Really? That time we all skipped PE and hid behind the gym? He took the blame for you then."

"...Did he?" Satomi glanced at her phone. "Feels like ages ago."

Sayako laughed, swirling her iced latte. "What? I’m just talking about how handsome he is, Satomi—don’t be so jealous~"

Satomi forced a shy smile. "I’m not jealous..."

"Hmm? Are you sure?" Sayako teased, leaning in playfully. "You keep changing the subject every time I mention him."

Satomi looked away. "It’s nothing like that. We’re married now. That kind of talk just feels weird."

Sayako leaned back, giving her a long, assessing glance. "Hmm... you make it sound more like you’re just roommates than a real couple."

Satomi gave a polite laugh and brushed it off. "You’re overthinking it."

They continued talking about work, upcoming business trips, and mutual classmates. The conversation came easily, filled with laughter—but inside Sayako’s mind, something lingered.

Did Satomi... mistreat him?

Why did she look so awkward every time Haruki-senpai was mentioned?

Satomi smiled as she stirred her drink, but Sayako could tell—it was a practiced smile. Distant and careful.

They discussed their careers, Satomi’s growing role in her father’s company. But Sayako wasn’t really listening anymore. Her thoughts kept circling back.

Haruki-senpai...

He was always calm. Quiet. A bit too mature for his age back then. And undeniably too handsome.

"So, your husband’s out of town now?" she asked casually, playing with her straw.

"Yeah," Satomi nodded. "He’s in Okinawa."

"Oh..."

Sayako sipped her drink.

Okinawa...?

Far away. Quiet. Secluded...

And he’s all alone there?

"Hey! Enough about Haruki," Satomi suddenly cut in with a teasing smile. "What about you, Sayako? Still making all the boys fall for you?"

Sayako blinked, then smirked playfully. "Not much. Still single."

She twirled her straw, hiding the faint glint in her eyes.

Okinawa...
