Chapter 55: Chapter 54: Second Trial

The head of the Lord fell to the ground with a crushing thud, the sound reverberating throughout the Golem Sanctuary. Zoey stood over the remains of the Lord, watching it disappear in a golden light, soft particles leaving its body.

"Ha...ha..." Breaths of exhaustion left Zoey’s throat as she gazed at the remains of the Lord, watching it disappear with a stressed expression, her teeth grit, her body tense with hope, her grip on her blades tightening. Knuckles turning white.

’Please...tell me I got the drops! Loot from Lords is way more valuable than from bosses! Especially when they’re not equally distributed among members of a party.’ Zoey thought, her heart beating faster.

After a few seconds of unbearable silence, the notification she had been waiting for finally echoed in her ears.

"Jackpot!!!" Zoey screamed in triumph, clenching her fist as she brought her arm down in celebration, an extremely excited laugh escaping her lips. A huge wave of happiness and accomplishment washing over her like a tidal wave, Zoey couldn’t help but express her joy.

’I did it! I took down a C-Rank Dungeon by myself!’ Zoey contemplated with a proud smile. She was feeling very proud of herself for coming this far; her power was only going to keep growing, and Zoey was looking forward to it.

’Let’s check out the Skill Books. The Cores and the rest of the materials will be used to level me up after I’m done with tonight’s Trial.’ Zoey nodded to herself, storing away her two swords in her [Inventory] before taking out the first book, [Runes Of Power].

The book appeared in her hands, its cover red, with golden ornaments spread all over it. The book also possessed runes, which were commonly seen on the Golems of the Golem Sanctuary, a deep hum of power emanating from its presence alone.

’A B-Rank Skill book...’ Zoey couldn’t help but gulp a little. The power that awaited her was immense, as Skill Books from B-Rank and above were considered to be extremely valuable. Not only because of their rare drop rate but also because of how extremely powerful the Skills from B-Rank Skill Books were.

’Let’s see...’ Zoey thought as the information of the Skill Book flashed in front of her eyes, a small window of her system popping up in the form of a notification.

[Description: This Skill forms powerful runes all over the user’s body, which boosts all stats, except Agility, to great heights.]

’Woah! So this is what the Golems were using. No wonder they were so tough to crack; I basically had to use all my attack-boosting skills to damage them.’ Zoey thought excitedly, not even thinking twice as she opened the book and began to absorb the Skill into her arsenal.

’Hehe, another great skill to my arsenal!’ Zoey thought with a determined, but also very excited, expression, a small smile forming on her lips.

’I’m already stepping into the realms of B-Rank Skills. I just know for a fact that if this skill gets leveled up to the max, I’ll be an even greater force in battle.’ Zoey thought. ’If B-Rank Skills that are maxed out are as powerful as I think they can be, how much more powerful will an A-Rank Skill be?’

Zoey thought of the possibilities, an excited giggle escaping her lips. Her journey had just started not too long ago, but she was already making significant, if not terrifying, amounts of progress.

’Being able to level up a hundred times faster than anyone else is certainly a cheat for me, as Hunters, after reaching B-Rank, have a very difficult time leveling up, as the amount of experience needed to level up becomes extremely hard to accumulate, even with an abundant amount of Cores.’

Zoey thought before shaking her head. ’But I don’t have to worry about that, as such a limitation won’t apply to me. Everything is a resource that can take me further in my leveling journey. I can’t wait to see the look on their faces once they see just how much of a "Prodigy" they lost, heh.’

Zoey thought with a dark gleam in her eyes, her thoughts drifting to her family’s faces. She put the thought aside as she took out the last Skill Book, [Equivalent Exchange], the notification of the book’s information flashing in her view.

[Description: This Skill allows the user to sacrifice their Vitality and Defense for a massive increase in Strength and movement speed.]

’.....’ Zoey’s eyes widened for a moment before narrowing again in deep contemplation. She turned her head to look at the place where the Lord was lying, its body gone as it evaporated in golden particles, nowhere to be found.

’So this is what the Lord was using, heh, I was right.’ Zoey thought, grinning as she immediately absorbed the book, adding it to her arsenal of Skills.

’With these two skills...’ Zoey thought, looking over her shoulder at the swirling light of the dungeon entrance. She wanted to test the abilities on more monsters, wanting to challenge another dungeon again just for the sake of experimentation, but she decided against it.

’Clearing more dungeons is just a waste of valuable experience. I’ll raid another dungeon once my leveling condition has been lifted. For now, I’ll head back to the Raging Phoenix Guild and take on the Trial. I’m certain I’ll be able to clear it with these two new Skills and the [Stone Carved Shields] I managed to gain during this dungeon.’

With that, Zoey started to make her way out of the dungeon, turning around to walk towards the dungeon entrance. She glanced around the Golem Sanctuary; the place was ruined.

The floors were unevenly cracked, rubble lay spread out, the scent of dust filling the air. Zoey didn’t care much, though, as she had come here to clear the dungeon, and now her job was finished.

’All that’s left is to survive the Trial.’

The door to Zoey’s room opened as she pushed it open, a blissful sigh escaping her lips as she entered and leaned against the door of her room. Shortly after arriving back at the guild, turning in some of the rewards from the Golem Sanctuary, and receiving her payment, Zoey decided to have a bite at the guild’s cafeteria.

After clearing the dungeon, Zoey had finally realized just how hungry she was. Today had been an extremely busy day, and yet she forgot to eat.

’I’m honestly surprised that I didn’t even feel the hunger from my battles. I swear I almost fell face-first shortly after taking a step out of the portal of the Golem Sanctuary. Is my adrenaline the cause of this?’ Zoey thought, raising a brow as she glanced at her stomach, placing a hand on the surface of her hoodie.

’Now then...I’m all ready for the second Trial.’ Zoey thought, opening up her Status Window as she gazed at her information.

During her way of making it back to the guild, Zoey had taken the task of absorbing the remaining [Runes Of Power] and [Equivalent Exchange] Skill Books, to increase the levels of her Skills.

’Although I didn’t have the chance to test these skills during a dungeon raid, I’ll have plenty of opportunities to test them within the second Trial.’ Zoey thought, finally pushing herself off the door.

’My clothes...this won’t do..I need to change.’ Zoey thought with a sigh, glancing at her clothes which were in bad condition. She couldn’t go facing the second Trial like this, as she feared that worse things could happen to her clothes, and she’d wake up without any in the real world.

Assuming she survives of course.

Zoey quickly made her way into the bathroom and took a quick shower, coming out to change into another set of clothing that was similar to the ones she wore before.

’I can’t go in there with pajamas...that’d be so weird.’ She thought, as she climbed into bed. Zoey didn’t pull the covers over herself, as that would just make her sweat with the additional heat.

She lied there for a few minutes, staring at the ceiling, her eyelids feeling heavy as she closed them, and soon.....drifted off to sleep.

Tick tick tick....

Zoey’s body began to glow in a warm blue light, before finally.....

Dissapearing.
