A Good Country Wife
Chapter 201 A Touch of Pride_1

Chapter 201: Chapter 201 A Touch of Pride_1

Zhao Erhu felt that his little wife really didn’t need to be shy; these past days, he had taken quite a few liberties with her. Though he hadn’t gone all the way yet, he had touched everything he should—and shouldn’t have—mostly under the cover of darkness. In the daylight, the little wife was more easily embarrassed and adamantly refused to let him touch her. Of course, he was supposed to prioritize his duties now, but after handling official matters, there was no harm in mixing business with a bit of pleasure, especially since such opportunities were rare. He had to make the most of it.

"Zhao Erhu, you’re not allowed to touch there, it’s so ticklish, hee hee." The young girl was both delicate and bashful.

"Zhao Erhu, if you keep this up, I’m going to get angry." Her voice was already somewhat breathless.

"Zhao Erhu, you jerk! Dishonest old man." She was already enraged, but her tone clearly...

After examining Lin Yue, Zhao Erhu came out of the room, with a hint of satisfaction. Lin Yue’s face was flushed with a hint of bashfulness, and her legs were a bit wobbly. Her moist and rosy lips were even more red, obviously having been tasted by someone. The young girl, in the end, couldn’t resist the experienced old man and was nearly swallowed whole by the wolf.

"Wife, be careful, don’t fall. Your husband will support you."

"Pretending to be decent, old lecher, shameless." Lin Yue gave him a glare, rejecting someone’s feigned kindness, and in a fit of annoyance and embarrassment, she cursed, but after all the cursing, there were only so many words she could say. Zhao Erhu had already grown calluses on his ears from hearing them so much; the little wife was too unoriginal.

Upon seeing Zhao Erhu and Lin Yue like this, Zhao Dahuo and his wife knew damn well that the couple had made up, and with that, this incident would pass, and now all was well.

"Yueyue, I thought you and Brother Erhu were going to fight when I saw you two just now; it scared me to death. Now that I see you both coming out looking so close, I’m relieved. That eldest sister-in-law of yours really likes to stir up trouble, doesn’t she? She seems happy when you and your husband are at odds. Don’t stoop to her level. I think Brother Erhu is pretty good to you; titles and such aren’t that important in our rural place."

Chunxi, upon seeing Zhao Erhu and Lin Yue come out looking so affectionate, had a flash of jealousy on her face, but she quickly masked it. She had seen everything that had happened, and her eyes held a mix of unclear intent, pity, and a touch of sympathy when she looked at Lin Yue, making Lin Yue feel quite uncomfortable.

Living such a miserable life herself, not knowing if she could have a full meal without her help, what right did this woman have to pity her? Ridiculous. Seeing Chunxi’s odd behavior, Lin Yue grew even more displeased. Had she been blind before to think such a woman could become her good friend, or had Chunxi changed too quickly?

Lin Yue had no intention of stooping to Chunxi’s level, but upon seeing Chunxi absent-mindedly gazing at Zhao Erhu, a fire ignited in her heart. She looked towards Chunxi with a smile, "Chunxi, I know you’re kind-hearted. You don’t need to worry about me. Whether status is important or not, I don’t know, but my household registration has long been handled by the government. I am Erhu’s rightful wife, and Erhu has indeed been very good to me. His elder sister was just confused before, but Erhu has already cleared things up with me. He said he would take me to the government to confirm it so I can be completely at ease. He also said that in this lifetime, he will only have me and will never leave nor forsake me. It’s hard to find such a good man, even with a lantern, and just my luck, I met him." Lin Yue said, deliberately adding a touch of pride.

After Lin Yue finished speaking, she saw Chunxi with an expression that could barely hide her jealousy, and Lin Yue felt even more delighted. Chunxi, a shameless woman who had lost her wits from wanting a man, her own man was gone, and she dared to covet another’s husband—simply unforgivable. Lin Yue felt like slapping her into the air, so brazen.

Zhao Erhu was not pleased with Chunxi’s behavior in front of Lin Yue either. Was she really worried, or was she trying to sow discord, to drive a wedge between him and his young wife? She had no good intentions.

He had always thought Chunxi was a schemer, but since his young wife liked her, he hadn’t interfered. His young wife was alone most days, except when interacting with Sister Chunhua, and it seemed too lonely. Having a friend was always a good thing. He wanted to remind his young wife to be cautious, but didn’t want her to feel he was being too controlling, so he let it be. But deep down, he was truly worried. Fortunately, the zongzi incident had exposed Chunxi’s true colors, so there was no need to worry about his young wife being deceived in the future. Otherwise, if his young wife had been hurt, he would have had to take the trouble to comfort her.

After being berated by Lin Yue, Chunxi became silent, quietly going about her work. Her mother-in-law noticed Chunxi’s demeanor and frowned. As someone who had been through it all, she recognized the signs. Though it was her son’s fault for disappearing without a trace as soon as he left, and for failing to send word for years, she felt guilty towards her daughter-in-law. However, this did not mean she would allow her daughter-in-law to entertain such shameless thoughts, wanting to betray her son, to make him a cuckold—if she, as the mother-in-law, did not agree to it.

After Zhao Erhu pushed Chunxi out the door, Lin Genfa covered her mouth and walked a long way before letting go of Zhao Yunxiang. True to form, Zhao Yunxiang unleashed a torrent of curses, more vulgar than ever due to the mix of pain and rage.

Lin Genfa felt helpless and simply let Zhao Yunxiang vent to her heart’s content, while Lin Xiaoxiang and Lin Youyin were quite speechless about their mother’s behavior, silently following behind the adults. Lin Youjin, probably realizing the extent of his mischief which had led to his mother fighting and getting kicked out by his uncle, was especially obedient and well-behaved in front of his father, Lin Genfa, and his elder brother, Lin Youyin, no longer misbehaving or throwing tantrums.

After venting her frustrations, Zhao Yunxiang felt much better. Seeing her beloved youngest son so well-behaved and following behind his older brother and sister, with a look of fear and grievance, she assumed Lin Youyin and Lin Xiaoxiang had ganged up to bully her little brother. Annoyed, and remembering the incident at Zhao Erhu’s house, she didn’t have the heart to scold her eldest son and instead slapped Lin Xiaoxiang across the face—her own daughter, whom she could discipline however she pleased. Worthless, she thought, unable to even take care of her brother.

"Mother, Xiaoxiang is also your biological daughter; you can’t treat her like this," Lin Youyin protected his sister, Lin Xiaoxiang, behind him.

"Zhao Yunxiang, what are you doing? This is getting more and more excessive. You have no reason to start hitting the children. Xiaoxiang hasn’t spoken a word the whole way. What’s got you angry again? You don’t act like a mother at all." Although Lin Genfa favored his son, he was not as biased as Zhao Yunxiang and still cared for his daughter, Lin Xiaoxiang.
