Chapter 963: Chapter 665: No Entry for Idlers Chapter 963: Chapter 665: No Entry for Idlers “All right, everyone, we all know why we are here,”
The warrior gazed at everyone before him with a solemn and earnest expression.
“An explosion of unknown origin occurred in the Lost Ground, and now we are going to investigate what exactly happened there. I think you all are well aware of that.”
“By the Stone, that explosion almost buried our clan’s old den! My clanspeople are still digging through the rocks, and if I find out who did this, I’ll smash their head and let them know how terrifying a Dwarf’s anger can be!”
The Dwarf, angry, waved his battle axe loudly in complaint. His movements were so vehement that the others nearby all kept their distance from this frenzied Dwarf, fearing that his axe might accidentally strike them.
“I must find out who did such a heinous act!”
“According to the intelligence we’ve received, it was a tall figure clad in fearsome Armor, known as the Steel Demon,”
The Elf Ranger standing on the other side whispered, gripping her longbow tightly, her expression stern.
“If the intelligence is true, then we might face dangers beyond our imagination,”
“Are you talking about a crisis like that of Hell Gate Fort?”
The Mage added, and the Elf’s expression turned a bit awkward, but she nodded slightly anyway.
Hell Gate Fort could be considered one of the dark histories of the Supreme Forest. The story goes way back when the Supreme Forest was exclusively Elf territory, and these Elves were not as pure and prideful as humans imagined. They were just like their distant relatives, the Aida Spirit Tribe, catching whatever they could — essentially, it was relentless, regardless of the race, day or night, everywhere — otherwise, where do you think all those Half-elves across the continent came from?
Certainly not sprouting from the cracks in the Stone!
Half-elves have almost become a race of their own, whose fault is that?
If not for the Giants being too large to handle, those damned Elves might even have bred a Half-elf Giant!
The consequence of being irresponsible was that Devils took human forms to blend in and threw grand parties with the Elves, which then led to the birth of a race known as the Demon-Born Elves. Unlike Half-elves, though they had Devil’s blood running through their veins, they appeared no different from ordinary Elves. However, these Demon-Born Elves knew their fates from birth, so they disguised themselves as ordinary Elves, while they desecrated the forest, following the desires of their fathers far back in Hell.
Eventually, they seized the opportunity of an Elf festival to open a Teleportation Portal to Barto Hell at a fort, unleashing a horde of Devils who wreaked havoc. The disaster almost spread across the entire Northern Land, and it was only through the concerted efforts of many that the Devils were driven back to Barto Hell, and Hell Gate Fort was permanently sealed off.
After that incident, the Demon-Born Elves were exiled, and the Elves, having suffered a great loss due to the battle at Hell Gate Fort, finally understood the dangers of irresponsibility. They then began to isolate themselves and engage in closed relations solely among their kind.
Of course, as time went by, most short-lived races had long forgotten the reckless antics of the Elves that caused the disasters; most legends only recounted that some Elves were seduced by Devils and then opened the Teleportation Portal that led to the tragedy — exactly how they were corrupted is never mentioned.
Only the Elves themselves still remember that tragic dark history, which is why the Elven race now behaves as chaste as nuns in a monastery.
At least when someone asks, “Weren’t Elves like street prostitutes who’d differ at a glass of wine?” they could hold a bead and chant “Amitabha Buddha, monks do not speak lies, benefactor, I do not understand what you’re saying…”
Well, at least they could feign innocence, right?
Of course, for the Elves, this is an unbearable dark history, so even if others don’t know about it, whenever someone mentions that history, they reflexively… well, it’s a kind of self-mental defense, much like a reformed bar girl deleting all contact numbers from her past in her phone to pretend nothing ever happened. It’s understandable.
“To those who have come here, I believe everyone’s very familiar,”
The warrior scanned the crowd.
“You all are renowned adventurers of the Northern Land, oh, and there are these four… They are the heroes who saved Neverwinter City and have just successfully returned from the Dark Region!”
As he spoke, the warrior stretched out his hand to point at the four individuals beside him, namely Amelia, Kasim, Roxia, and Luganis.
“Wow, good to see you’ve come too.”
Upon seeing the four, the other adventurers were quite surprised; they were all well-known adventurers, but those who had saved a city were few. At this point, they all applauded warmly, while Amelia and the others hastily reciprocated.
“And finally, the representative from Deepwater City, the Priest from the Heim Temple, Dorfen… ”
“……”
When a man clad in iron armor, holding a War Hammer, came up to greet everyone, the atmosphere, which had been lively, went quiet immediately. Many of the adventurers silently stared at the Heim Priest with displeasure, and even Amelia and her group quietly stepped back a few steps.
