The beasts that once lived in these regions were completely warped and altered by an evil force, turned into grotesque, twisted, and almost lifeless entities.
And now…
“Take us to see.”
The Sacred Knight urgently composed himself, sheathed Longsword, and looked to the Hobbit Wanderer who nodded, then began to lead them with sprightly hops and jumps toward the depths of the wilderness.
Led by the Hobbit, the adventurers passed through the nearby woods and came upon high ground nearby, then they lay flat on the ground and looked ahead in the direction the Hobbit pointed.
“You see, it’s over there.”
As he spoke, the Hobbit pointed ahead, and when the group raised their heads, they beheld a sight beyond imagination.
Not far below the highland was a heap of ruins, which appeared to be the remnants of a former temple. And now, upon these remains stood hundreds of Kobolds, clutching their crude weapons, yelling and shouting excitedly. In front of them stood a Kobold Wizard with feathers on its head, waving its arms and hopping about, calling out loudly.
“God, grant, strength!”
“We, happy!”
“Happy!! Hiss!!”
Under the leadership of the wizard, the Kobolds also began to shout loudly. Then the Kobold Wizard turned, facing the ruins of the Temple, and knelt to the ground.
“God! Grant, strength!!”
“Thud… Thud… Thud…”
Soon, a deep sound of footsteps echoed, and the adventurers saw a tall figure emerge from the ruins of the Temple. It was as tall as a giant, clad in dark green armor that looked thick and sturdy, dirty too. Moreover, the abdomen of the Steel Warrior was protrudingly round, as if bloated.
The whole armor was smeared with rotting flesh and blood, and many flies buzzed around it, as though the warrior before them was a walking piece of decaying meat.
Silent and wordless, he approached the group of Kobolds, and under his eerie gaze, the Kobolds had begun to tremble uncontrollably, instinctively bowing their heads and kneeling to the ground.
Suddenly, the bizarre Green Armored Warrior raised his arm, and in the next instant, as he motioned, countless flies buzzed out of his body, encompassing the Kobolds completely. The insects mercilessly tore through the Kobolds’ skin and burrowed into their bodies. Soon the Kobolds began screaming loudly, rolling on the ground in agonizing pains that were unimaginable.
The scene before them, reminiscent of hell itself, filled the adventurers with terror. But what followed was even more unbelievable to their eyes.
The bodies of the originally short, weak Kobolds began to swell. Clumps of rotting flesh bubbled up from their bodies like sponges, expanding rapidly. In the blink of an eye, the frail creatures had transformed into walking fat pigs, their bodies still covered in sores and blood. The wounds did not heal but were torn and stretched in the swelling process, with the rotted flesh spilling out like tattered cotton – then, waves of maggots fell pouring out.
“Ugh—-!”
The Mage covered her mouth, turning her head away, and the others were not much better off. They had never witnessed such a desecration, such a horrific, such a nauseating spectacle.
“What in the world is that creature? Is it a demon from Hell?”
“A Devil cannot stay on the prime material plane for long, but…”
As she spoke, the Mage lifted her head again, looking down below. But just then, they saw the Green Armored Warrior lift a square and upright Black Box in their direction.
“What is—-”
“Bang!!”
Before the Mage could comprehend what was happening, a booming explosion rang out, and her head burst open like an apple. The headless corpse swayed, then fell backward.
“We’ve been spotted, run!”
The adventurers didn’t even have time to mourn their comrade; in the next instant, they turned and ran. Their only mission now was to escape this place and report everything they had seen. Only by doing so could they hope to stop the evil that swept over these lands!
“Thud, thud, thud—-”
However, they soon heard the sounds of demonic footsteps coming from behind them.
“It’s catching up!”
They glanced back and saw the towering dark green figure had already crested the hillside and was charging toward them. Its speed was so fast that they couldn’t react in time.
“Damn it!!”
Soon, another Barbarian Warrior seemed unable to bear running anymore. He spun around, raised his two-handed sword, and charged toward the green giant, shouting the name of his Guardian God. But the next moment, with a thunderous explosion, the Barbarian’s body was riddled through, turned into a pile of flesh scattered on the ground, while the green giant continued forward, stepping over what was left of him.
