Chapter 776 - Chapter 776 Chapter 552 Must Pump Water _1
Chapter 776: Chapter 552 Must Pump Water! _1 Chapter 776: Chapter 552 Must Pump Water! _1 Dealing with these monsters didn’t take up much time.
Strictly speaking, Mary tends to lose her nerve only when faced with humanoid enemies. Against non-humanoid monsters, she charges straight in, slashing away with her Magic Shining Sword before finishing with a flurry of attacks from the Kalya Great Sword. In no time, she had broken the metallic beast down into scraps.
It’s clear that hero training in the Hero Cemetery was no waste of time. However, her hesitation when dealing with human opponents was a problem.
As for those two old men…honestly, how much trouble could two beings, barely different from zombies and unable to appear during the day, possibly cause for Duanmu Huai?
In short, as Glaki’s avatar emerged from the lake, Duanmu Huai issued a command. Mary was the first to charge into battle. To Duanmu Huai, her bravado seemed more like an attempt to avoid the old men, rather than a genuine attempt to save the victims. After all, without taking on the boss herself, Duanmu Huai had no reason to let her fight the old men.
Duanmu Huai had genuinely wanted Mary to face those two.
Many times, the Tribunal didn’t face just monstrous beasts–it was often the seemingly innocent ones, like a kindly old man or a gentle maiden, that were the real threat. Duanmu Huai believed that it wouldn’t be too hard for Mary to discern the inhuman nature of the two old men, if only she’d pay closer attention.
But that would require a gradual shift in her thinking.
Since Mary was tasked with taking down Glaki’s avatar, the responsibility of dealing with the two old men fell to Lorena. As an experienced demon-slaying priest, Lorena was more than capable of handling it. In fact, before one of them, the man named Williams, could even fully register what was happening, she had struck him down with the Holy Canon. He was rendered lifeless once again.
The other old man and their two servants fell just as quickly.
Ineffectual as zombies, they were barely worth Lorena’s time–she’d faced goblins tougher than them.
As for the unfortunate sacrificial victims, of course, they were saved–albeit knocked out from sheer terror. This was for the best. At least they were spared the mental trauma that would inevitably lead to a complete SAN value collapse.
Glaki’s avatar was laughably weak. It was only good at manipulating dreams and turning corpses into zombies. It was so slow, it made a tortoise look fleet-footed. Mary could have simply stood from a distance, casting Magic Shining Swords at it until it dropped. This pitiful smorgasbord was hardly worth mentioning.
“This is our target.”
Walking along the lakeshore, he looked down at the bodies–one of which, judging by Jacob’s earlier description, should be his friend Abraham. The other body, with its golden hair and ordinary face, matched the description of the young man they were looking for–James.
Indeed, the curse of Miskatonic University Students was a death sentence. The lucky ones simply died–the truly unfortunate were transformed into monsters. A tragic, yet not unexpected conclusion.
“So…Mr. Duanmu, are we done here?”
Mary, having taken down Glaki’s avatar, approached timidly, looking at Duanmu Huai with the uneasy expression of a student who just cheated on an exam. Clearly, she realized she had taken the easy way out.
“Heh, I’ll settle the score with you later.”
Duanmu Huai glanced at Mary, his light chuckle causing her to tremble like a student caught cheating on an exam. She lowered her head immediately.
“Anyway, let’s call the Foundation first.”
True to form, the Foundation responded swiftly. Before long, helicopters and ambulances arrived to take away the two unlucky sacrificial victims as well as the still-unconscious Jacob. They’d awaken in a hospital somewhere, fed an official story and urged to move on with their lives. Their memory would, of course, be tampered with, but Duanmu Huai wasn’t concerned with that detail.
Duanmu Huai didn’t leave everything to the Foundation this time, like he did in Miguel.
The reason was simple.
What Mary destroyed was merely Glaki’s “avatar”, essentially a doppelganger. The creature’s true form was still at the bottom of the lake!
This meant that the Ancient Dominator was still very much alive!
How could he possibly leave?
Duanmu Huai made sure to mention this to the Foundation personnel who arrived.
“So, you’re saying…the creature is still at the bottom of the lake?”
“Correct.”
The Foundation representative fell silent for a moment after hearing Duanmu Huai’s words.
“I apologize, could we verify that?”
“If you have a death wish, be my guest.”
Regardless of Duanmu Huai’s warning, the Foundation dispatched divers to investigate the lake.
And that was the last of them. What made these humans think that they could face the Ancient Dominators?
“Do you have a plan?”
After the disappearance of three or four divers in succession, the Foundation representative begrudgingly sought Duanmu Huai’s help.
“Isn’t it simple, can you afford to wait it out? Just drain the lake.”
This was why Duanmu Huai had called for the Foundation. If it was as easy as simply disposing of the ruins in Antarctica, he would have done it himself. But beneath the lake was an alien city formed on a meteorite, a potential cash cow. He’d leave the tedious task of draining the lake to the endlessly wealthy Foundation.
The Foundation ultimately chose to heed Duanmu Huai’s advice and began draining the lake.
Draining an entire lake was no easy feat, not to mention halting its source–however, for a massive entity like the Foundation, such tasks were routine. First, heavy machinery was deployed to block the stream leading to the lake, then dozens of large water pumps worked in concert, spewing torrents of water into the adjacent woods.
Though the process wreaked havoc on the surrounding environment, there was no other choice at the moment.
As the lake’s water level slowly dropped, the things that were submerged in its depths naturally started to surface. First were the cars – conspicuously enough, these were likely the vehicles of previous victims, later pushed into the lake by the two old men to hide the evidence. Then came the aquaplants and an intense stench of fishiness…
What followed were swirling spires and a plethora of eerie alien architecture.
And numerous alien corpses… and there, trapped in the midst, was a distorted and terrifying figure.
“It’s the one, I’ll be right back.”
Duanmu Huai didn’t even give the Foundation’s representative a chance to react before he leaped into the fray right after saying this!
“Boom!!!”
The burly man descended from the sky like a meteorite, tearing through the barrier imprisoning the monster and plunging into its lair. Seeing Duanmu Huai, Glaki had quite the shock.
But Duanmu Huai didn’t give it any time to recover.
“Go to hell monster!”
Face to face with Glaki, Duanmu Huai roared. Extending his hands, he firmly grasped the metallic spikes protruding from Glaki’s body, ripping them straight off. He then swung these spikes towards Glaki’s eyes with all the force he could muster!
“—————-!!!”
Unlike its clone, Glaki’s original body, as an Ancient Dominator, naturally possessed a great deal of strength. In the instant its eyes were pierced, a massive psychic storm centred on Glaki violently erupted, generating popping sounds in the surrounding air akin to firecrackers. Had it been a mere human hearing Glaki’s agonized scream, their head would surely explode, however………
“Begone!!!”
In an instant, a terrifying sense of dread, far more potent than the psychic storm, descended from above like a hammer, easily crushed Glaki’s psychic storm and heavily struck its body. The unfortunate Ancient Dominator was paralyzed by this sudden onslaught of fear, rendering it entirely immobile!
[Glaki failed the sanity check!]
[Glaki received 1D10 sanity damage]
[Glaki is frightened]
[Glaki is in a state of utter terror!]
[Glaki has lost control of itself!]
……………
What the hell?
How did even an Ancient Dominator get its sanity reduced?
Just what am I in your eyes!
Dumbfounded at the system alerts in front of him, Duanmu Huai didn’t know what to say. He could get over it if it was Deep Diver Void Ghost Miguel, but you’re an Ancient Dominator! You should be on the giving end of sanity damage, not the receiving one!
Is this really okay?
Well, whatever… time for you to die!
Duanmu Huai had no intention of letting this creature live.
The very next moment, Duanmu Huai quickly extended his hand, gripping Glaki’s mouth. With a roar, the muscles on his arms bulged as he ruthlessly tore Glaki’s mouth into two, cleaving its body right down the middle.
“Boom———-!!!”
The black flames erupted at that instant, Glaki’s body was swallowed by the conflagration, along with the strange alien corpses around it, leaving no trace behind.
Hmm… Just playing it safe. After all, who knows if there were any alien viruses or the like inside these alien corpses. Better to clean up thoroughly just in case.
However, something Duanmu Huai didn’t expect was happening not far from him.
“Sigh………”
Sitting in the truck, Mary wore a dejected expression. She indeed knew that she was wrong, but the thought of Duanmu Huai punishing her filled her with unease. She knew Duanmu Huai was quite serious about many things and now that she had joined the Tribunal, she wondered what the punishment would be. Yikes!
Just as Mary was pondering this, she suddenly felt a burning sensation in her lower abdomen, as if something had scalded her, causing her to jump up instinctively.
“Miss Mary? What happened to you?”
Seeing Mary’s strange reaction, Lorena, puzzled, asked.
“Oh, it’s nothing. I need to leave for a bit, excuse me…”
While speaking, Mary hurriedly escaped from the truck and rushed to the bathroom. Carefully, she lifted her shirt to check her lower belly, and then… Mary froze.
On her smooth lower belly, a strange mark made of a skull and hammer conspicuously stood out!
Next to it a heart-shaped pattern!
Seeing this, Mary froze entirely.
“What is this?”
