A Core Ship From The Start
Chapter 771 - Chapter 771 Chapter 550 The Mysterious Lake_1

Chapter 771: Chapter 550: The Mysterious Lake_1 Chapter 771: Chapter 550: The Mysterious Lake_1 Although Duanmu Huai said so, unfortunately, nothing happened that night–it was a very peaceful one.

The next morning, everyone gathered on the truck again and started to report their findings.

“Although we didn’t find any oddities, there were strange sounds beneath the floor…”

Mary seemed a bit uneasy.

“Sounds?”

“Yes, it felt like something writhing beneath the floor. It was very unsettling. Lorena and I investigated the room, and we found…”

At this point, Mary glanced at Lorena, who nodded in agreement.

“We found a secret door in the room’s floor.”

“A secret door?”

“Yes, under the carpet. If it wasn’t for your instruction, Mr. Duanmu, we probably wouldn’t have found it.”

“Have you tried to open it?”

“We couldn’t open it from our side…”

“Hmm…”

This is starting to feel like a B-grade slasher horror movie.

Of course, if those old fellas are really murderers, Duanmu Huai isn’t afraid. It’s not yet clear who will end up killing whom.

Just then, suddenly, everyone heard a commotion outside the window. Curiosity piqued, they looked out to see a bespectacled young man angrily glaring at an old man named Williams who was standing in the hotel entrance–Williams simply crossed his arms, looking impatient.

The young man, on the other hand, was glowering at the older man and shouting loudly.

“You say you don’t know if he stayed here, but I want to tell you, I know for certain he stayed here, he told me so himself!”

“Please calm down, sir. We have guests here who need their rest.”

Williams seemed a bit dissatisfied with the young man’s flurry of angry words.

“Rest? Here? What about the strange noises coming from the room underneath at night? Who can sleep with that? Tell me now, which room did he stay in?!”

“I told you, I don’t know.”

Visibly annoyed, Williams responded to the young man’s persistent questions.

“So quit bothering me, or get out of my hotel!”

With that, Williams turned around and went inside the hotel, while the young man angrily stomped off towards the side of the hotel.

Witnessing this scene left everyone in shock, while Duanmu Huai just let out a cold laugh.

“It seems that more than one or two people have disappeared here.”

Saying this, Duanmu Huai got off the truck.

“Let’s go and talk to that young man.”

Under Duanmu Huai’s lead, everyone left the truck and went to the other side of the hotel. The young man who had been arguing with Williams was standing nearby, looking at the distant lake and forest, grumbling angrily. Duanmu Huai walked over, tapping him on the shoulder, which made the young man turn around in irritation.

“Who are you? Didn’t you see I was… whoa! What kind of monster are you?”

“Who are you calling a monster!”

Looking at the young man, who was so frightened his face turned white and who almost fell on his backside, Duanmu Huai’s face darkened.

“We’re also guests staying here. We heard your argument with Williams, so we thought we’d come over to chat.”

“You, what do you want?”

“From what I gathered, you’re here looking for someone?”

“Uh…”

Faced with Duanmu Huai’s question, the young man was visibly nervous. However, after some hesitation, he revealed why he was there.

His name was Jacob Trent, and he was staying in room eight. He had come here in the hope of meeting his friend, Abraham Hickey, who should have arrived several weeks earlier. Furthermore, the previous night, before Jacob had arrived, Abraham had phoned to say he had checked in.

“But when you arrived, you didn’t find him?”

“Correct. I asked Williams but the old man just played dumb, insisting that he never came. I think he must have done something to Abraham! Damn it… I won’t let this go! I’ll find out what he’s up to, and then I’ll get the police to deal with this bloody bastard! They’re supposedly running a hotel, but during the day, they’re hardly seen, always holed up in some sealed-off workshop in the back. I suspect they’re up to no good!”

According to Jacob, he had stayed here ever since but didn’t feel good about the hotel. Not to mention the inconvenience of having no electricity or telephone. The distant lake gave him the creeps and at night, strange noises would come from beneath the floor. He suspected there was something wrong with the hotel from the start.

“Since you’ve been staying here for quite some time, have you seen this man?”

While saying this, Duanmu Huai took out a photograph of James from his pocket. Jacob took the photo and after examining it carefully, nodded.

“Correct, I saw this man the night I checked in, but I didn’t get a chance to greet him. The next morning, I noticed his car was gone, so I assumed he had left. If those two old geezers told you he never stayed here, they’re either idiots or liars. If my friend doesn’t show up in the next couple of days, I’m calling the police!”

“Oh-ho.”
