“Haaa…”

When the girl opened her eyes again, she was met with the familiar ceiling.

“Good morning, Great Judge.”

As the voice sounded, D saw a purple-haired girl with a looped side ponytail standing there, quietly gazing at her.

“Ugh… Good morning, Lumiaire.”

As she spoke, D yawned and then sat up to start changing her clothes.

Sixty years had passed since her conversation with Regina.

To D, those sixty years were not too arduous. In the first twenty years, she continuously led the armies of Night City to expand territories, repel the Electronic Demons, and reclaim cities lost by humans. They then used these cities as bases for further expansion and successfully defeated the ten formidable Electronic Demons known as the Ten Great Disasters. Under D’s leadership, humanity, which was on the brink of extinction, stood up once again, relying on the “PERSONA” Demon Summoning Program to crush the Electronic Demon Army posing a threat to the Human World.

And those Cybernetic Madmen? Well… D had no intention of deploying troops against them. She just let them self-destruct, which, as she had expected, most of them did after just a few years. This was quite normal since Cybernetic Madmen were mentally deranged but still living humans who needed food, water, and maintenance for their prosthetic bodies. However, a mentally unstable, aggressive maniac could obviously not last long without food.

Thus, D’s approach was to initially ignore the cities filled with Cybernetic Madmen, focusing instead on dealing with the Electronic Demons. By the time she turned her attention back to them, those Madmen would have died of thirst, hunger, or infection–after all, they were just madmen, not zombies, and viruses were still effective against them.

So, you see, no need for fighting–just collecting corpses was sufficient.

And then… D died.

Well, at least that’s what the world believed.

The reason was simple. When D led her troops to attack one of the Supreme Disasters among the Ten Great Disasters, the opponent demonstrated incredible strength, forcing D to make a mutual end with him… or so others thought.

Of course, for D, it was not the case; in fact, it was just a performance she had staged.

The reason D staged such a drama was simple. After wiping out the Ten Great Disasters, she realized the damn mastermind–the final boss–had not yet appeared!

You must be kidding, typically in such situations after defeating the Four Heavenly Kings, isn’t it time for the final boss to make a personal appearance?

But this final boss chickened out and deviated from the script?

No other choice then! D, on a whim, staged an act where, before dying, the Supreme Disaster attempted to drag her along, leading to both of their demise. She hoped this play would deceive the final boss, making it careless and come out only to face its own demise.

As for how D knew the final boss was not dead, that was too easy–the mission still hung incomplete!

D thought that once the behind-the-scenes boss knew of her “death,” it would eagerly cause trouble right away, but unexpectedly, that boss played it cool and never showed up even much later.

Thus D, filled with determination, thought, ‘Is hiding all you can do? Let’s see who can outlast.’

And so, another forty years passed.

Of course, there were many changes during these forty years.

Firstly, technology–due to the impacts of Destruction Day, humans’ reliance on the previous network collapsed entirely, but with the emergence of the Demon Summoning Program, a new kind of network based on the electronic world developed. In terms of implants, once bitten, twice shy; a new law had been implemented where implants were strictly forbidden unless for medical conditions.

Previously, this command might not have been obeyed because many had denounced the dangers of implants, yet many still adopted them because of the convenience; in an instant, anyone could become stronger. This was one of the reasons why implants had ultimately become a common household item like guns. If everyone else has a gun and you don’t, aren’t you at a disadvantage? Even if you dislike it, you still need to have one.

But now, this was no longer a concern because those who had relied on implants for strength had been phased out from the stage of history, replaced by another group.

Demon Summoners.

Yes, now Demon Summoners had replaced the likes of Adam Smasher, those superhumans with implants, to become the new pinnacle of the pyramid. After all, for Electronic Demons, normal human attacks were totally ineffective, so those prosthetic bodies were naturally phased out from the weapon array, reverting to their original medicinal value.

Of course, becoming a Demon Summoner was not an easy task. From the beginning, D had designed it–those devices resembling mobile phones were actually special Demon Summoners. Only certified individuals could activate the Demon Summoning Program and enter into a contract to command the Electronic Demons.

Additionally, Electronic Demons themselves had preferences, meaning if an ordinary person wanted to make a contract with them, it depended on whether the Demons were willing. If not, they might just simply capture you.
