Chapter 1182 - Chapter 1182 Chapter 805 Electronic Elf_2

Chapter 1182: Chapter 805: Electronic Elf?_2 Chapter 1182: Chapter 805: Electronic Elf?_2 But those who were lucky enough to escape did not become safe, because soon, another even more terrifying existence appeared.

Electronic Demon.

According to numerous rumors, these Monsters were born from the internet–they transformed into terrifying demons with physical bodies, ravaging between cities and ruins. Human weapons were useless against them; guns and arms could not inflict any damage on these Monsters, which caused many people to die under the Electronic Demon’s claws.

For a moment, it seemed like Humans were heading towards extinction.

But this was not the end.

Night City.

Even in this age filled with Destruction and Despair, this city, governed and protected by Angels, still stood unbroken. Its broadcasts broke through the Electronic Demons’ wails, spreading to every corner of the world. Its voice was like a beacon dispersing the darkness, bringing hope to people everywhere.

Many survivors tried to make their way to Night City, which they heard was the only city that survived the day of Destruction. It was their only hope.

This was especially true for those who originally resided there.

The SUV sped across the Gobi desert, charging through the shattered checkpoints at maximum speed.

“Come on, Panan!”

Lucy sat in the co-pilot seat, staring behind while urgently urging her companion.

“I know, this old car is already on its last legs; stop rushing me!”

Panan, clutching the steering wheel, was also pale-faced, clenching her teeth, with the gas pedal nearly to the floor.

For them, the journey home was extraordinarily difficult; after exposing the issues with the Arasaka Group at the Munich Security Conference, the three set out on the road back to Night City. However, the road was not easy to traverse. First, the Arasaka Group sent assassins for Retaliation, forcing them to flee for their lives. Just as they were trapped with no way out, the day of Destruction arrived, wiping out the assassins surrounding them. Only when they finally left did they realize the whole world had turned into Hell.

After that, they hoped to return to Night City, because in their view, no matter what the rest of the place was like, at least D’s Night City should not have been destroyed in the day of Destruction.

But it wasn’t easy.

Apart from the Cybernetic Madmen running amok in the cities and those bizarre Electronic Demons, the most troublesome issue was the lack of proper transportation. After all, there was an ocean between them and North America. Plus, most vehicles were destroyed on the day of Destruction; they couldn’t possibly swim back to Night City.

Fortunately, Regina had seen much of the world and found them an old jet fighter. After dodging a horde of Cybernetic Madmen and successfully taking off, they crossed the ocean to North America. However, just as they caught sight of the North American coastline, the unfortunate fighter ran out of fuel, forcing them to parachute down. They then found an old beat-up SUV nearby and hit the road again, traversing nearly half the United States and after nearly a year, they finally approached Night City.

“Damn, that Monster is catching up again!”

Regina, sitting in the back, also shouted. The two turned their heads to see, not far behind in the sky, a Monster resembling a Batfish swooping towards them. It shook its body, and piercing ice appeared out of nowhere, shooting down at the three of them.

“Ah!!”

Panan hastily turned the wheel, narrowly dodging the attack. At the same time, Regina raised her sniper rifle and aimed at the creature, pulling the trigger. The bullet flew out with the sound of a shot and hit the Monster. But this only made the Monster’s body shudder slightly, without causing any damage.

In the face of an Electronic Demon, human weapons were of no use. They knew this, but… at least it bought them a second, right?

“Lucy, quickly, have you contacted Night City yet?”

“I’m trying! But this damn broken radio…”

In Lucy’s arms was a World War II era shortwave radio they had found in a museum. Although it was old, it still functioned.

The only problem was… it occasionally malfunctioned.

Right, like now.

“This damn broken thing!”

Listening to the static in the handset, Lucy clenched her teeth in frustration. As a hacker, she was skilled at infiltrating networks, but completely unhandy with fixing these ancient machines. Angry, she instinctively clenched her fist and slammed it down hard on the radio in front of her.

“Squeak–!”

“Hey, don’t break it!”

“It’s already broken!”

As Lucy and Panan argued, suddenly, the radio that could only produce noise sharply tuned in, producing a clear voice. Hearing this, both were stunned; then Lucy grabbed the handset.

“Help, help, is this Night City? We’re being chased by an Electronic Demon and need assistance!”

Lucy’s voice weaved through the jumbled shortwave, feeling as if she was screaming in the bustling and noisy streets, where no matter how loud she shouted, it seemed drowned by the nearby chaos. But quickly, the noisy sounds faded away, and another voice spoke up.
