Chapter 1153 - Chapter 1153 Chapter 791 Wanderer

Chapter 1153: Chapter 791 Wanderer Chapter 1153: Chapter 791 Wanderer A day in Night City always begins with the radio.

“Hello, Night City–! It’s your boy Stanley, and our City of Dreams is starting another long day. I love this city just like you love your mama, who dumped you at the orphanage doorsteps back in the day and now asks you for a smoke when she runs into you on the street–!”

“It’s too early for this; let’s listen to some music instead.”

D immediately changed the station then looked out the window again.

“So, you want me to make a move?”

“Yes, D.”

“Hmm…”

D frowned slightly upon hearing the other voice. The person on the line with her was another middleman from Night City, named Regina Jones. Originally a reporter for News 56, Regina was quite a thinker. She had worked with D a few times before, mainly on research concerning cyber psychosis–well, in terms of research, D had no advice to offer. But D excelled at capturing Cybernetic Madmen; after all, those afflicted with cyber psychosis were individuals beyond ordinary folks, even the NCPD couldn’t handle them.

But to D, even Cybernetic Madmen were no different from ordinary people, easily taken down without so much as breaking a sweat.

That’s why Regina and D had come to an agreement on catching Cybernetic Madmen. Regina hoped that D could capture them alive so that she could figure out a treatment for cyber psychosis while investigating how it came to be in the first place.

The assignment Regina now gave to D also concerned a Cybernetic Madman, only the client was somewhat surprising–a group of Wanderers.

According to Regina, a family of Wanderers called Adakado was currently stationed on the badlands outside Night City. One of their squads had gone missing while out scavenging for supplies, and when the family sent people to search for them, they found the squad had been slaughtered. Evidence at the scene suggested it was the work of a Cybernetic Madman.

Wanderers stick together; naturally, they wouldn’t let the murder of their own go unresolved. The Clan Leader took a group back to the badlands to seek out the Cybernetic Madman, leading to a fierce battle. The Clan Leader suffered severe injuries, and the Cybernetic Madman slipped away.

The Adakado family was short on manpower, and it seemed they had caught the attention of that damned Cybernetic Madman. Thus, they decided to seek a middleman, asking for help to get rid of the trouble.

That’s how they found D.

“Cybernetic Madman… You never told me there were any of those in the badlands.”

“He’s different from the others,” Regina shook her head.

“To tell you the truth, this guy was just a legend on the badlands. I heard about him when I was a reporter–the Ghost of the Badlands attacks travelers who lose their way. Of course, there were several attack incidents on the badlands back then, all attributed to the Ghost, said to come with the storms and kill everything, but we never found evidence.”

“So you found evidence this time?”

“Yes, that’s why I need your help, D. The Ghost of the Badlands has been rumored for over a decade now; it’s really hard to imagine how a Cybernetic Madman could survive in a place like that. So, it’s best if we could capture him alive.”

“The badlands are vast; where am I supposed to start?”

“Don’t worry about that, I’ve found a Wanderer willing to help. She used to be with the Adakado, but left the family to make a living here in Night City. Tracking enemies in the badlands is her forte.”

“Alright, where do we meet up?”

“Martin Street.”

“I’ll be there shortly.”

Afterwards, D contacted Lucy, then went to the place Regina mentioned. In an abandoned parking lot, they found the Wanderer who was supposed to meet with them.

“Are you the mercenary?”

The woman before D, dressed in Wanderer attire with a ponytail and her arms crossed, looked D over with skepticism.

“I asked Regina for the best.”

“D is the best.”

Unperturbed by the woman’s doubt, D didn’t mind, though Lucy raised an eyebrow and stared down the woman, speaking up.

“You look like a greenhorn who’s barely set foot in Night City, not even knowing who D is.”

“What did you say? I paid a good price!”

“Your money’s not even enough for D’s dinner! If it weren’t for–”

“If you guys want to argue, you can do it on the way.”

Seeing the client and Lucy about to argue, D merely snorted and said.

“Are you coming or not? Just say the word.”

“Fine.”

Upon D’s query, the woman withdrew her gaze, scanned D a few more times, then got into the car.

“I’ll trust Regina this one time. I hope she doesn’t screw me over. Let’s go!”

Soon, the group got into the car and headed out of town.

On the road, D listened to the woman’s story–her name was Panan Palmer, and she too was a Wanderer. To be exact, she was one of the Wanderers who had come to Night City with the Adakado family. But now she had parted ways with them, aiming to start a new life in Night City.

Although Panan didn’t say why she left the family, it was clear she still had feelings for them. So, when she heard from a friend in the family about the incident, she immediately sought Regina’s help, and Regina connected her with D.
