A Chemist's Interstellar Saga -
Chapter 86: Two "Monsters"
Chapter 86: Two "Monsters"
In the Sugli Forest...
An angry brown bear roared at Drexel and Dae-jung. His sharp claws and scary teeth kept attacking the two people.
Sometimes, the bear even lifted his huge paw, like a small mountain, and stomped where they stood. The power of his stomp left deep holes in the ground.
Despite this scary attack, Drexel and Dae-jung did not panic. Instead, they worked well together.
Drexel faced the bear and attacked him directly, while Dae-jung, like a sneaky assassin, kept bothering the bear. Sometimes, when he saw a chance, he would stab his knife into the bear’s eyes or the soft skin on his neck.
The rest of the bear’s body was as tough as iron, and they couldn’t hurt him at all.
Outside the battle, Arix noticed what was happening and felt very frustrated.
Arix had thought that the beasts from the interstellar era would be like the ones she had seen in her last life. So, she thought a knife would be enough.
But when she saw these beasts, she realized how hard the training base was on them.
It was like giving the students forks and knives to fight lions and elephants.
It was clear that the training base didn’t care about their lives, or at least Arix thought so.
Arix rubbed her forehead, sighed, and then said to Calista and Femi, "I’ll go help. You two stay here and take care of the injured ones."
Calista and Femi, a chemist and a Psychic Ware user, couldn’t help much in this fight. If they went there, they would just be food for the beast.
Calista knew this too, so she helplessly said to Arix, "Arix, be careful."
Arix nodded. Then she took out her knife and rushed to the battlefield.
She couldn’t fight the bear head-on, so she, like Dae-jung, kept bothering him.
"Arix, why are you here too?" Drexel didn’t want Arix to help.
Arix gave Drexel an annoyed look and said, "What? You think I’ll slow you down? Want to bet who can kill more?"
"Sure, if I win, you have to call me ’respected brother’ every day during the competition," Drexel said as he jumped left and turned to avoid the bear’s claws. He teased Arix while doing so.
Arix raised an eyebrow and, even more annoyed, said, "Fine, if I win, you have to call me ’big sis’ during this whole competition!"
"No problem, deal!" Drexel confidently smiled. Then his strong psychic power flowed out from his body.
That scary psychic power gradually turned into an ice-blue spear in Drexel’s hand.
Psychic power materialization is a very magical skill. It can turn imagined things into reality, sometimes even stronger than the real thing.
But to achieve this, one must have complete control over their psychic power, and it must be at least Star-Class level.
They also need to practice for many years to use materialized weapons smoothly. Otherwise, the materialized objects would shatter like fireworks on contact, having no attack effect at all.
With the materialized icy spear, Drexel stopped avoiding the bear and charged at him.
When he got close, he leaped up, grabbed the spear with both hands, and thrust it down hard.
The fierce bear didn’t even know what happened before the spear pierced his head, freezing him in place.
Drexel grinned, withdrew the spear, and jumped off the bear’s head.
When he landed, the bear fell too, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Drexel’s first kill in this competition was complete, and other people almost wanted to applaud for his amazing show.
Arix couldn’t materialize psychic power yet, but her psychic power was already the strongest weapon. This was something even Drexel couldn’t match.
A powerful wave of psychic power surged from Arix’s body. Then she, like a drill, pierced another bear’s head. The bear let out a miserable cry, then mysteriously fell to the ground, bleeding from his eyes, nose, ears, and mouth, dead.
Psychic power piercing was a direct attack using psychic power. If someone was hit by it, at best, they became an idiot; at worst, like the bear in front of them, they’d suffer brain death.
The only drawback of psychic power piercing was that it consumed a lot of psychic power, unlike materialized weapons, which saved more energy.
Drexel looked at the bear who died miserably and swallowed hard. He thought, "How did my sister’s psychic power become so scary?"
The remaining two bears, seeing their companion’s tragic death, were scared and tried to run back into the forest.
But Arix and Drexel wouldn’t let them escape. They both chased after them.
Arix’s psychic power, like a drill, pierced one bear’s head.
Drexel used all his strength to throw the materialized spear like a javelin. The spear shoot across the trees like a falling star, and at last, it pierced the other bear right on his head..
Finally, they heard two miserable cries, and the two poor bears fell to the ground, lifeless.
"It’s a tie. Looks like we won’t hear Arix call me ’respected brother,’ too bad," Drexel said regretfully.
Arix rolled her eyes and snorted.
And Dae-jung, who had watched the entire process from the side, looked at the siblings like they were monsters. ’These two really deserve to be siblings, each more terrifying than the other’!
Dae-jung had some mental preparation for Drexel’s ferocity. After all, Drexel was the heir of the Kering family, so he was definitely not weak.
But Arix truly surprised him. He had thought Arix was a gentle and obedient girl. However, she only looked gentle and obedient. When she got fierce, she was as terrifying as a wild beast.
Dae-jung looked at the siblings with complicated feelings. Then he turned and walked towards Femi and the others.
After spending time with such monsters, he now preferred to stay with normal people.
However, this unexpected shock gave Dae-jung a mental shadow. He decided that he would never trust people who looked gentle and obedient again, as they might suddenly turn into someone like Arix.
After cleaning up the whole place and collecting the furs, Arix and the others helped their injured classmates find a safe cave.
Then they left them there and headed to the place they were going to.
With their classmates watching sadly, Arix and the others waved. Then, they turned and headed deeper into the forest.
In the afternoon, Arix and the group hunted and killed a few more wild beasts.
When the sky turned red with the sunset, Arix reminded them, "It’s getting late. Let’s continue tomorrow."
Drexel looked at the sky and agreed, "Okay, let’s find a place by the river to rest."
Soon, they found a suitable cave. They set up camp there.
After securing a place to stay, it was time to think about dinner. As for the chef tonight...
Everyone looked at Femi. He was the only one in the group who could cook decent food.
Drexel and Dae-jung were rough guys who would rather eat raw food than cook, because their dishes tasted worse than raw food.
Arix’s food tasted good, but it seemed cursed. Out of three meals, two would definitely cause stomach problems.
The memory of sending Cassian to the hospital was still fresh, so she dared not cook anymore. Even if she did, she wouldn’t let her teammates eat it, for fear they might be eliminated not by beasts, but by her cooking. That would make her famous again in the five military academies.
Calista liked to cook, but her food was so bad that even a captured rabbit refused to eat it and starved to death. The rabbit proved with its life how terrible Calista’s cooking was.
The more they thought about it, the more grateful they were to have Femi. Without him, the next seven days would be unbearable.
After helping prepare the ingredients and setting out the plates, fruits, and water, they all sat neatly on the ground, waiting for Femi to serve them.
Soon, Femi came into the cave with five leaf-wrapped packages. He gave the two smaller ones to Arix and Calista. The remaining three, he shared among the boys.
Arix thanked him and eagerly opened her leaf package. Inside were evenly cut pieces of roasted meat, smelling delicious.
The boys didn’t have it as good. Their leaf packages also had roasted meat, but not cut, so they had to use their knives to cut it themselves.
Arix looked at the delicious roasted meat and swallowed. Then, Arix picked up a piece with chopsticks and happily chewed it.
"Wow! This is delicious! Femi, you’re amazing." Arix was impressed after the first bite and gave Femi a thumbs up.
"Yes, it’s so good!" Calista also gave a thumbs up.
"It’s really good!" Drexel, too, gave a thumbs up.
Dae-jung didn’t say anything, but he nodded to show his approval.
"It even tastes salty. Femi, where did you find salt?" Calista asked, puzzled. In a forest, there shouldn’t be any salt.
Femi blushed from the compliments and smiled shyly. Then he answered, "In the afternoon, I found a saltbush. Its fruits have a salty coating that can replace salt for now."
"Oh, it’s a saltbush!" Calista realized.
"Yes, that’s it," Femi smiled.
"Femi is amazing," the four of them looked admiringly at the person who would be their provider for the next seven days.
After dinner, everyone planned to rest early. Arix and Calista slept together in a cave. The three boys took turns keeping watch by the fire.
