Chapter 60: Disgusting Food
Chapter 60: Disgusting Food
Arix was also struggling with the decision of whether to eat the ten disgusting dishes. If she didn’t, the devilish chefs wouldn’t give her a badge.
Thinking of this, Arix gritted her teeth and was about to go forward when she suddenly remembered Cupid from her psychic world.
Arix’s eyes shifted as she tried calling out to Cupid in her mind. "Cupid, can you hear me?"
Cupid, who was bored and spinning in circles in the psychic world, stopped and looked around. He thought Arix had come to play.
"Arix, where are you? I can’t see you," Cupid said, confused.
"Cupid, I’m not in the psychic world. I wanted to ask if you can eat real food," Arix asked, feeling a bit guilty.
After saying this, Arix felt so ashamed she wanted to hide. She felt like she was tricking a child and was overwhelmed with guilt.
"I can’t eat real things right now. Is someone bothering you, Arix? Do you want me to beat them up for you?" Cupid said fiercely.
"No one is bothering me. It’s just that there’s food here I don’t want to eat," Arix said, distressed because she really couldn’t bring herself to eat the worms.
"If you don’t like it, why eat it?" Cupid asked, tilting his head in confusion.
Arix was about to explain when Sophia, who couldn’t stand it any longer, interrupted, "If you don’t like it, why not let Cupid wrap it in psychic power, and you can spit it out when no one’s around?"
"Oh! That sounds like a god plan. Sophia, you’re brilliant," Arix exclaimed happily.
Then, without hesitation, Arix walked up to the first dish and said to the chef, "Chef, I’m ready to take on the challenge."
The chef was initially confused, but upon hearing Arix’s declaration, he quickly perked up and excitedly said, "Alright!"
He picked up a small plate, grabbed an earthworm with tongs, and passed it to Arix along with a knife and a fork.
Arix’s hands trembled slightly as she took the plate. She mustered all her courage to pick up the wriggling earthworm with the fork and said with a whimper to Cupid, "Cupid, are you ready?"
"Arix, no problem. Go ahead and eat; I promise the earthworm won’t touch you," Cupid encouraged her.
"Okay," Arix replied, then closed her eyes and quickly threw the earthworm into her mouth.
The moment the earthworm entered her mouth, Cupid wrapped it up and stored it temporarily in her stomach. Before Arix could even feel anything, Cupid had already finished the job.
"Cupid, you’re amazing," Arix said with sparkling eyes of joy.
"I know, right?" Cupid blushed with pride as he excitedly rolled around in the psychic world.
"Cupid, there are nine more to go. Can you still do it?" Arix asked nervously, looking at the next nine bowls.
"No problem at all," Cupid replied confidently.
"Alright, let’s get to the next one," Arix said. She walked to the next plate, staring at the bowl of cockroach soup and regretting ever having such clear sights.
Retching slightly, Arix used the same method—wrapping the food with psychic power before placing it in her stomach.
The next eight dishes were: witchetty grubs, maggot puree, roasted scorpion, bat soup, raw fish eyeballs, baby mice, and fried spiders.
The students watching were all shocked, not knowing that Arix was only pretending to eat. They truly thought she had swallowed the food.
"Is Arix really that... I can’t find the word... that perverish?" one student whispered.
"Isn’t she too harsh on herself?" another muttered.
"And she was the first woman to earn a military rank among us, truly terrifying," another commented.
Arix ignored the surrounding voices, fearing that even a second’s pause would ruin everything. After finally dealing with the last fried spider, she clutched her mouth, her face twisted as she handed over the card to the chef who had the badges.
The chef took the card and stamped it with a badge, somewhat moved, "You’re the first to complete the challenge here, congratulations!"
Arix didn’t want to say anything. She took her card and rushed to the bathroom as if her pants were on fire.
Those at the entrance of the cafeteria watched in admiration as Arix left. Soon, a few bold youngsters gathered their courage and stood in front of the first chef.
They finally dared to put the earthworms in their mouths. Whether it was psychological or not, they felt as if the earthworms were still wriggling inside their mouths.
Some people, upon experiencing the daunting challenge of eating disgusting food, broke down mentally. They vomited and then angrily tore off their digital bracelets, choosing to quit the competition.
After Arix had a severe bout of vomiting in the bathroom, she finally came out looking drained, as if a monster had sucked all the vitality out of her.
She leaned against a tree to catch her breath for a while. Then, she shakily picked up her card, and looked at the address for the next badge collection point.
Upon recognizing the location, she had a slight smile on her lips. She was surprised that it was an easy spot to earn a badge.
"Hypnosis Training Center, huh?" Arix murmured as if reminiscing, and then she headed towards the psychic power training ground.
As soon as she arrived at the Hypnosis Training Center, Arix was about to enter when she was stopped by an instructor.
"Sir, can I help you?" Arix looked puzzled at the instructor.
"You’re Arix, right?" the instructor from the Hypnosis Training Center asked.
"Yes..." Arix responded, slightly confused.
"Just hand me your card, and I’ll stamp your badge right away," the instructor said, relieved that he had stopped the correct person.
"Sir, isn’t it a bit improper for us to be so blatantly skipping the process?" Arix said, though her actions contradicted her words as she promptly handed over her card.
The instructor from the Hypnosis Training Center gave her a stiff, insincere smile, and quickly stamped the badge onto her card. As he handed back the card, his expression almost seemed to say, "The badge is given, now you can leave, and please never come back."
This wasn’t an exaggeration on the instructor’s part. Not long ago, Arix had made such a significant impact at the hypnosis room that a saying became popular there: "Hypnotizing others takes time, but hypnotizing Arix takes half of your life."
