Chapter 214: New Training Starts

Arix had a lot on her mind, but they were just vague ideas, so she kept quiet. She knew she wasn’t experienced in these situations and figured it was better to wait and offer her thoughts later, once she had a bit more knowledge under her belt.

Time flew by on the warship, and before they knew it, dusk was setting in.

Arix and her group finally reached the planet with the special training base.

They had to navigate through multiple security checkpoints, but eventually, they made it to the entrance.

As she stepped off the warship with her older brother, Arix couldn’t help but look around the base with curious eyes.

The place resembled the military base they’d seen before, with its towering walls stretching endlessly into the distance. But after a bit of observation, Arix noticed something that set this base apart—it was way more advanced. For one, there was a massive energy shield hovering in the sky above, something she didn’t recall seeing at the military base.

"Kellan, why does the training base have an energy shield? The military base didn’t have one," Arix asked, her curiosity piqued.

Deanna glanced up at the shield, then said, "I think I heard there are level-three beasts around here. Maybe it’s to keep them from getting out, especially the ones that can fly."

Drexel, with a smug flick of his hair, chimed in, "Nah, it’s here to protect us. I mean, everyone here is the future of the Alliance."

Marceau just gave them a gentle look, then stared up at the deep blue shield without saying a word.

Kellan, noticing their guesses, smiled slyly and said, "None of those are right."

"Then what’s it for? Don’t tell me it’s to keep us in," Drexel joked, though he sounded a bit uneasy.

To his shock, Kellan nodded. "Yep, that’s exactly it. The shield’s here to make sure no one escapes."

The moment Kellan said that, Arix and the others froze, the gravity of his words sinking in. The idea that some might try to flee painted a bleak picture of what lay ahead.

Drexel gulped nervously and asked, "Will I still be alive in six months to see you?"

With his usual calm demeanor, Kellan replied, "Don’t worry. I’m one of the assistant instructors for this training, so I won’t let you die—though you might wish you were half way there."

Drexel suddenly wanted to run, but there was nowhere to go.

Seeing the drained look on Drexel’s face, Kellan smiled and led the group to the instructor’s office with a satisfied grin.

After they finished registering and picking up their supplies, they said their goodbyes to Kellan and headed off to find their dormitory.

Arix glanced at her dorm room card, then turned to the others with a curious look. "My dorm is in Building B, 8th floor, room 505. What about you guys?"

"I’m in Building D, 3rd floor, room 402," Deanna replied, sounding a bit down. She had been hoping to share a dorm with Arix, and now her earlier excitement seemed to fizzle out.

Drexel, however, was all smiles. "Oh, nice! I’m in the same dorm as Marceau!" He threw an arm around Marceau, waving both their dorm cards like a victory flag.

Marceau coolly shrugged off Drexel’s arm, but Drexel just put it back, unfazed. Marceau stared at Drexel’s determined arm, sighed, and gave up trying to resist.

Deanna, too caught up in her own disappointment, didn’t notice her brother’s reaction. Instead, Drexel’s bragging got under her skin. With a huff, she puffed up like an angry little pufferfish, then grabbed Arix’s arm and stomped off.

Drexel just laughed, clearly enjoying the moment, and tried to sling his arm around Marceau’s shoulder again. This time, Marceau dodged it smoothly.

"Seriously, what’s your problem? It’s just an arm. You act like I’m harassing you," Drexel pouted, feeling a bit miffed that Marceau wasn’t treating him like a real friend.

Marceau looked him straight in the eye and said, deadpan, "I’m ga..."

Drexel blinked, not quite catching on. "What? Pardon?"

Marceau fixed him with a long, unblinking stare before finally explaining, "My sexual orientation. It’s towards men."

There was a heavy pause as Drexel processed this.

His expression morphed from surprise to wide-eyed shock. He pointed at Marceau, then at himself, before dramatically clutching his chest. "It’s over! It’s over! Uncle Marlone’s family line is doomed!"

Marceau rolled his eyes. ’Is that really the takeaway here?’

Marceau gritted his teeth, half-expecting Drexel to be a bit slow on the uptake, but even he found Drexel’s thought process hard to follow.

With another deep sigh, Marceau decided it was best to ignore him and started heading toward the dorms.

Drexel, snapping out of his theatrics, quickly jogged after him.

Worried that Marceau might be feeling a little insecure, Drexel tried to comfort him with a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Hey, man, it’s no big deal. Liking guys isn’t a problem. I remember at a place in the universe, they’re all men, and they still marry and have kids just fine."

Marceau shot him a sideways glance. "They also have different genders: alpha, beta, and omega."

Drexel frowned, still not fully grasping it. "If they’re all men, what’s the point of splitting them into omega, alpha, and beta?"

Marceau clenched his teeth again, deciding he didn’t have the energy to explain this any further, and quickened his pace.

"Hey, wait up! Where are you going?" Drexel called out, hurrying to catch up again.

Arix and Deanna exchanged reluctant goodbyes at the entrance of Building D.

Arix stood there for a moment, watching as Deanna disappeared inside before turning towards her own dorm.

Building D was just a stone’s throw from Building B, separated by only one building. So, it took Arix just a few minutes to reach Room 505 of Building B.

Before stepping in, she gave three polite knocks on the door. Then, using the shiny new keycard she’d just received, she unlocked the door and walked inside.

As soon as Arix entered, she spotted a young woman, probably around her age, lounging on the couch in the living room, eyes glued to an opticomputer.
