Chapter 210: Proctecting Arix

Just when it seemed like they couldn’t hold on, the military mecha squads went into overdrive. They fought like true fans seeing their idol attacked, fueled by rage and determination.

Their fierce attacks forced the insectoids to split their focus and deal with the squads behind them.

"What’s going on? Why are the military guys acting like they’re on steroids?" Deanna panted, wiping sweat from her forehead, eyes wide with curiosity.

"No matter the reason, this is our chance! Arix, it’s up to you!" Drexel shouted, pouring all his psychic power into his spear. With gritted teeth, he swung it with all his might, creating a hundred-meter-long energy blade that slashed through the last 100 meters to the wormhole.

"Got it!" Arix replied firmly. Star Dust followed right behind the energy blade, moving together like a dawn ray cutting through darkness, casting a bright yellow light that dispelled the gloom and filth.

This moment would be remembered for years as breathtakingly beautiful.

The military mecha squads, witnessing this terrifying strike from afar, were also shocked. If they hadn’t known these were just military students, they might have mistaken them for seasoned commanders. Only such veterans could possess such incredible strength.

But Drexel, having spent all his energy, couldn’t see this. After swinging his spear, he spat out a mouthful of blood and fell unconscious. Without its pilot, Blue Raven began to plummet from the sky.

Deanna quickly caught Drexel while fending off attacking insectoids, casting hopeful glances toward Star Dust following the energy blade.

"Arix, you can do it!"

Arix herself was struggling, gritting her teeth and desperately following the energy blade. In front of her was her brother’s all-out attack, and in her hands, the Ether Crystal, the future and hope of Planet Waste. She couldn’t afford to slow down, fearing the insectoids would overrun her, wasting her brother’s efforts.

Just before the energy blade vanished, Arix mustered all her strength and leaped forward, finally sending the Ether Crystal into the wormhole.

Instantly, the wormhole, which had been sucking everything in, paused for a few seconds like a jammed machine. Then it started to reverse, the opening visibly shrinking.

Arix watched the wormhole gradually close and finally smiled with relief.

They did it! Her brother’s efforts weren’t in vain!

But her joy was short-lived as a bitter smile appeared on her face. She wasn’t sure if she could get back, because she was completely exhausted.

Arix swallowed hard and looked behind her in despair. Countless vicious insectoids were swarming towards her.

"Arix!"

The scream echoed through the air as panic gripped everyone.

People charged towards Arix, looking frantic.

Drexel, the siblings, and the military mecha team were too far to help. They could only watch helplessly as a swarm of insectoids overwhelmed Arix’s mecha.

"Arix!" Deanna cried out, her voice filled with despair.

In moments of sheer desperation, memories can flood in. Deanna’s mind raced through all the times she had shared with Arix.

"Need some help? Looks like someone’s trying to shake you down."

"Don’t judge others until you’ve walked in their shoes. They’re classmates and future comrades at the military academy. Only the weak turn against their own. Are you weak?"

"I’m heading to Planet Waste for a few days. Wanna come along, Deanna?"

"That’s all behind us now. I know Deanna will find happiness in the future."

’Why does Arix have to be the one to sacrifice himself?’ Regret gnawed at Deanna. She shouldn’t have let him get involved in this chaos. She shouldn’t have given him and Drexel the chance to throw themselves into danger for others.

Deanna didn’t want to be a hero. She just wanted her friends alive. "Arix! You can’t die! You can’t!"

Deanna, with her brother, sprinted towards where Arix was buried under the swarm of insectoids. Her eyes were red with fury as she screamed, "Arix!! Come back! Do you hear me? Come back!"

Suddenly, a small furry creature burst from the mass of insects. Though tiny, she immediately caught Deanna’s attention. She froze for a moment, then, filled with joy, handed Drexel to her brother and dashed towards Arix.

"Arix! Over here!" she yelled.

Arix heard her and, with a final burst of energy, ran towards her.

Just as the insectoids were about to catch up, Arix leapt into Deanna’s mecha’s arms.

Exhausted, Arix passed out, feeling safe at last.

Deanna held Arix tightly, not caring about anything else, and started running towards the military.

Seeing his sister carrying Arix, Marceau sighed with relief and followed, carrying Drexel.

With Deanna holding Arix and Marceau carrying Drexel, they both ran desperately towards the military, insectoids hot on their heels.

Though not as strong in combat as Arix, Deanna and Marceau were faster runners. With the support of the military mecha team, they soon found themselves safely surrounded.

Once they were finally safe, Deanna and Marceau let themselves relax.

Crawling out of the mecha cockpit, they collapsed on the ground, breathing heavily.

It took a moment before Deanna and Marceau had the strength to look at what they were holding.

In their arms, they each cradled an unconscious furball. Deanna held Arix, and Marceau held Drexel.

Checking that both were safe, they sighed in relief. They exchanged smiles, feeling both fortunate and relieved.

The two finally succumbed to exhaustion and fell unconscious too.

When Arix came to, she found herself in a hospital room. Propping herself up on her elbows, she looked around.

Drexel and Deanna were still asleep in neighboring beds.

Arix didn’t want to disturb them, so she quietly got up and checked on their conditions, ensuring they were okay before stepping out of the room.

As she expected, two Alliance soldiers stood guard at the door. Upon seeing Arix, they immediately saluted. One of them asked quietly, "Miss Kering, you’re awake. How are you feeling?"

"I’m fine now. How’s the wormhole now? Is everyone on Planet Waste safe now?" Arix asked, her voice filled with hope and worry.

Though they had sealed one wormhole, two more remained. Given Planet Waste’s limited military strength, the cost of stopping the remaining wormholes could be high.

The soldiers exchanged glances. The taller one replied gratefully, "Miss Arix, don’t worry. Aside from the usual casualties, the cost was quite small this time. Thanks to you four sealing one wormhole, we were able to hold out until the Fifth Legion arrived."

"Really? That’s great. Thank you for letting me know." Arix relaxed and smiled, relieved by the news. After a few more pleasantries, she said goodbye and returned to her bed. She played with her opticomputer, waiting for her friends to wake up.

Before her friends stirred, Kellan arrived, looking very upset.
