Chapter 199: Five Billion
Chapter 199: Five Billion
In the living room, Arix and Fleur, watched Thaddeus with bated breath. They were so worried about waking him that even their breathing slowed down.
After a while, noticing Thaddeus still asleep, Fleur gestured toward the dining room, signaling Arix to go have breakfast.
Arix wanted to stay a bit longer, but under her mom’s increasingly stern look, she nodded obediently.
Fleur smiled, satisfied, and waved her off. Arix got up carefully and headed to the dining room.
As soon as she walked in, Evelyn, who was busy making strawberry jam, stopped and asked gently, "Miss, what would you like for breakfast today?"
"Evelyn, just some scrambled eggs, please," Arix said as she sat down at the table.
"Okay," Evelyn replied with a warm smile. She then turned to make the meal. A few minutes later, she placed the eggs and juice in front of Arix.
"Thank you, Evelyn," Arix said and started eating.
Watching Arix eat happily, Evelyn said, "Miss, there’s more in the pot. I’ll get you some more when you’re done."
"No need, Evelyn. This is enough," Arix smiled and declined.
"Alright, take your time," Evelyn said and continued making the jam.
Arix nodded with a smile and opened her opticomputer to check out the mecha master’s livestream. But as soon as the screen lit up, she saw a notification of a 5 billion astrocredit deposit in her account.
"Ahh, ahh, ahh..." Arix choked on her eggs in surprise.
"Miss, are you alright?" Evelyn asked, concerned.
Arix struggled to swallow the egg and quickly shook her head, "I’m fine, I’m fine. The eggs were just so delicious, so I ate too quickly."
"Really? Then eat slower, Miss," Evelyn said, still a bit worried but reassured as Arix seemed okay.
"Okay," Arix replied hurriedly and started to check the source of the funds.
Seeing that the transfer was from Talrin, Arix quickly opened his profile and sent a message.
"Arix: Did you transfer the wrong number?"
After a while, Talrin replied.
"Talrin: No, Arix. The old Psychic Ware Association asked me for Awakened Ware. They felt bad about getting it for free, so they gave me 20 billion astrocredits. Master Bryndel took 10 billion, and the other 10 billion is for us to split."
"Arix: This is too much. I didn’t do anything."
"Talrin: I know what you did, so just accept it. If you keep rejecting me, I’ll get mad."
"Arix: Okay, thank you."
"Talrin: Good."
"Talrin: By the way, Arix, the old Psychic Ware Association thought 20 billion wasn’t enough, so they gave you a pass to study at the Knowledge Tower for a month. You can go check it out when you have time."
"Arix: The Knowledge Tower? What’s that?"
"Talrin: Look it up online. I have to go. Bye."
"Arix: Okay, goodbye."
After saying goodbye, Arix searched the interstellarnet for information about the Knowledge Tower.
Knowledge Tower
Country: The Alliance
Owner: The Psychic Ware Association
Introduction: The Knowledge Tower was built by the Rinn family in the early days of the Alliance. It houses the blueprints of all Psychic Ware from ancient times to the present. Therefore, the Knowledge Tower is considered a sacred place for every Psychic Ware Master, but it is also off-limits to everyone. Anyone who tries to enter without the Psychic Ware Association president’s permission can be killed on the spot by the tower’s guardians.
...
After reading the introduction, Arix swallowed nervously. She hadn’t expected such a great gift from her senior brother and the Psychic Ware Association. Studying in the Knowledge Tower for a month would significantly boost her skills in Psychic Ware.
Arix quickly decided to spend her summer break at the Knowledge Tower. After finishing her meal, she put down her spoon and said to Evelyn, "Evelyn, I’m done eating. Thank you for your help."
"Sure. Just leave the plate on the table. The cleaner robot will take care of it," Evelyn replied with a gentle smile.
Arix thanked her again before leaving the dining room to check on Thaddeus.
In the living room, Thaddeus was still in his psychic world, and Fleur was guarding him.
Arix was surprised to see Matis and Kellan had also returned from the military.
"Grandpa, Kellan," Arix said softly, afraid of disturbing her father.
Kellan smiled warmly and nodded at Arix, saying, "Good morning, Arix."
Matis waved Arix over to sit next to him without speaking.
With a big smile, Arix sat next to Matis and said, "I’m so happy to see you at home."
Matis lovingly patted Arix’s head and said proudly, "I know what you’ve done, Arix. You did very well. I’m so proud of you!"
"Thank you. It’s what I should do," Arix said, blushing as she wrapped her arm around her grandfather’s.
Knowing Arix’s shy nature, Matis stopped praising her, worried she would get too embarrassed. He gently patted her head again and said, "You’re such a good kid. If Drexel were half as good as you, I’d be at ease for the rest of my life."
Arix felt a bit guilty at the praise, knowing that Drexel could be even better behaved than she was at times.
Matis suddenly noticed Drexel was missing.
"Kellan, where’s Drexel?" Matis asked, turning around.
Kellan pointed upstairs to Drexel’s room. "He’s still sleeping."
Matis sighed and rubbed his forehead. "Kellan, why don’t you find a Psychic Incarnation for yourself? That way, I’d worry a lot less."
Kellan looked a bit regretful but relieved. "I’m sorry, Grandpa. You know that’s impossible."
Matis gave him a wistful look and then glanced at Arix. He quickly dismissed the idea; he didn’t want Arix to go through those hardships.
Finally, Matis accepted reality and said to Kellan, "I remember you’re about to become their assistant coach. Just take care of your brother during the special training."
Kellan smiled and nodded, "I will, Grandpa."
Arix, listening nearby, blinked in confusion. "Grandpa, is Kellan the assistant coach for the Alliance national mecha team?"
Matis nodded. "Yes."
Arix’s eyes lit up. She hugged Matis’ arm and shook it playfully. "Grandpa, you’ll be by my side whatever I do, right?"
"Of course," Matis said proudly.
"If I try out for the national team, will you support me?" Arix asked sweetly.
Dizzied by Arix’s charm, Matis didn’t catch the details and just agreed, "Of course. I’ll cheer for you."
"Great! Thank you so much. I love you," Arix exclaimed joyfully.
Matis didn’t realize what he’d agreed to; he was just happy to see Arix happy.
"Dad! Arix wants to join the new mecha competition. Wouldn’t that be too dangerous?" Fleur reminded him, not pleased.
Matis finally understood. He looked at Arix with concern. "Arix, your mom’s right, it’s too dangerous. How about we skip it?"
"Grandpa, that’s not fair. You already agreed. Besides, I’m from a family of soldiers; how can I chicken out because of danger?" Arix argued firmly.
Seeing her determination, Matis couldn’t bear to refuse. He turned to Fleur for help.
Fleur sighed. She stepped in, "Arix, Drexel is going this time. I can’t have both kids take risks. You don’t want to make me sad, right?"
Arix knew Fleur was serious. She didn’t want to make her sad, but she also didn’t want to be just someone who got protected.
"Mom, I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be someone who just avoids danger. Please let me go. I promise I’ll come back safe," Arix said, her eyes filled with determination.
Her words put Fleur in a difficult spot. She couldn’t bear to refuse Arix’s first serious request.
