Chapter 129: A Historical Meeting
After exchanging gifts, Cassian noticed it was getting late and finally addressed the second reason for his visit. "Arix, do you know what being pureblood means?" His face suddenly turned serious.
"I’m not sure, but it seems to come with a high status," Arix replied. Ever since she was discovered to be a pureblood cub, nearly everyone in the Tiger clan had looked at her with respect and trust.
Cassian nodded. "In the Empire, pureblood cubs do have high status, but it also comes with risks. If someone wants to harm the Tiger clan, their first target would be you."
"Me again?" Arix wasn’t surprised by Cassian’s words and seemed quite used to it.
"Others have targeted you too?" Cassian’s eyebrows knitted together, a hidden fury in his eyes.
"Not people, but insectoids. You probably know this, Cassian. I have Supergiant+ psychic power, so I’m particularly attractive to insectoids. There have already been several attempts on my life by them," Arix said with a nonchalant smile.
"When I get stronger, the first thing I’ll do is wipe them out," Cassian said, even more angered by the fact that Arix was also targeted by insectoids.
"Don’t worry, Cassian, I can protect myself," Arix quickly reassured him, seeing how furious he was getting.
Despite her confidence, Cassian still wasn’t convinced. He took off a sapphire necklace from around his neck and placed it in front of Arix. "Arix, drop your blood on this," he said seriously.
"What is this? Are you trying to give me another precious thing?" Arix frowned, resisting.
Given that it was a personal accessory, it was clearly something special. While she was touched by Cassian’s willingness to give her all his best things, she didn’t want him doing something foolish for her sake.
"Relax, it’s not that valuable. It’s just a locator. If you’re ever in danger, I can find you with it," Cassian explained with a mixture of helplessness and affection.
Arix still didn’t fully trust him, feeling like Cassian was trying to pull one over on her. But before she could refuse again, Cassian used his psychic power to cut her finger.
A drop of blood fell onto the sapphire, which glowed faintly as it absorbed the blood, then returned to its original state.
"How could you..." Arix was furious. She pointed at Cassian for a long time but unable to scold him, so she turned away in frustration.
"Arix, don’t be mad. This way, I’ll feel more at ease," Cassian said, gently touching her paw with his fingers, trying to appease her.
Arix didn’t know what to say.
Arix found it impossible to stay mad at Cassian for long. Her frustration dissipated in less than three seconds before she turned to him and asked, "So what exactly is this necklace? Can you tell me now?"
"It’s called the Moon’s Blessing," Cassian replied, his tone casual, as if he were giving away something as ordinary as an apple.
Arix frowned deeply. Although she didn’t know what the Moon’s Blessing was, the name alone suggested it was something extraordinary, not just a simple trinket.
Determined, she pushed the necklace back towards Cassian and looked him straight in the eye. "I don’t want it. Take it back."
Cassian, however, shook his head with a smug yet playful expression. "I can’t. It’s already bound to you by blood. From now on, you’re its only owner."
"You..." Arix lifted her paw, pointing at Cassian, about to protest further.
But Cassian gently picked up the necklace and placed it around her neck, his voice soft and tender. "Arix, I can’t always be with you. Let this necklace guard you for me instead."
Arix’s was touched. She looked down at the sapphire necklace that stood out so brilliantly against her white fur. This gift was too sweet for her to refuse.
Because Arix was a pureblood cub, the two most powerful interstellar nations, the Empire and the Alliance, convened a special international meeting.
Representing the Empire were Alpha Leonidas, Luna Amethyst, the Tiger clan leader, and four clan elders. The Alliance was represented by President Zeta, Kering family head Matis, the couple Thaddeus and Fleur, and three Kering family elders.
The meeting kicked off with the Empire presenting a document to the Alliance. It revealed that Arix had been tested on an opticomputer and confirmed to have a level seven blood purity.
The Alliance members reviewed the data and exchanged meaningful glances, acknowledging that Arix was indeed a rare gem who would excel anywhere.
President Zeta felt the weight of the situation the most. After closing the opticomputer file on the holographic screen, he faced the Empire representatives displayed on another screen.
"I’m sorry, but I can’t agree to your request," Zeta stated firmly, leaving no room for debate.
The Empire wanted Arix to stay in the Tiger clan as their holy child, symbolizing pureblood status within the clan, second only to the clan leader.
In return, they offered ten Supergiant-Class mechas and the Aqualis Region, which included 56 planets: ten rich in resources, twelve habitable, and thirty-four undeveloped. The offer was undeniably generous.
Had the request involved someone else, like even his own son Elio, Zeta might have agreed without hesitation. But Arix, who invented the psychic power healing potion and was the Alliance’s sole Supergiant+ psychic power individual, was a different story.
Zeta’s refusal came naturally, driven by his deep commitment to the Alliance, even though it pained him.
Arix was the Alliance’s future hope. While the Empire’s offer was tempting, nurturing their own talent promised a more prosperous future for the Alliance. Properly cared for, Arix could bring unparalleled benefits, far surpassing the Empire’s proposal.
Thus, the Empire’s request had to be declined. Despite the heartache of turning down such an appealing offer, Zeta’s face remained steadfast, showing no signs of compromise.
The Empire was taken aback by the Alliance’s rejection. Krylak, not willing to give up, turned to Matis and asked, "Does Admiral Kering agree with the President?"
Matis nodded firmly, without hesitation.
Matis thought Krylak’s question was absurd. There was no way he’d trade his precious granddaughter, not even for the entire Empire.
However, since Krylak was part of his daughter-in-law’s family, Matis held back. If it had been anyone else, he wouldn’t have hesitated to scold them. The nerve of even thinking about taking his granddaughter!
Realizing the Alliance’s firm stance, Krylak looked disappointed but quickly changed tactics. He signaled to the four family elders, who nodded in agreement.
With their backing, Krylak turned to Fleur, wearing a sorrowful expression.
"Cousin Fleur, you should understand the importance of a holy child for a clan within the Empire. I don’t ask for Arix to become a permanent member of our clan; I only hope Arix can represent our clan as the holy child, while also being part of the Alliance’s Kering family. This is my humble request."
Krylak’s plea was as humble as possible, and the elders joined in to express their grievances.
"Our clan hasn’t had a pureblood cub in a hundred years. We’ve faced countless discriminations, and it breaks my heart," Faelan lamented, looking like an ancient figure watching his nation fall apart. His face was full of endless pain and sorrow.
"Yes, we elders don’t care about those discriminations, but the young ones in our clan are innocent," Rowtag added.
"Fleur, we are all old and will soon be dead. This is our last wish before we die. Can’t you understand?" Bran said.
Kylian, meanwhile, was at a loss. Everyone else had delivered their emotional performances so well that there was nothing left for him to say.
However, he knew that if he didn’t put on some sort of act, he’d face the others’ displeasure later.
Resolving himself, Kylian began to tear up, presenting the image of an elderly man shedding tears.
The Alliance members watched the Empire’s elders with deadpan expressions. To be honest, they didn’t even feel a thing. Little did they expect that one among them was from the Tiger clan.
Fleur, overwhelmed with empathy, started crying. Though she grew up in the Alliance, the Tiger clan was her home, her roots.
Seeing his wife in tears, Thaddeus felt his heart ache and immediately looked to his father for help.
Matis: ..... ’This spineless son of mine! Your wife hasn’t even spoken yet, and you’re already panicking!’
