Chapter 100: Pontifex of the Future

The three of them chatted for a bit, exchanging greetings until they were about to end the video call.

Fleur gave a final reminder, "Arix, I asked our people, and the blessing ceremony is next month. You should stay in the Empire and have fun with Sunak this month. I’ve already taken care of your leave from the military school. Come back to class when your therian transformation is over."

"Okay, I got it. Bye, Mom," Arix said obediently, nodding her little head and giving a small howl.

After Fleur ended the call with a smile, Sunak came out of the bathroom. He was still damp, and he casually asked, "Were you talking to your mom?"

"Yeah, she said some ceremony is next month, and she was afraid I’ll have to be in your care this month," Arix explained with a small howl.

"She’s always so considerate. I love kids and we’re gonna have so much fun." Sunak said nonchalantly as he walked into the drying box. He lay down on the drying chair for a few minutes and came out completely dry.

Arix, thinking about her own physical power accident, kept quiet.

"Come on, I’ll take you to meet our admiral. We should report your presence to him, especially given your special status," Sunak said, picking Arix up and carrying her toward the admiral’s meeting room.

’Admiral?’ Arix remembered that people at this rank were usually old grandpa types. The Empire’s admiral was probably a respected elder therian as well.

"By the way, Arix, when you meet the admiral, don’t do anything disrespectful. If you annoy him, he might not let you stay on the mothership," Sunak warned.

"Hmph, no way," Arix huffed arrogantly. All the elders at home adored her because she was polite and talented. All the older loved her!

Arix’s assumption was just partly right; when she actually met the admiral, she quietly took back her words.

The person in front of her, with snow-white hair and an icy, ethereal demeanor, was the last person Arix would consider as an admiral before.

Arix turned her head to look at Sunak, incredulously howling, "Is he really the admiral??"

Sunak, not knowing why Arix was asking this, nodded affirmatively.

Once she was sure there was no mistake, Arix turned back, carefully observing the Empire’s admiral.

He looked to be around just twenty years old, with chiseled features and an exceptionally handsome face. His slightly prominent brow bone framed a pair of ice-blue eyes colder than millennia-old glacier, and his thin lips added to his cold demeanor. His entire look exuded a ’keep away’ vibe.

He was cold, but really good-looking.

Arix’s heart was pounding wildly. Since arriving in the interstellar era, this was the second exceptionally handsome male she had encountered.

The first one she met was Cassian, and the other one was the Empire’s admiral in front of her.

If Cassian was like the god of the sun—noble, handsome, and gentle—then the admiral before her was like the moon in the deep night. He was so graceful that any closer look at him felt like a desecration. Even one extra glance seemed disrespectful.

Sunak had no idea that Arix was so mesmerized that she was almost drooling. He respectfully addressed the admiral, "Sir, this is my niece Arix. She is the granddaughter of the Fifth Legion admiral from the Alliance. She’s a special kid, so I brought her to report to you."

Hearing she was the Fifth Legion admiral’s granddaughter, Scion’s emotionless eyes, as cold and deep as a frozen pond, finally looked at the little one before him. His gaze softened a bit when he saw that Arix was just a cub. "No problem, just take good care of her."

"Yes, thank you, sir. I’ll take my leave now." Sunak placed his right hand on his chest in salute. Then he turned and carried Arix out of the meeting room.

On the way back to the resting quarters, Arix looked up and asked, "Sunak, the Empire’s admiral is so young. And why does he seem so distant? Did he have a rough childhood?"

As Arix asked, her mind had already conjured up dozens of dramatic scenarios, mostly involving childhood trauma or later life events, with family harm being the most likely cause.

"Give me a break," Sunak rolled his eyes. "The admiral’s status in the clan is second only to the Pontifex. Even the clan leader treats him with utmost respect. As for his personality, most pontifexs are like that."

"Pontifex? But isn’t he the admiral?" Arix asked, her eyes widening in surprise.

"He was, well, sort of. The admirals were raised to be the Pontifexs. There’s currently no one qualified to lead the Tiger Legion, so he’s temporarily acting as admiral. When the Pontifex steps down or a suitable therian is found to replace the admiral, the current admiral will return to the Moon Goddess Temple as the Pontifex’s successor," Sunak explained in rare detail.

"Okay," Arix’s heart, which had been racing like a deer, suddenly came to a halt.

To Arix, a pontifex was akin to a pastor from her past life. She never imagined someone as hot as the admiral would choose such a restrictive path.

Sunak noticed the disappointed little tiger in his arms. He raised an eyebrow with a light, knowing smile.

The admiral was perfect in many ways, but that face of his was a real troublemaker. It was better to give Arix a heads-up for peace of mind.

Having been around the admiral for a long time, Sunak was well aware of how attractive the admiral was to females, from toothless old ladies to toothless toddlers. No one could resist the admiral’s charm.

Admiral Scion was the kind of man who could make even the most confident playboy feel inadequate and teary-eyed. However, he had one major flaw: his future role as the Pontifex.

Any woman who liked the admiral would instantly give up once she learned he was destined to become the Pontifex. This tactic had never failed Sunak. No woman would want to fall for a man who was fated to devote his life to the Moon Goddess.

Arix had no idea what Sunak was thinking. After sulking for a bit, she put the matter out of her mind. Right now, her only focus was on food. She had only nibbled on some vegetables and an apple since morning, and her stomach was practically empty.
