i can kinda see why he didn't run away immediately since if he did he wouldn't have been able to kill Peltz since he seems like he'd be a pain to deal with well i guess that plan failed

i guess it makes sense 

i mean since he is from a very prominent family there would be lots of servants ("eyes") on him 

i'm guessing he didn't try to run away before the knights arrived so he could experience a fight firsthand so he doesn't get cold feet when he is in danger
