The early chapters have a LOT of worldbuilding and background info, most of it doesn't come into play for a while. I find it helpful to take notes of some stuff in a notebook or something so you can reference it in the future.

Here we learn why Klein only felt a few minutes pass when he was in Stanton's house despite 18 minutes having passed: it was because the Desire Apostle amplified his feelings of vigilance and wariness and made him lose track of time.
Additionally, since Stanton is a believer in the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, and is extensively knowledgable about beyonders, we can deduce that he is most likely on the Reader sequence pathway.
