There were multiple times he had to run away mid fights unlike Gu Changge who always wins and if you read CoI then you must know that he can never win against CW and will ultimately die for sure, FY on the other hand sure faces difficulties like in refinement and stuff but he always wins at the end of the day, had the novel continued he'd have become Rank 10 and achieved Eternal Life...

I read the I am the fated villain as they said there was an evil MC but the biggest problem is he gets a breeze through in whatever he tries to get as opposed to faced with adversities and actually threatening opponents.
And this was part of the reason I didn't like klein as much as fang yuan, since his conflicts both external and internal are not as high stakes as ,say, fang yuan vs heavenly court in the first timeline(fang yuan getting ambushed by zi wei and then li huang in the river of time got me on my toes. I never felt anything like that for klein)
