For new American web novels, especially fantasy ones, it's because the authors are usually fans of Japanese ligthnovels and know very well how much the public hates poorly made harems, as for Chinese novels, you simply haven't read enough of them lol
I skipped a bunch of chapters and somehow the future princess wants mc to have a harem of girls who were supposed to end up with the hero as revenge.... Even though the princess is a yandere..... bruh
