Well I watched as a kid and it's still my favorite anime so i don't really get ur point I feel like it's the same
HxH is actually an adult story, presented from the POV of naive children.
So, it's only a shonen if a kid watches it.
All they see is the cool powers. If an adult watches it, we see trauma, abuse and a f*cked up world.
Well it's considered one of the best light novels out there I haven't read it yet tho might read it after lotm
